8th Region Semi-Final Preview

Your assessments are dead on and should be two great games with contrasting styles in each game. South hit 14 3's in the first meeting with Collins, but have proven they can win without hitting 3's. They only hit 7 against Owen and still scored 81 points. In the OC/Anderson game, I look forward to seeing the athleticism of Johnson and Penny as they battle around the rim. Four excellent coaches on the sidelines doing their chess matches. Should be a great night of basketball Monday. -

The most critical thing is if the official score book is correct and that is why each team has a book keeper; to catch these mistakes. Running the scoreboard can be very difficult depending on the type of scoreboard they have. Most of the time these are volunteers from the host school and it can get pretty crazy and frantic especially late in games and is easy to hit the score for the wrong side. Then you have fans yelling, coaches hollering. I've been doing it for years and it never gets easier. -
KABC All star game

I believe the game is april 16th. Don't think any Sweet 16 obligations will be an issue. -
I so hate how these threads that start talking about a fantastic high school basketball game turn into personal agenda discussions about region wars and player evaluations. JUST STOP!! I know there many intelligent people on this, but it sounds like 2nd graders on the playground saying "my dad can beat up your dad" talk. I'd love to discuss the multiple defenses South used to confuse Owen county. Or that Owen missing free throws because they were tired, caused by South spreading the floor and having Carson chasing around #24 all over the floor to defend the 3. Great coaching on both sides and pure energy exerted by both teams to provide such an entertaining game.

Owne made 3-15. Unfortunately the 3rd one came on a broken play with 18 seconds left.

Their first meeting went right down to the last 20 seconds, tied. South made 3's for the game but 1 3 the entire 4th quarter and was right there at the end. owen played an excellent game with carson getting 40. I don't think owen can play much better, but i think south can play and has played better. 1 or 2 extra shots, two less 2nd chance possessions and south wins that game. Here's the deal, south was going to have to beat owen anyway, so might as well do it the first round. It was a great game in an outstanding atmosphere the first time, i expect even better this time around.

Simon Kenton/Walton Verona Predictions
big ten hoops replied to uk#1fan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I've seen both teams and sk has perplexed me all season. Not sure why thy lose rhe games they have. They have great size, decent shooters and a solid coach, but something hasn't clicked this year. I think these are pretty evenly matched teams. Walton plays on alot of emotion. If they get down early, might not recover. I'm going with sk by 6. -
This is a tough one. Which Anderson team shows up; the that played flawless in hammering south oldham last month or the one that lost to gallatin? Both teams have excellent coaches in Drury and Gaither. I think Collins is healthy and has been getting better each week since clarkson's return. I think Collins in a tight game, 55-52.

Everytime OC seemed to seize control, North would make a run. Had it within 2 points with 6:08 to go in 4th and missed a rebound put back. Then the killer, a bogus intentional foul call changed the entire complexion of the game. Hated to see it. Should be a great district final on friday. Get there early!

Oldham County vs North Oldham

South plays 9-10 in their rotation and it doesn't seem to affecct them with letdowns. If OC gets by north, the rematch with South should be a dandy. -
Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
big ten hoops replied to BulldogPride's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I thought this thread was about who's MrBasketball for this year? It has gone into who is better d1 prospect. Where they go to school should not be a point of consideration. I've watched all the players mentioned here and are all excellent and would be a fine choice. I have to admit that having a son play in region 8 I've watched Carson Williams play many more games so i may have a slight bias, but I think he is the Mr Basketball for KY this year. What he does and has done for his team is impressive. Other than parents and coaches, none of us know a kids work effort. All i know is they all have had to work hard to achieve the success they have had. In the end it won't make a difference to any of them as they all have their college plans on place. Best of luck to them all. -
Oldham County vs North Oldham
big ten hoops replied to big ten hoops's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I agree mostly, but i think margin will be closer. I don't think north has enough weapons, but does seem like OC has letdowns throughout their games. North will grind and scrap to keep it close. Henry and wheeler have to step up big to pull off the upset. -
Which is the better game?
big ten hoops replied to Indiana Patrick's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Don't think you can go wrong with either game. I love St. X guard connor mckim going up against alex cook of male. But tyler sharpe at bullit east is outstanding. You may jist have to flip a coin. -

South Oldham 79 Walton-Verona 55
big ten hoops replied to OldhamOldie's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
South took control in 2nd half with suffocating defense to dominate the bearcats. Grant Williams led with 21 and Trent Bouvet with 13 send South to it's 23rd victory. -
This is the easiest choice in the entire state. It's not even up for debate. He's a first class player and I look forward to seeing him play against South Oldham next week.

Updated Maher Rankings 1/17
big ten hoops replied to SoccerMath's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
South Oldham is ranked behind Holy Cross Cov and beat them by 10. In the Lit, South beat Oldham County and yet is behind them also. This happens with all polls, which are for the fans to talk and gripe about. These polls have not bearing on getting to the regional and then they play on the court will decide the best teams. -

South has tough stretch in 4 of next 6. Collins on monday, at SK on friday, Ryle then at anderson. The dragons seem to be clicking on all cylinders. Was in total control of oc for most of that game
