SirriusXM radio

Sorry for the rant that follows...

When I got my new (to me) truck last summer, one of the options on the radio console was SirriusXM radio. The previous owner's subscription had already run out, so I never used it. Was content with listening to local AM/FM, throwing a few CD's in it, or using the Bluetooth connection to listen to music I had downloaded on my phone.

Normally, I'd be quite content with those options for our typical travel around town. But, the other day I got an offer in the mail from them, saying I could reactive the radio for $5 a month. And I figured with our summer vacation that we'll be taking (10 states or so), it'd be nice to have always have some tunes available, without burning thru what's on my phone or without having to constantly load/unload CD's...so, what the heck. The offer is good for 12 months, and I can cancel at anytime.

So this morning I went thru the process on the website, got signed up, and was told that I'd need to "refresh" my radio. A fairly simple process, it seemed. So I went out on my break and tried to do it. Nothing. I get their preview channel, but nothing else. So I start a chat with one of their customer support people. She goes thru and sends a refresh from her end. Still nothing. She has me do some other things. Still nothing. She then recommends I call and talk to one of their troubleshooting teams. Fine. But, now I've got to go back to work.

So, at lunchtime, I head back out the truck. Tried doing the refresh from my end (using the phone), but get a message saying I've exceeded the number of refresh attempts for this radio in a 24 hour time period. So, I was set to call the troubleshooting team. Only problem was, that chat had disappeared when I closed the browser, so I had no number to call. So, onto a new one.

But, before I got the number, the new person I was chatting with, decided that they needed to go thru the procedure first. Still nothing. Oh, let's try this and this. (Which had been done before.) Still nothing. Okay, now they give me the troubleshooting team phone number (which I now have written down).

I call the troubleshooting team, and go thru the whole process of what's already been done before. We verify radio number. We verify the vehicle number. On and on and on. I eat up 30 minutes of time with "Dan", only for him to finally say..."Sometimes there can be a delay or latency with the refresh signal reaching the radio. But, usually it's received within 24 hours." WHY IN THE HECK DIDN'T SOMEONE LEAD WITH THAT!!!! I'm not in a hurry to use it right now, so 24 hours is no big deal to me...but, missing lunch is! :woot:

Anybody else have SirriusXM radio? Ever experience a delay in a "refresh"?

First of all I will tell you I don't trust this company an inch.

You better cancel before the renewal date or they will crush you.

And I did a refresh once, it took a few tries but I was all set up in about 20 minutes.

I will say it again, I don't trust this company.

What is it you don't trust?

Once Howard is off the air I will cancel my subscription. Hoping that is no time soon, though!

Same for me. Contract through 2020 but I hope he goes longer.

Side note: ordered the book and can't wait to start reading it on May 14th.

I have had satellite radio for most of the last 15 years. I love it, and have never had a single problem with customer or radio service. I’m paying about $25 a month for one all access sub, and a middle level sub (which I just renegotiated). Even when Howard leaves, I don’t see myself ever getting rid of it.

My only complaint is the hassle they put me through every year at renewal time to get a better rate. Same story for 3 years straight. I call them and tell them I'm paying "insert cost here" rate they charge and want a lower price. The guy/gal tells me there's nothing they can do and the rate is the rate. I tell them I want to cancel, they tell me they have to transfer me to someone else, the new guy/gal gets on the phone, I tell them I want to cancel and what do you know, I get a lower rate. The last 2 times I've told the first person to just go ahead and transfer me to the person that can give me the lower rate to try and avoid the "game" but still the same story.

I will agree with the part of canceling before the renewal date. It's in their agreement that renewal is automatic at the regular rate so if you don't call them first they will start billing you the higher rate.

Yeah, that part is clear. They didn't even try to hide it in fine print. It basicallys says I can get the $5 rate per month for up to 12 months, after that the rate becomes $15.

It also says, upfront, that I can cancel at any time.

I've had it for a number of years on our automobiles. And YES, if you want to cancel make sure you call them before the subscription ends or even if you want to renew for another year. Also, we play the "I'm canceling because I want to cut costs" game and always get a much lower renewal price. If you give them a credit card number over the phone you MUST MUST indicate they are to NOT to attach that number to your Sirius account and it's a ONE TIME thing. Also, when setting up your online account I'd suggest you NEVER enter a credit card number on that account for future payment because if you forget to call them before the subscription ends they will automatically bill you at their regular much inflated price.

Unfortunately, you do have to deal with folks working for this company that are outside the US. Some have not mastered the English language too well so at times I've experienced some confusion with procedures. I've only had one issue with them over the years but like Guru, I don't really 100% trust them which is why I stay vigilant with knowing when to call. I check my online account regularly. To be honest, I don't trust anybody/company 100% with my money.

I have never liked Stern. But I am anti crass and crude and porn so no surprise why I wouldn't like him.

As to Sirius, I have enjoyed it during the times I had it for free.
