Who votes for these? How do coaches know of the skills of the players they are voting for if they haven't played them in competition?

Just wondering as I see players in the Honorable Mention or not listed that were stronger forces on teams then those listed. NCC lost their sweeper to a knee injury the last game of the season and Notre Dame had a field day without the strong force in the center compared to thier first match up yet I see the Ackerson girl at Honorable mention with others on the team higher. I believe she was goalie last year as did a pretty good job for not being a trained goalie. My daughter plays club with her and she is definately a leader and force on the field and a leader with her club team off the field. There are many unappreciated positions in soccer and defenders often get overlooked. Enjoy watching Allie Otten from NCC also, quiet and very skilled.

thoughts anyone? how does this voting take place?

Ask and you shall receive. Coaches are allowed to nominate 5 players and cannot vote for any of their own players. It is possible that kids were nominated and received no votes or simply were not nominated by their coach. Here you talking about defenders, they do the dirty work and get no love. These teams are very suspect to say the least.

Where do you get Highlands with 6? and Brossart with 7?

Um... by counting.

However, it looks like I'm not very good at it. This is my second try:

Ryle 5

Highlands 4

Boone County 4

Newport Central Catholic 4

St. Henry 3

Calvary Christian 3

If you still thinks it's wrong just tell me what the correct answer is.

Assuming your count is correct, I think it shows how seriously these "all star" team selections should be taken. Brossart, probably the 4th or 5th best team in N. Ky. this past season with 6 selections? Really? Over half their team was so good as to garner post-season recognition? Ryle with 5? Seriously...

Won the All A state (which St Henry and NCC participated in) had the best record in NKY. Won their region and was knocked out by the eventual state champ. Hard to argue they were not in the top 2-3 for sure in NKY. As for having 6 kids recognized in the area, hard for me to gage. I did not see a lot of teams play because I do not like the game.

Don't get too defensive but the final coaches poll had them 4th in N. Ky. My point is not to get into an argument about how good Brossart was, merely to say that the "all star" selections are not necessarily indicative of talent. If you have a pretty good player on a terrible team.......he will get noticed maybe more than a better player on a very good team. I'm not saying Brossart was bad but as you can see they were 4th in the final poll and Ryle was 5th and they had more selections than anyone? Or maybe they just have coaches who send in lots of nominations?

KY Boys Soccer: Final Poll

1. Boone County ( 4 )

2. Covington Catholic

3. Newport Catholic

4. Brossart ( 1 )

5. Ryle

6. Highlands

7. St. Henry

8. Simon Kenton

9. Dixie Heights

10. Scott

Not at all defensive, just knew they had a good year and that usually equates to having lots of players on post season teams. You may need to ask the coaches that voted for them? I'm assuming each school gets one vote?

Agree. That's kind of why I through the numbers out there. Take nothing away from brossart on a very good year, but... But Ryle?
