Drew Barker to get first start vs. Charlotte

I think these 2 are so similar that if you expect anything that much better than what Towles would give you, then I think you are fooling yourself. I don't think either could be successful in this system and with this group of supporting cast. The offensive line is shaky at best, the receivers have hands of stone and drop their heads at the first sign of trouble and boom never seems to be all there if you ask me. He'll have one big run a game, but seems like he doesn't even care the rest of the time. This team doesn't have a QB problem, this team has an attitude problem. Attitude reflects leadership.

Disagree on them being very similar. They are similar in a way that I believe they are both talented QB's, but have different skill sets that make them good. Towles is a big QB with a big arm that throws a very good deep ball, throws the deep out well, and can scramble when he needs too. Barker strengths are his ability to make quicker decisions, which means the ball comes out faster and is more accurate on the short to intermediate routes. Which with UK's line being bad, that is something that could help him run the offense better. Towles has the experience, but as Barker gets game experience he should be better for this offense.

Look at it this way the Bengals offensive line right now is ranked as one of the best pass protectors in the NFL. Do you honestly believe that they are one of the best at pass blocking? Or do they benefit from and look better because of having a QB with the second quickest release time in the NFL? If you put a QB with a slower release time, do they still look as good? Probably not. People probably would talk about how bad the line is if they had a QB with a slower release time. Towles is very talented but he does have a slow release. So having a QB who makes quicker decisions and has a quicker release could make things look better and also help the line.

Does this all mean UK will do better? Who knows because Barker doesn't have the experience and no one truly knows how he will do until he gets more chances to do so.

Barker looked great on his first drive...looked a lot like Towles on his first drive at UK a few years ago.

Since Drew was about a sophomore in high school I've mentioned how good Pat has been to him. They met at awards banquet and Pat offered to help him with any recruiting process help he needed. He then offered to work with him on the QB position. He was positive when Drew committed.

So this is the LEAST shocking thing to me:

Patrick Towles ‏@patty_ice14 47m47 minutes ago

Can't wait to see @D_Barker7 ball out on Saturday! I'm behind you 100%! #ALLIN

That is awesome! Towles is a great leader and a great teammate. Which is why it kind of sucks having two KY boys that I want to see do well on the same team. I mentioned this is another thread. However I would love to see Towles try the graduate school transfer thing next year. I think some big schools would be interested in him and depending where he is at, I think he could do well and possibly still have a chance at the NFL. This way we could see both Towles and Barker play and hopefully do well for both teams.

This made me chuckle.

Correct. TD pass for both. Good memory.

Well now we can finally see if it is truly Towles that is bad or if it's the entire offense...

Sorry but that's not a fair assessment IMO. Against Charlotte? I'm thinking Barker get 300 yards passing and 3 TD's. Oline will look awesome. Elam will be a Star on D. This is a lopsided win for UK. It's Charlotte for goodness sake.

IMO, I think one reason they are giving to Barker is to see if he can do all the above. If not, then Stoops and company better get busy finding a QB for the future. They can sell immediate playing time to some 18 year old and parents. Oh, and then the fans will be screaming again because another QB wasted because of inept play by line and play calling by OC.

Just sayin!

Talk about taking a shot? Don't go there.

Keeping it real and the honest truth!

So you think this one game will show if Barker have a successful career or not and rather or not if they need to find a new one?

Neither but I realize this is a very painful day for you.

Not at all. It gives false hope. The QB position is not the problem my friend! IMO, Barker and Towles are probably on the same level. Either would perform well this weekend. The previous games up to this point, you can point the finger at a half dozen areas. But you can't replace the whole Oline,Dline,receivers,dbs.....now can you?

This is the SECOND year in a row where the team, all units, have appeared to give up on the season. Gang tackling is non-existent, there is no separation from receivers, the LT has been little better than a speed bump on the way to the QB. It is just bad.

I don't think any unit has "given up."

UK put up 352 yards off offense. I think that's the 3rd most VU has given up. WKU , for example, put up 246 total. Houston put up 371. UGA put up 422.

D didn't give up.

I didn't see Vandy. I saw UGA and Miss St.

I'd say it's more of a case of bad execution and being overmatched and some "lack of proper effort."
