Owsley County's biggest rival by far is Lee County.

Same district.

Schools only 11 miles apart.

Not too much difference in enrollment: Owsley 250, Lee 350.

Usually the games are the biggest gate of the season for both schools, which is a huge indicator of a consistent rivalry.

Garrard County would say Lincoln County, but Lincoln County people would say Boyle County.

 

Garrard fans from a different era would likely say Mercer County (pre-merger), but that changed when the districts were realigned.

Why did St. Pats not want to renew this year? I would think Brossart's biggest rival would be Campbell County.

 

Agreed, wasn't saying that St. Pat was or anything, was just saying that back in 2007-08 and in the late 90s it made for a solid rivalry and some instant classics (2000 Region Semis, 2008 All A Finals). As for why Coach Taylor didn't reschedule, I may not agree with it, but I understand it. I'll concede, and anyone who's being honest with themselves will agree, that the mustangs have had st. pat out-classed for the last 5 seasons (the one year we were pretty even with them talent-wise they had an oak tree shaped gent named Joe Jennings and our biggest guy was about 6-4), and Taylor couldn't be sure that inexperience wasn't gonna be a factor for the saints this year. And while I know you don't learn anything by playing the Covington Latins of the world (no offense intended, go trojans :thumb:) you also don't really learn anything by getting beat by 36 either. Coach Hinson had to make a similar call in 2007 with Mason County, and I think a lot of class A coaches will tell you that strength of schedule is a tough tight-rope to walk when you coach at a place like St. Pat. That being said if I were him I would've kept Brossart and Bracken and dropped Newport and MoCo, but that could be why he's walking the sidelines and I'm not :lol2:

Mason County doesn't exactly have a rival, the past 2 years it was Fleming and Augusta. Before then it was by far Clark Co and Lexington Catholic. We don't really consider ourselves "rivals" with anyone now that Fleming Co doesn't have the best of teams.

Didn't Fleming County make the Sweet 16 the last two years?

 

To be fair, though, I'd say Fleming moving to the 16th Region did hurt the Mason/Fleming rivalry quite a bit.

Paris vs. Bourbon County

 

The Colonels lead the overall series 90-81 but the Greyhounds have won the last five in a row. A ton of history between these two long time rivals that started back in the early 60's. The rivalry was at an all-time high when Paris had Alvin Sims and Bourbon countered with Corey Williams. Those games were special!

Estill County vs. Powell County

 

First time I had seen Estill's gym cram packed last Friday night when these two hooked up, in a long while in the regular season.

Id say Boyle has 4 rivals.

 

Danville, Lincoln, Mercer. But I think the most heated especially in football would be Lexington Catholic

Of course Augusta's top rival is Bracken County. This is contested by many due to the incredibly lopsided record that is in Bracken County's favor. But currently Augusta has won 10 straight, their longest such stretch in the history of the rivalry. And when the two hook up the house is packed, every time. And as years have gone by the hatred is passed on to future generations to enjoy.

In the days that I was attending school in Park Hills, our biggest rival on the hardwood was the same as our biggest rival on the gridiron: Highlands Bluebirds. Holmes was in second place, and Simon Kenton was third.

Campbell County's is Brossart (and vice versa). No love lost when they get together at CCMS. Packed house, huge student sections on both sides.
