jolmstead
What is the cost of replacing a turf field? Got to be 6 figures, easy. Maybe 250 k.
plantmanky
Last time I looked at turf pricing, replacement turf was around 300K for turf/numbers/all the lines and a center logo. Not really to much to it if your field is already set up for turf.

jolmstead
How old was the turf at Trinity? Are you thinking reuse? I know a school in BC that could use a turf field!!!!!
All Tell
Turf was installed in 2005. Whole lot of use between football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball practice, PE classes, CSAA and AAU games. It was shedding very badly. If you walked on it for any time at all you came off with green shoes.
All Tell
Didnt they get theres the same year Lex Cath got their turf the first time? No. Lex Cath pre-dated Trinity's by at least 3 years.
theguru
Good for Trinity for maintaining the playing field. I think we are going to see some schools slack in that area.
Bluegrasscard
Guess it was pretty frayed. Had not noticed this past spring during a lacrosse game. 10 years is most you get from a 'well used' field of the era. I think LexCath's first turf was installed in 2000 or 2001. There are specific tests for a) abrasion and b) bounce. Abrasion is a MRSA issue since open skin is more at risk and the bounce issue is related to concussions. So both need to be evaluated on older fields.
Blockbuster
Field turf was initially sold as being cost effective. It is anything but cost effective. I agree that those schools that "invested" in field turf will drop the ball when it is time invest another $250-300,000 into replacing it every 8-10 years. tdyballgame
Good for Trinity for maintaining the playing field. I think we are going to see some schools slack in that area. Mostly because of money constraints I'm sure. It will be interesting where this thread leads.
All Tell
The initial outlay is daunting no doubt but I wonder whar costs would be incurred with a well maintained natural turf field over 8-10 years of heavy use? Also how much revenue could a school see if they are able to rent their facility without worrying about inclement weather. RockPride
^ From talking with Coach Lampley...we actually come out a little ahead on this.....you have to maintain a grass field....water it, cut it....etc...plus the labor of maintenance and the forfeiture of quality surface in adverse weather..... There were a ton of wins on that turf....surprised Trinity didn't auction it off.
