Nashville Hot in Crescent Springs has closed their doors. Sounds like Joella's didn't help their business.

 

I'm personally pretty surprised that Nashville Hot lasted as long as it did. I thought it was good, but not as good as Joella's. And I DEFINITELY felt like Joella's had the better location...for access, anyway.

 

My understanding is that the ownership of the two restaurants were completely unaware of the fact that they were simultaneously opening Nashville hot chicken restaurants until they were both remodeling their buildings and preparing to open up. Unfortunate.

Very good dinner selection. Brussel sprouts recipe is delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you are on that side of town.

I typically get Joella's every few weeks when I'm working. I certainly prefer them over Nashville Hot.

I think easier access all depends on which direction your normally coming from. I’ve only eaten at Nashville Hot, as I’m normally coming from Dixie Highway, and it’s a simple right turn, rather than making a left across traffic to get to Joella’s. Nashville Hot also had better visibility from Buttermilk. Unless you catch sight of the sign, you wouldn’t know Joella’s is even there. That being said, I only ate at Nashville Hot a few times since it opened, even though I felt it was pretty good.

This is not a shock to me. Walked in one day. Looked around at others eating to see what the food looked like. It smelled awful, so I just walked out without trying it.

Dang it smelled that bad, I can't say I ever experienced that. For me I think that location isn't the best but I would also say that it's just a minimal issue.

Ate at Grace of India in Cincinnati last week. Very good food and lots of it for the price.

Darn shame!

It seems that "corporate" couldn't leave well enough alone.

Fran has always been a good friend, and Alexandria Gold Star has always been a welcoming place to stop in after games and meetings.

 

Another good friend/major Brossart H.S. supporter Joan Zai owns/operates Skyline Chili about a mile north of the Gold Star, and big time Brossart supporter Steve Martin owns Empress Chili, about a mile to the south.

 

Hopefully, much of the old Gold Star clientele will gravitate to these fine establishments for their chili fixes.

 

We certainly thank Fran for all of her kindness over the years and wish her the best in "retirement."

A really good one opened in my building. They did the design for the build out and patio. Really good food.

Any new diamonds in the rough?

For something different, try La Torta Loca in Florence. This is a small place. I have done carryout only. The food is fantastic and the portions huge. Torta is a Mexican sandwich. They also have arepas, which are a Venezuelan sandwich. Tacos, empanadas, interesting side dishes. Definitely worth checking out.

Best Chinese Buffet in the Cincinnati area is the Szechuan House which is located in Sharonville, OH. Their eggrolls, moo shu pork, black & pepper chicken and crab rangoon are fantastic. The place is clean and doesn't feel like a "buffet".

 

As far as Thai food, I've been big on Thai Namtip off of Northbend road in the Cheviot, OH area. Their Southern Style Fried rice with chicken is amazing. I've asked for the recipe on several occasions, I think I'm making progress. 

Don't know if it's been mentioned and I'm not reading 73 pages to find out, but I have always loved Andy's Mediterranean Grille on Nassau St.   I always hit that place up when I go to the Art Museum.

Not sure if it's been listed, but if you're ever in the Latonia, KY area hit Lynna's Diner. Great breakfast and a great burger.
