1A Notebook 10/3 - Districts

By Voice of Reason - Teams are into district play now. Time to look at how things are expected to play out. Before we go there, let's do a quick review of last week's results. 1. Beechwood lost to 6A #6 Simon Kenton 14-22 - It was a valiant effort by the Tigers. They had two touchdowns called back by penalty and had a run into the end zone from the one yard line ruled a fumble. The Pioneers made the plays they needed to win and the Tigers came up short. 2. Kentucky Country Day had the week off. 3. Hazard beat #9 Pikeville 38-26 - This was a big win for Hazard. The Bulldogs win gives them the upper hand... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (10/3): A BANNER Game

By DragonFire - No game had more hype and more implications last week than #5 Rockcastle County at #2 Wayne County. As mentioned last week, the home team had won the last three meetings between these two teams, including a crucial 41-34 OT decision taken down by Rockcastle County a season ago. Wayne County simply wanted to defend their homefield and get a big win while, Rockcastle County entered licking their wounds from a 12-6 loss to Somerset the week before, and looking to get their offense back on track. It was the ground and pound of Rockcastle County against the aerial attack of Wayne County. The... Read More →

Lexington/Central KY Power Rankings 10-2-17

By All State Baseball - 1.6A: Scott County (5-2): The Cardinals continue dominating their opponents, this time it was Henry Clay’s turn at defeat as Scott County blew by the Blue Devils 57-28. The Cardinals had yet another 400+ total yardage game as they piled up 431 total yards of offense against Bryan Station. At this rate, no one in the state of KY might not be able to stop the high powered offense of Scott County. 2.2A: Lexington Christian (7-0): LCA’s winning streak continues up to 7 straight games. The Eagles defeated the Midldlebsoro Yellow Jackets 76-28 on Friday. Not only do they continue to win but... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (10/2)

By Ram - Class 1A Beechwood battled valiantly against a ranked Class 6A Simon Kenton, but the Tigers eventually fell. Despite the defeat the Tigers remain at the top of the rankings heading into a showdown with District foe Bellevue. Hazard got a little more than many expected from rival Pikeville but the Bulldogs came away with the huge District win, and look to essentially clinch the Title this week against upstart Phelps. Kentucky Country Day will have their own big clash as they travel to Louisville Holy Cross. The only undefeated team left in Class 1A is Ludlow, and the Panthers hope to keep... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 10/1/17

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2017 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 6 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, Fall and Fall Breaks are upon us and for many of the top teams the BYE week is here. Rest and recuperation are the most prescribed mandates for most teams and yourself. Get out and enjoy this time of year! It is my favorite – sweatshirt and shorts!!! While players are headed to the couch, what about the coaching staffs? I would say the better coaching staffs take this time to relax a bit, but carry around film on the best team they have yet to play this season. As... Read More →

3A Notebook: Parlor Games

By gchs_uk9 - There is a parlor game in which one is presented with three choices and must make a decision. While tawdry, the game can provide cheap humor and tough choices for male and female contestants. We're not going into full detail in this week's 3A Notebook, but since we have reached the final month of the regular season, we are going to look at each district and make a decision about three teams. One team is who we like long-term, another is who can have some success short-term, and last is who we just don't see it happening for this year. Note: Records are current; rankings are from... 1A Game of the Week: 1A #2 Kentucky Country Day at 1A #7 Louisville Holy Cross

By Bac2369 - We have finally made it to District play. Now it's time to set yourself up for a good playoff run by getting the 1 seed and ensuring a couple of home playoff games. It has been a very exciting and wild season so far, to say the least. A few surprise teams have made big strides from last season and come out of the wood work to climb into the BGP Class 1A Top 10. The 1A Game of the Week features two teams who SHOULD be battling it out for the top seed in District 3. The winner could potentially lock up home field advantage during the playoffs through the semi-finals as long as they keep... Read More →

2A Game of the Week: #2 DeSales at #5 Christian Academy-Louisville

By DevilMayCare - With all due respect to everything that's transpired up to this point... now it starts to get real. Everything we've seen so far has been (admittedly good) salads and side dishes. Now we get to sink our teeth into the real meat of the regular season, and football fans are predominantly carnivores. Last week, the Louisville big school privates took center stage. This week, it's the little guys’ turn to settle the pecking order, at least temporarily. Of course, little is relative. The only thing small about DeSales and Christian Academy-Louisville is their classification. The talent and... Read More →

It's Separation Time in Class 2A

By ATLCat - Winning Ugly Looks Oh So Good for Somerset; Danville Up Next Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and right now for Somerset fans they may be witnessing a work of art while other fans may be seeing a less than desirable score. Somerset relied on a stout defense and just enough Offense to outlast 1A Raceland 16-13 on the road to improve to 5-2. The recipe that led to victory is becoming a common one for the team with the gold-plated helmets. Somerset is averaging an underwhelming 13 points per game over their last six results, yet their Defense has rose to the occasion allowing less... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings September 27

By Bert - 1. Trinity (6-0) – Trinity had a pretty easy time with Jeffersontown last week but this is Pride week and St. X will be ready to give the Rocks all they can in this week's Game of the Week. Trinity is the obvious favorite but rivalry games can be unpredictable. 2. St. Xavier (5-0) – St. X had a nice win over a very strong PRP. This week will be X's strongest opponent in Trinity 3. Male (5-1) – Male pounded a good Butler team 35-6. A PRP team off a loss comes to Male and should give Male a great test. 4. Pleasure Ridge Park (5-1) – PRP's loss to St. X was nothing to be ashamed... Read More →

5A Notebook 9/29: The Colonels Continue Their March

By DevilMayCare - Top ranked Covington Catholic (6-0) showed nothing even remotely resembling a let down after their complete and total destruction of Beechwood from two weeks ago. The Colonels welcomed Ohio Division III powerhouse St. Francis DeSales from Columbus and were anything but gracious hosts as they promptly dispatched the visiting Stallions in impressive fashion, 35-7. Running back Casey McGinniss piled up 186 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, and the defense continued to stifle its opposition. They've now given up 49 points in six games for a 5A leading 8.1 ppg against. The Colonels are now 2-0... Read More →
