Speaking of funk, Dakari Johnson. I thought he was going to be great this season. He started slow last season then figured it out by tournament time. This year he started great but has seemed to regress.

Long practices, tired legs, and an opponent from Mississippi. The cats looked as psyched for the game as I was. After pouncing for a 15-2 lead, they paused, Ole Miss got hot, and then the cats couldnt turn it back on. Looked like a early season SEC game. Its all good. Teams will have tough games via weird matchups etc. and that is to be expected. Overall good learning experience.

Agreed, they looked sluggish at times. I'm sure camp Cal had a lot to do with that. All in all, I believe they learned more from this one game than every other game they have played this year combined.

IMO, the long and short of it is simple. Kentucky played okay, not their best game, but not their worst either. Ole Miss played outstanding. They play this game 100 times they'll never play better than they did last night. Kentucky had to fight for it, but still won. To me, this game was simply a sign of just how good this UK team is.

I have heard people say that losing a game would be good for them and they would like for them to lose a game. However I won't lie I want to see them go undefeated and win the title. I think it is a possibility with this group, and I think games like last night is the type of games they need. They don't have to lose to learn a lesson IMO. Games like last night will help teach them a lesson. Plus they need games like last night to get them use to having to make plays in a tight game in the end, this way they are prepared for those situations come tournament time. So I am very happy with the win, and very happy that they got tested.

I'm one of those that can't imagine the pressure on them if UK were unbeaten heading into the tourney. I just can't see it ending well.

 

If UNLV in '91, UK in '78 and '96 can't go unbeaten, I find it hard to believe this squad can.

 

May they prove me wrong.

They were well above their season averages for both overall field goal and three point percentages last night. I'd say we could attribute it to Kentucky players failing to close out on shooters if I hadn't seen the game to know that Ole Miss made more than a few completely insane shots that were well contested that no one would have expected to go in. Kentucky took the Rebels' best shot and bested it.

 

The Cats shouldn't have won a game like that... but they did.

How I felt during the game:

I was surprised last night when they said he had just underwent surgery yesterday, seems like a long wait. I guess it was due to the holidays.

 

 

Had to to wait for the swelling to go down before they could operate.

This game probably helped UK in the long run BUT it also helped its opponents going forward. Before the Louisville game, a lot of people thought UK was invincible. Now after an 8 point win and an OT win by 3 at home, other teams are going to believe that if they play a great game, they can hang with and maybe even beat UK...

 

It will be fun to see how things play out...I know one thing, I would not want to be UK's next opponent.

I think UK can control its destiny in the SEC, meaning that if UK comes to play, the Cats win---no questions asked. On the flip side, if UK does not come to play, that does not mean an automtaic loss. The Cat lose only if the other tam plays exceptionally well.......merely a good game --and the Cats win.

People that are saying this gives other teams hope... I look at it the opposite. If I'm another team and we sit down and watch this tape I'm thinking holy cow we've got to do all that just to be in it?

 

Shoot 50% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc against the best defensive team in the country. Make 90% of our FT's and rebound with the tallest team in the country. And lets hope we catch them on an average night. All just to be in the game. I don't know how much hope that gives me but it can be done I guess.

I agree. Anyone who thought UK wouldn't be challenged in conference play was unrealistic.

 

Each team that plays them has the opportunity to really make their season with a win. They're in a no lose position. UK will continue to be challenged and not just by the better SEC teams.
