Kentucky 89 Ole Miss 86 OT

Featured Replies

Tonight is just what Kentucky needed. Take the win and be happy with it and be thankful it was a home game.

Camp Cal equals tired legs in my opinion. Also, some of the team wasn't ready for the intensity of conference play. Tonight will be a useful tool moving forward.

This close call can only help UK in the long run. They learned tonight that conference games are not to be taken for granted.

But I'll say it again, if Ole Miss shoots and plays like they did against UK for the rest of their games this season their future opponents are in trouble. But my guess is that won't happen, unless Mississippi State, Texas A&M, etc, sew the letters KENTUCKY on their uniforms.

:thumb: Great post, I agree with all that you said here.

U.K. missed 12 ft's (28-40), Rebels missed only 3ft's (19-22). U.K. only outrebounded Ole Miss by 2. Teams shot around the same pct. from the field.....

Bottom line is that Ole Miss played one helluva game, outplayed U.K. and Aaron H.'s shooting / 26 pts was THE difference in this one. Stats ......

They definitely have what it takes to beat some teams and if they get in the tournament, could upset a team or two with their guard play. Summers and Moody are a pretty solid combo. Add in White (I think) and they can be dangerous. I won't pretend to know Ole Miss much, but it sounded like Moody needed this game combined with better hydration, could really help push Ole Miss to the next level.

Would have liked Ole Miss to pull this out if only for the sake of Dayton's RPI. Like last year's postseason run, the Cats hit a couple timely shots and withstood some absolutely ludicrous shotmaking by the Rebels. Nice work by the Cats.

Just now finished with the 1st half. Second unit was a huge letdown when they came in the first time. They let Ole Miss get back into it & it was close from there on.

You're absolutely right. The starters were in complete control of June game and I believe took a 12-0 lead. I wonder if Cal lets them play for a couple more minutes before the wholesale changes next game.

Might be the first game that I can say I genuinely missed Alex Poythress. He might have created more of a defensive spark at times in this one.

One of the worst officiated games I think I have ever seen on the collegiate level.

The foul called on one of the Harrisons on the 3 point try is as bad a call as you will ever see. Very similar to the one in the video posted in another thread where NCC's Pangallo was called for a foul on a 3 pointer. No contact at all and really not that close to contact yet a foul was called. The game was called very tight and that put Ole Miss's great free throw shooting on display and kept them in the game.

Ole Miss played an almost perfect game and still lost. The one on one launch a 3 at the end of regulation was a horrible play by them.

And this is why the people who say Ulis needs to play more over Andrew need to shut up and let Cal coach.

What did you see from him that you would put him in over Ulis? The offense flows so much better w/ Ulis in there. Even last night, Harrison seemed confused before he hit his 3. I'm glad he hit it, but I didn't see anything from him that made me feel more comfortable w/ him running the offense, not to mention his defense...

The good news is that Mississippi would have beaten every team in the country w/ the way they shot last night, and they didn't win this one. UK lacked energy until it was crunch time, and even then Mississippi beat them to a lot of boards that they shouldn't have.

To me the Ullis vs. Harrison debate is just as much about defense as it is on offense. Offensively Andrew will come in to his own and be good enough like last season. Defensively both of the Twins are struggling mightily. They practiced it in the Bahamas, but I would love to see some more zone.

Ulis size seemed to bother him defensively last night. Rare to say that. He did have moments where he played well, but overall it wasn't his best defensive performance.

I agree, but at the same time UK has to get a hand out up some of those shots. Closing out with your hand at your sides will get you burnt and it did several times last night. Don't give a team false confidence.

Ulis was awful defensively last night, he let numerous drives to the baskets go right by him as it looked like he was on his heels.
