plantmanky
If you start comparing numbers he has to be considered. He plays on another team than the bengals for bulk of career he is in the HOF.
Voice of Reason
More rushing yards in his career than OJ Simpson, Earl Campbell, Terrell Davis. There are only 3 retired running backs with more rushing yards than him who are not in the HOF - Edgerrin James, Fred Taylor and Steve Jackson. Two of the best rushing games in NFL history. He has a Super Bowl ring. It is not out of the question that he gets in the HOF. On the borderline but let's not act like it is silly to ask the question. futurecoach
Heavens, no. Why not? Just cause you may not have liked him doesn't mean he isn't a hall of famer or at least in the conversation. It's honestly a shame he played for the Bengals because imo he may have been the best back in the NFL he just happened to play for the Bengals. The Bengals had no qb and no receivers and literally went against 8 and 9 man boxes all the time and he still did his thing and broke 2 records at the time. Then when he goes to New England and finally has a qb, even though he was no longer in his prime he still ended up leading the nfl in yards and tds that year. He definitely is at least in the conversation.
mcpapa
Marginal. Would take several ballots and a weak class.
futurecoach
Marginal. Would take several ballots and a weak class. If Terrell Davis made it, why is Dillon just marginal? Davis basically had one special season and 2 more good ones and that's it.

With over 1600 yards in the year he got his Super Bowl ring in New England, Dillon has a chance. Without that season in New England, it is very doubtful he gets in. GrantNKY
If he wasn't a Bengal during his prime this wouldn't be a debate.
Voice of Reason
Dillon averaged 1,124 yards per season rushing. That is better than these Hall of Fame running backs: Jerome Bettis Tony Dorsett Marshall Faulk Marcus Allen Franco Harris Thurman Thomas John Riggins OJ Simpson

League MVP (2) Dillion (0) Offensive Player of the Year (3) Dillion (0) NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (1) Dillion (Made Rookie team) Pro Bowls (7) Dillion (4) Touchdowns (136 7th all time) Dillion (89 34th all time) Total Yards (19,154 4th all time) Dillion (13,154 44th all time) I'm not saying he does or doesn't belong, but he's not in Marshall's class by quite a bit. Put it this way if Dillon would have played for almost any other team. I doubt you would be able to say Dillon isn't in the same class as Faulk. Imo Dillon would have been known as the best back in the NFL if not for who he played for. You put Dillon on the team's Faulk played for. Dillon is already in the Hall of Fame. Put Faulk on the team's Dillon played for and he probably doesn't even do as well as Dillon did for horrible Bengal teams.

Not buying it, Dillion could run...but his total game isn't on par with Marshall. Using your metric if Tim Couch had went to the Patriots instead of the Browns he might be in the HoF. Team does matter, but at the end of the day all we can measure them on is what they are actually able to produce. Dillion never had the hands that Marshall did in the pass game and Marshall also played on a couple of 3-13 Colts teams as well.

Every team knew to stop the Bengals you just need to stop him. There was not a time he didn't have 8 and even 9 men in the box to run against. While Faulk played with 2 hall of fame qbs. Who also did just fine without him.
