Former Newport Central Catholic player profiles

Recommended Posts

Over the next month or so I will highlight one former NewCath player with her stats and records.

However, to start, I will highlight a group of young ladies who were teammates on the 1st ever NewCath fastpitch team (2007), although the 2006 team played 10 fastpitch games. Entering their 1st full season of fastpitch, this team had the 3rd best record in the 9th Region (24-11), won the All A Sectional Tourney, were 34th District Champs, and lost to Conner (24-7) 5-2 in the 9th Region Tourney. The team was led in the circle by Fr. Courtney Sandfoss. They were one hell of a defensive group, and their numbers back it up.

Courtney Sandfoss (Class of 2010)

cs.jpg

When she departed the "hill", she was best known for her basketball prowess. There is no telling how good her numbers would have been if she would have continued to pursue softball. Many believe she could have played softball at the next level, but she was one hell of a hoops player and did not play her Junior or Senior year, as she concentrated on basketball (she signed with NKU).

As a freshman she had a 21-11 record 1.32 ERA and hit .380.

As a sophomore pitcher she had a 1.84 ERA and also hit .467.

She was selected to the Ky Enquirer 1st Team both years she played.

She finished her career with a .383 AVG. and a 1.75 ERA.

Records

(Tied) Appearances in a Season - 32

Danielle Hausfeld (Class of 2011)

dan.jpg

If you look up the word dedication or hard work, then there should be a picture of Danielle Hausfeld next to it. From the time she was in the 7th grade through her senior year she saw her pitching coach EVERY Sunday, threw 6 days a week during HS & travel ball season and 4 days a week in the off-season to her equally dedicated dad, Dan, and played for the Kentucky Xplosion travel team.

If it wasn’t for her diminutive size….5’4”, 110lbs. she would have garnered offers from much bigger schools. However, her size did not keep her from being one of the top pitchers in NKY during her high school career and getting a college scholarship (Mount St. Joe’s). She consistently threw 55-57 MPH and had a change-up that was FLAT OUT NASTY!!! She was named All 35th District all four years, was Ky Enquirer All Star 1st Team her Sr. year, NKSCA 1st Team Jr & Sr. year, and was the 2011 NKSCA Player of the Year.

It was her arm that kept those Breds teams in many of those games. IMO, the best to put on a NewCath softball uni.

She was a .321 career hitter, and only walked 95 batters in 615 plus innings. 330 K's her Jr. year and 270 her Sr. year.

She also threw 7 No-Hitters and 1 Perfect game.

She is also in the Top 10 in most of the Offensive categories.

Pretty neat stats you are putting on here lawnboy, but man you must be really bored waiting for football season to start.

Not even close!!! Although my schedule opens up after the summer softball league I'm running ends tonight.

Plus, I enjoy doing this for the girls.

Stephanie Hardesty (Class of 2011)

A 3 year varsity starter who played 2B & SS as a sophomore (22 PO, 25 AST, 3 ERR - .940 FLD%), it was behind the dish catching for Danielle Hausfeld, that she made her mark. In 2010 she set the season and career marks for Putouts with 283 (282 behind the plate). She followed that up in 2011 with 271 all behind the plate. In those two years she threw out 18 of 56 base runners (32%).

She finished her career with a .310 batting average, and a .426 OB%. She is in the Top 10 career wise in RBI's, Walks, and OB%.

Defensively she ranks tied for 3rd in career FLD% (.970) 576 PO, 65 AST, 20 ERR

Hannah Thiem (Class of 2011)

This former two-sport standout (basketball) wasn’t “flashy”, but got the job done. Primarily SS or 2nd basemen, Hannah also could go behind the dish when needed. A 3-year varsity starter, she ended her playing career in the Top 10 in Doubles (16), Runs Scored (59), Stolen Bases (17), BA (.323), SLG% (.448), & OB% (.469).

Her most productive seasons were her Soph. & Junior year. As a sophomore she led the team in BA .408, SLG% .449, & OB% .500. Her junior year she led the team in OB% .469 & Walks with 28. As a senior she still batted over .300 with SLG% & OB% above .400.

In the field she accumulated 141 PO, 72 AST, & 20 ERR (.914 FDG %). With 72 PO 3 AST 3 ERR (.962 FDG %) coming behind the plate.

Paige Immegart (Class of 2012)

paige.jpg

Before current Holy Cross Sr. Alehia Tucker, who has played varsity softball for 3 different high schools (Dixie, Holmes, & Holy Cross), there was Paige Immegart. She came to NewCath for her last two high school seasons after playing at both Dixie and Scott.

The tall blonde was a welcomed addition to the NewCath offense and defense, as she possessed a very quick swing and had an absolute missile for an arm. As a junior she led the team with 8 doubles, 4 triples, a .449 On Base %, & a .578 SLG% while batting a respectable .328. Her senior season she was still in the .300’s in both OB% & SLG%, while batting .306 with 28 RBI. She finished her career with a .389 OB%, .446 SLG%, & .314 BA.

In the field during the 2011 season with Danielle Hausfeld in the circle she only had 16 putouts in centerfield, but in 2012 (with DLG in the circle:lol2:) she registered 47 putouts and 3 assists.

And in my opinion very good (and overlooked) umpire for the 9th Region. Time to put deserving umpires like Hannah and Sandman in the post season tournaments.

Meghan Millard (Class of 2012)

mehgan.jpg

A career .343 batter she was small in stature, but she played big. Meghan had an exceptional career playing for the Breds has a 4-year starter. She was primarily an outfielder, but she did pitch a few games, played 1st, and played the entire 2011 season has a left-handed 2nd basemen. :wideyed:

As a freshmen in 2009 she batted .276 with 8 SB’s, however her sophomore season her average jumped to .349 with 21 runs scored and 10 SB’s. As a junior she increased her average to .358 with a team leading 34 hits and 20 runs scored, she also added 10 SB’s. Her senior campaign, offensively her best, she hit .360 with a team leading 49 runs scored and again 10 SB’s. She also hit her only homerun of her HS career on Senior Night, a walk-off grand-slam in the 10th inning against Beechwood.

She finished her career tied for 2nd in career AB’s (364), SB’s (38), & Putouts by an Outfielder (55). She is 3rd in Hits (125) and Base on Balls (44).

Rachel Hardesty (Class of 2012)

rach.jpg

A 4-year varsity starter who also was a guard on the hoops team and goal keeper on the soccer team, Rachel was always plagued by the “injury bug” in her 4 years playing varsity sports. She showed so much promise as a freshmen playing 1st and hitting .309 with 12 RBI in only 18 games. Her sophomore year she was limited to only 13 games because of a knee injury, but still hit .313. A recurring knee injury saw her appear in 20 games as a junior and hit only .196 with 50 at bats, but still drove in 10 runs. Finally as a senior, and injury free, she hit .408 with a team best 32 RBI with 42 hits and 30 runs scored in 32 games.

She was named to the 2012 9th Region All-Tournament Team. In 83 career games she finished with a .377 OB% and a .325 batting average. She collected 80 hits and drove in 58 runs. She is 2nd in career Putouts by a 1st baseman with 411 and is 5th in career FLD% at .969.

Taylor Burkart (Class of 2014)

tay.jpg

By far the most versatile player to ever put on a NewCath uniform, Daddy’s Little Girl is the only player in NKY history to play every position in a varsity career, starting at every one but catcher.

Following her 8th grade JV season, which she was named team MVP starting at 3rd/OF, she was asked to learn how to pitch by Coach Barnes. So after her Frosh soccer season she threw 5 days a week to learn how to get the ball over the plate. My shins and the NewCath Black Box Theater curtain took a beating for about 3-4 months. It wasn’t until her sophomore year that she did the majority of her pitching. In 16 starts (24 appearances) she went 11-8 with 3 saves in 93.2 innings with 42K’s and a 3.23 ERA. The following season she only threw in 26 innings going 2-3 with 1 save, 12K’s and a .081 ERA. On April 3rd of 2013 she threw her only No-Hitter, a 5K/1BB performance against the Scott Eagles.

Although she never hit higher than 5th in the line-up, following her final HS game she had the most RBI (65) than any other Bred. She was a lifetime .287 hitter with a .374 OB%. She was a 2-time Defensive POY & 36th District All-Tourney Team, & 2014 NKSCA 1st Team.

As a freshman she started in RF,CF, LF, 2nd, & SS, committing only 1 error.

As a sophomore she started at every position but catcher, committing 2 errors.

As a junior she started in RF, CF, LF, 3rd, 1st, & P, committing 1 error.

As a senior she started in RF, CF, LF, 1st, SS, & P, and got her 1st assignment at catcher. A bad weekend at the All A State saw her commit her only 2 errors at SS and 1 at 1st. She committed 4 total on the season for a career ending .970 FLD%, highest among any 4-year varsity starter.

Seems like she was a great team player. It is always good to have a player that will play wherever the coach needs her, and will do whatever it takes to help out the team.
