My pick for Mr. Basketball is Carson Williams. IMO he is the most valuable and complete HS player in KY. He has carried them to a 27-3 record with a beefed up schedule for a Class "A" team with wins over South Laurel, Henry Clay, Taylor County, North Laurel, South Oldham, and Oldham County.

 

On a side note, in all the games I've seen him play no one has played with more effort. I never saw him take plays off or play lazy defense. He is a work horse who plays the game the right way. It's never about him, he plays for his team first. That's who I want to represent KY as our Mr. Basketball.

I've been told the Taylor Co. statkeepers have been getting a bit creative lately during this push for Mr. Basketball.

I heard the same. How does a player finish with 10 or 11 steals when the opposing team only has 9 total turnovers? Interesting.

Carson Williams and not a close second. Has put a smalltown team on his back and made it very relevant in All A, and soon to be Sweet Sixteen. No local AP media coverage to hype his contribution and reputation. Just a once in a lifetime local player that represents what Mr. Ky Basketball means to most of us oldtimers.

 

Agree with all you said. The press in Louisville and Lexington have virtually ignored this young man, but he is a great player. I also like Faulkner and Goodin, but I believe Williams has earned it. As a supporter of the three Oldham County schools, I have seen enough to know he is the best in Kentucky this year.

My favorites are Matt Wilson and Ben Weyer. Carson Williams will most likely receive it.

The void of media coverage in NKy (not a single AP media vote) puts both Wilson and Weyer at distinct publicity disadvantage. Both schools schedules are predominantly made up of NKy schools further restricting exposure to statewide exposure to voting coaches. Wilson has gone to Rupp two consecutive years, but memory doesn't serve me well as to how long the Camels stuck around and how well he played. Weyer has three consecutive All A championships prior to a 4th trip this year when he was less than 100% (although he played terrific). Just don't see these GREAT players pulling many statewide votes.

Sad to say, I agree with you. These two young men are great players and wonderful young people who are very centered.

Maybe he stole the ball from his own team a few times. Seems pretty fishy.

It's a three-horse race: Williams, Faulkner, Goodin. I am sure Wilson is a good player, but the other three are on another level this season.

I looked up Campbell County's record, and they have lost 12 games. Would be hard to win Mr. Basketball with 12 losses in the regular season. I think this situation will also hurt Faulkner, as Caverna has lost 10 games. But Faulkner is a fantastic player who has excelled in a very tough region. I am only vaguely familiar with the 10th Region where Campbell County plays.

The kid is a rebounding monster. They play a tough schedule and have loss some close games but this kid is the real deal. Ben Weyer would be a great choice as well. I've only had a chance to watch mostly tenth and ninth region basketball so I'm not sure about the rest of the state.

I think that he deserves Mr. Basketnall, however he is not the best player in the sate.
