TP94 Power Ratings (10/18/23)

Featured Replies

Formula uses avg. margin of victory/loss capped at 36pts and applied to strength of schedule played. There is an exception used for vastly better (more than 40 pt difference in ratings) teams where a running clock is used to keep the ratings more accurate.

Definitely appreciate the work that goes into this.  I do have one odd question and it pertains to Sayre.  Are you sure their rating is correct?  I know their schedule hasn't been the toughest, but they're 8-0 and all but one of the teams they beat has a higher TP94 rating than they do.

Dixie is 58.3 and Simon Kenton beat them and they are 52.75 makes no sense!

I say it every time you release these but I honestly think these are the most accurate rankings out there by far.

Math is hard.

Dixie's opponents' W/L record is better than SK's, and SK got waxed by CovCath. Those things matter in a rating system like this.

Dixie played Scott and Boone County. The math is wrong! Nice try though. Dixie is 4-4

SK is 5-2 and a tougher schedule than Dixie but whatever.

I think this is very cool. Thanks for the hard work putting this together!

Their games with Boone and Scott combined are 3-14. Two of your 5 wins are against PLD and Great Crossing who also are a combined 3-14. Also they played both teams that beat you Cov. Cath. and Beechwood better than SK did. One last thing they also defeated Conner by 27 points to SK 21 points. I think @Tigerpride94 math's looks pretty good to someone not looking at it through SK colored glasses.?

SK’s opponents are 28-24, Dixie’s are 36-22. SK has most certainly not played a tougher schedule.

Glad to see that you are able to laugh @MaddenCurse44when you can plainly see you have been proven wrong by myself and @TheDeuce?

I'm not proven wrong.

I think best way to look at these is the rating is the team's average for the season. Sometimes teams play above average and sometimes below average. Trying to measure what high school kids are going to do is not easy. If two teams rating is 7 points or less apart, the difference in a game could be one or two plays or a turnover. Maybe if two teams play 10 times, one might win 6,7, or 8 times which means in a 1 game sample the other team could win.

Looking at College ratings, Louisville beat Notre Dame handily but every ranking has Notre Dame higher than Louisville. Pitt beat Louisville and they're still below Louisville. No 100% system.
