People can deny it till they are blue in the face, but I believe wholeheartedly if Tubby were white he would have been appreciated a lot more than he was, and is now.

 

I never bought the black/white argument & still don't. If Tubby had the record Rick amassed, he would've been praised just as Rick was, prior to his coming to UL. I also think Rick was a better in game coach.

 

Minnesota ran him out of town too, but we don't hear the black & white thing being tossed their way. They recognized what a lot of UK fans did: that his best coaching years were behind him.

 

Tubby will (and should) get a banner in the rafters. He will receive thunderous applause in Rupp Arena when it happens.

He's not there yet consistently but he may be approaching it unfortunately.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but apparently WCS was shouting at Coach Payne on the bench last night???

 

It looked more to me like Coach Payne doing the shouting and WCS trying to defend himself. Problem was, his position was not defensible and that seemed to make Payne madder.

I agree wholeheartedly with the first part. I agree with the second part if you are talking about Xs and Os. If you're talking about the total package I'll take Pitino. 6 years where he was eligible for the NCAA Tourney: 1 Championship, 1 Runner-Up, 3 Final Fours, 5 Elite 8s, 5 SEC Tourney Championships. That pretty much trumps Tubby.

 

As an in game coach Tubby is second to none. His halftime adjustments in 1998 are responsible for that Title more than any individual performance. He seriously out-coached Coach K in that regional final. But recruiting and player development are part of the process as well and Rick was better than him at both.

I know those Youtube clips of the Harrison's and Young really hoowinked me. I thought those guys were going to be much better shooters. Harrison with a wide open three down the stretch and it didn't even come close to catching iron.

Stop watching mix tapes to judge players. Anyone looks good when they edit out every miss...

I don't know if playing zone would help but this Kentucky team can't play man to man defense. The Harrison's are slower than cold molasses, so quicker guards are blowing past them on drives, and the other players seem lost at times. One play last night had 3 UK players attempting to shot block a player driving the baseline and he simply swung a pass to another Tiger for a dunk. And no UK player in a mile on the weak side to defend.

 

Inconsistent shooting +no defense + no hustle = no win

 

Some of the radio dudes today were saying if UK loses at Missouri and gets waxed twice by Florida that they would have to be considered on the bubble for an NCAA tourney berth.

 

I'm highly disappointed in the production of these guys. I expected more, especially in the hustle and heart department. I suppose the scouting services don't always get it right. These guys were overrated, particularly the Harrison's.

Joe Hall was white. He won a championship, and he had more Final Four appearances than Tubby. He was not appreciated either. So personally, I think you're wrong.

Don't know how Tubby came into this conversation, but plain and simple.

He inherited a National Championship caliber program. He left a program that lost in the round of 32 three of the last four years.

 

BCG was a mess, but he also inherited a mess. And, who left it for him?

 

I was a supporter of Tubby until he put his son ahead of the program. And no matter what anyone says, the program went down hill.

Hickey would be a junior point guard at UK right now who knows how to place defense. This is college. We don't have to kick anyone off the team to make room for Hickey 2 years ago. I'm just curious if UK fans would like to have a point guard on their team who knows how to play defense, run an offense, distribute the basketball.

Don't have to kick anyone off the team, but give him a scholly and do we get in the Jarnell Stokes sweepstakes at midseason? I'd trade Stokes for Randle in a heartbeat.

Me either. I know I'd take Hickey before any of the current homegrown Ky kids on the roster and I love all of them equally.

 

And if I were a D1 coach, coming out of high school, I'd have thought McCreary's Aaron Watts was a better collegiate prospect than Jarrod Polson purely from the standpoint of evaluating their basketball talent.

 

I don't think that Polson's a very good example. He's a kid who was willing to walk on with no guarantee of ever being anything more than the kid who was an ornament on the bench and boosted the team GPA.

I think that was last season for skipping some classes. Seems like he missed some games early in the season. I think he has been out of trouble this season.

 

If skipping classes is trouble in college, I'm a hell raiser.

 

Understand why he was disciplined, even if that's what it was, because you don't want to set that precedence with your athletes, even though it's something that tons of normal students do all the time. Definitely isn't what comes to mind when I hear "indefinite suspension" like his was termed though.
