November 16, 201510 yr Understand why change was made and wish nothing but best for Drew; however, I do hurt for Pat and his family. I know listening to the criticism has been difficult for me, so I can't imagine how hard it has been on him and his family. One thing I am confident of, you won't find too many young men better than Pat.
November 16, 201510 yr I really do hope Drew Barker does well, I want UK football to suceed so bad. I hate if for Pat Towles who is a stand up guy but just doesn't seem to have the moxy to play in the SEC. I hope for DB's sake he can get rid of the ball quickly and make the appropriate reads, if not there isn't anywhere else to turn besides the same old UK football.
November 16, 201510 yr I agree with the post a bit earlier. Pat was benched in the Vandy game. That was the time for Drew to take over. He was given just a few series and then back comes Pat. Stoops or Dawson should have never gone back to Pat on Saturday. Showed a lack of confidence in Barker. If it was time for a change, it was time for a change. Now with a cupcake opponent on deck its time for Drew to start. I'm glad these coaches can recruit, because they seem to lack in the day to day, game to game handling of a program. I only followed UK football because of Pat. I'll follow whichever school he attends next year as a grad student transfer.
November 16, 201510 yr Author I'll admit I've known Drew since he was pretty young, 8 or 9, so I'm rooting for him. I like Towles and his attitude but we need to try something else, even if it doesn't work. The offensive woes haven't all been his fault of course, but he's had the chance to play through a lot of mistakes. I hope Drew gets the same chance, whether he gets it done or not.
November 17, 201510 yr Here is a question for the people that believe it's time for a qb change. If Towles played for uk's opponents this year how good would he look?
November 17, 201510 yr I agree! I have no interest to watch UK the rest of the year. Not exactly what I would expect from a #1 UK fan, but, whatever.
November 17, 201510 yr How did Towles go from being one of the top SEC QBs statistically last year, to one of the bottom half this year? Is it the learning of the new system, struggling of the OL, dropped passes, lack of confidence, or all of the above?
November 17, 201510 yr That's a little over the top, my man. Not really. We all got our favorites for our own reasons...well, I guess it's over the top if you're a Barker fan, but I'm not. I'm even less of a fan of current staff, I think there are problems within. Given the level of discord on these threads about Towles/Barker/Dawson/Stoops....I'm willing to bet nothing changes with the swap of a QB, but you have to admit, Barker has been hailed as the panacea for this team, so it's on his shoulders this weekend. Let's see what he's got.
November 17, 201510 yr One question. How much time does Barker and Towles spend in the film room? They always said that Couch was a student of the game spending hours and hours reviewing film. Lorenzon was a student of the game. Woodson became a good qb when he realized he had to study the game. These two QBs are not in high school anymore. Are they students of the game?

I think he's suffered from a ton of drops by his receivers and some indecision on his part. If you're not sure who is going to catch the ball, it takes a little longer to process, I guess. No doubting his physical skills though. As for a transfer, come on down to Richmond. He'd be a savior to EKU fans who would love to have a QB with his skills.

November 17, 201510 yr Going to UK probably cost Pat a few million dollars. He can still transfer and play right away next year if he is on track to graduate this year. I really think some big schools would be interested in him. He has the physical talent and has experience, so he will be attractive to some teams next year who have talent but need a qb for next season. Ukmustang wouldn't like this. However I think Michigan would be a great fit for him. Jim Harbugh does a great job with qbs and i think Towles would play to his talent level under him. I don't know if Harbaugh would want to go the grad transfer route again because I think that is how they got their current qb I think.
November 17, 201510 yr I wonder how different Pat's career would have been if he would have went to Louisville. I could be way off base, but I seem to remember Charlie offering him a scholarship but Towles being too big of a UK fan for the Cards to have any chance to sway his choice. Even if that wasn't the case, as a Cards fan I feel like he would have been a fantastic option post-Teddy and could have thrived under Petrino in a Brohm-esque way. I feel bad for the kid because I've never heard a bad word about him yet since high school he has been stuck with either bad coaches, turnover among coordinators, a weak supporting cast relative to competition, and now from the outside seemingly a loss of confidence.

Why do you assume they didnt study film in high school?
