November 17, 201510 yr One question. How much time does Barker and Towles spend in the film room? They always said that Couch was a student of the game spending hours and hours reviewing film. Lorenzon was a student of the game. Woodson became a good qb when he realized he had to study the game. These two QBs are not in high school anymore. Are they students of the game? A lot of things have chance since Couch was in high school. High School players these days have high school films at their finger tips, where they can watch anytime of the day with hudl. Now players knowing how to watch film correctly in high school is a whole other story. That is something you have to show them, and the ones who truly are dedicated will take the time even in high school to watch film and really study.
November 17, 201510 yr Patrick Towles, QB, Redshirt Junior (6-5, 240, 4.88) Towles signed with UK with considerable fanfare after guiding Highlands High School to three consecutive state championships and earning the Paul Hornung Award as Kentucky's prep Player of the Year. He saw limited action as a true freshman (19 of 40 for 233 yards and a touchdown in five games) before redshirting in 2013 but emerged as the starter in 2014, starting all 12 games and completing 57.3 percent of his passes for 2,718 yards and 14 touchdowns against nine interceptions. Towles and the Wildcats struggled down the stretch last season, however, dropping their final six games with the quarterback throwing five interceptions (against just two touchdowns) in particularly ugly losses to Missouri, Georgia, Tennessee and Louisville. Towles offers some intriguing tools for the next level but must improve in his second season as the starter just to keep his job. Stoops named Towles the starter again this year after a spirited competition in camp with redshirt freshman Drew Barker. Towles looks the part of an NFL quarterback with prototypical height. (USATSI) In terms of size and arm talent, Towles reminds me of a young Sean Mannion, the reigning Pac-12 career passing champion and a 2015 third round selection of the St. Louis Rams. Like the 6-foot-6, 230-pound Mannion, Towles looks the part of an NFL quarterback with prototypical height, broad shoulders and evenly distributed muscle mass. Also like Mannion, Towles' best success comes on bucket throws to the outside, demonstrating the touch, trajectory and ball placement to defeat press coverage on intermediate and deep fade routes and occasional deep posts. Also like Mannion, however, Towles sprays the ball when he doesn't have the leg room to step into throws, raising concerns about arm strength and true accuracy. Both players possess an elongated delivery that give defenders an extra split second warning of where the ball will be headed. One important distinction between Towles and Mannion, however is pure athleticism. Despite Towles' size, he is surprisingly athletic, rushing for 305 yards and six touchdowns a year ago. Some of this production is scheme related as the Wildcats often call read-option plays. Also, Towles is very willing to leave the pocket when he senses it collapsing to get what he can. He's faster and more agile than he looks but must do a better job of keeping his eyes downfield to exhaust passing opportunities rather than simply scrambling. It is scouts' hope that improvement in this area (and several others) will come with more experience. At this point, Towles is one to watch from an NFL perspective. He does offer some intriguing tools and in just now entering his redshirt junior campaign, Towles has the time to develop
November 17, 201510 yr Why do you assume they didnt study film in high school? Didn't say they did not study in high school. Simple question was asked, How much time do they spend in the film room(in college)?

November 17, 201510 yr But like I said, How much time do they spend in the film room? Not sure, but now a days you can watch all the film you want on your phone or any other device. If nothing else that provides more opportunity to study. I hope that they are taking advantage of it.
November 17, 201510 yr Not really. We all got our favorites for our own reasons...well, I guess it's over the top if you're a Barker fan, but I'm not. I'm even less of a fan of current staff, I think there are problems within. Given the level of discord on these threads about Towles/Barker/Dawson/Stoops....I'm willing to bet nothing changes with the swap of a QB, but you have to admit, Barker has been hailed as the panacea for this team, so it's on his shoulders this weekend. Let's see what he's got. Did you check out who UK is playing???? Charlotte is 2-8 , with wins over Ga State and Presbyterian College. Charlotte is 0-7 in Conference USA and have an 8 game losing streak. UK is a 24 point favorite. That should tell you all you need to know.

November 17, 201510 yr Well now we can finally see if it is truly Towles that is bad or if it's the entire offense... Not going to find anything out this game. Charlotte is potentially the worst team in the FBS.
November 18, 201510 yr But like I said' date=' How much time do they spend in the film room?[/quote'] 10 to 12 hours watching film
November 18, 201510 yr Interesting. A month ago it was will Drew Barker transfer. Now it is where will Towles transfer to. Stoops should be gone. Fire Shannon Dawson. UK's best recruiting classes are Big 10 trash. Man I tell you, it's a good thing most of us predicted UK to win 5-7 games. Otherwise there might be problems. There are sure some lofty expectations for a program that calls a successful year a bowl game in Memphis or Nashville. Preferably on a day when UK basketball isn't playing.

UK football should strive to be Iowa football. Consistently win 7-9 games and once every 8-10 years put together a season where national spot light is on you. Winning at UK is a challenge based on the location of the school and the conference. UK football fans need expectation control.

I don't disagree....it may very well be a measure of exactly now not good the O line is....if Barker gets lit up, then at least we know where we can squarely point the finger....and it won't be the QB
