Did the Patriots Use Deflated Footballs in AFC Championship Game?

Featured Replies

Hellbird is a difficult guy to please. He hates Dalton and Lewis because they can't win the big game. He hates Brady and Belichek because they win a lot of big games!

In my honest opinion, the more I've read about this the more I am convinced it's a non-issue.

No, many simply hate New England for their success.

Has anyone thought about that it may have made a difference?

The NE BallBoy controls which balls go into play. Kickers use their own balls so when their is a change of possession a different ball goes into play.

This means when the Pats had the ball a deflated ball could have very easily been put into play and when the Colts had the ball a properly inflated ball would be put into play.

Anger, I got nothing to be angry about. My team's playing for their 4th SB championship in the last 15 seasons, while yours hasn't sniffed the joy of postseason victory in 20+ years. My team has the best coach and best QB to ever play the game, and our owner is outstanding in the football realm and in the community.

Want some more fuel to that Patriots hate you got burning deep inside?

Here's a great picture from Saturday night at Mr. Kraft's party:

Get the commish a diaper. Looks like he wet himself.

1 - This is stupid.

2 - Blount could have been carrying a watermelon and still rushed for 160+ and 4 TD's. No one wanted to tackle him.

3 - To clarify how it works with game balls...

While each home team supplies the balls for the game a bunch of balls go to each locker room prior to kickoff. The starting QB's for each team pick out the 6, 8, 10...however many balls they want...to use during the game. At that point the balls are labeled for each team and they only use those balls in non-kicking situations. So yes, the Pats had their own balls for the game.

With that said, deflated balls (allegedly) had about as much to do with that win as me not watching it.

Here is how it is done.

According to the NFL rule book, home teams are responsible for furnishing playable balls at all times. Each team brings 12 primary balls, while home teams are required to also bring 12 backup balls.

Once the referee makes sure the footballs are properly inflated, they're delivered to ball attendants provided by the home team.

So after the balls are inspected, they are all put into the hands of the home team representatives which would be the Patriots ball boys.

Just clarifying what is actually done. The balls do not go to each locker room prior to kickoff. The balls hours before the game after inspection are all then the responsibility of the home team.

The outcome of the game would not have been different in my eyes. I'm just clarifying what is actually done.

They don't go to the locker rooms and they aren't out of sight of an official while the QB's inspect them and decide which balls they want to use. They do decide which balls they want to use. They also brush up non-kicking balls to get the sheen off them and make them a little less slippery.

No one has said that isn't the case.

The home team is in possession of all the balls after inspection.

NFL has found that 11 of the Patriots footballs used in Sunday’s AFC title game were under-inflated by 2 lbs each, per league sources.
