My sophomore year we (Shelby County) played at Oldham County and got coins thrown at us, it was 1968, and I think I got a little over 1.50, good money back then. It was over such an important thing that I have no idea what it was now. That was basketball though. I do think your right that foul language is much more common place now, reflection of our society.

Chesney just handed us a custom made soundtrack that will be played in every banquet hall this winter with our own video clips. What a relief from blasting audio that parents cover ears of small children , due to innappropriate words, which in reality have nothing to do with football. I don't view this as commercialism at all, but an opportunity to highlight one of the best things this country represents.

I think an important game or event will trigger the name that sticks, some reference in an article somewhere will play out, kinda like "they fought like Wildcats", for University of KY. Some event will put them in the public eye and it will become their recognized name. I will vote for Collins, much in the preadmentioned Covington Holmes saga.

DragonFire is right about Edmondson County. Had a couple of players sick and Glasgow beat them. They would go on to win the state championship and prevented the tournament from changing to multiple classes which was the hot subject at the time. After they won it was a consensus, this is a unique and wonderful tournament, leave it alone.

Additional comment of LIT ratings, we beat two teams rated in top ten in one week and dropped.....

As given in the thread on the girls basketball side, the NCAA has every statistic known to man, and they still have controversy in selection and seeding. Its the best tournament in the nation, leave it alone

Seeding in Districts is based upon interdistrict play, thus the ability to seed.

The KY High School Basketball Championship for girls and boys is the best show in the United States for high school basketball. Anyone who ever participated will tell you it is special to know you are a true STATE champion, not something based upon geography or size of your school. I believe we are the last state that has one champion with the last holdout, Indiana, who wishes they had not switched. I hope this never changes. I also think the seeding would be an extension of weighing larger schools against the small. The most scrutinized tournament, the NCAA mens tournament, has difficulty determining seeding, and actually seeing who the best 64-65 teams are despite research and information comparable to NASA. Despite this the Monday after the NCAA picks come out, the talk shows are full of debate of who got what seeding or left out of the tournament. Do you think you can determine Betsy Lane, Reidland, and Ryle strength based upon local writers or comparative scores? Would seeding bring out horrible mismatches, remember in Mens NCAA a 16 has never beat a 1 seed, in Womens Harvard once beat Stanford. Some of the best games you ever see are between some of the LIT ratings smaller schools, wanting to say 'remember the year we won a state tournament game. The atmosphere is electric to anyone who attends. Diddle Arena is perfectly designed for the Girls Tournament. If you have not attended the final game, you owe it to yourself see what a unique experience this is. Having the tournament in a town that recognizes the event, makes it special as well. Its fun to go into a restaurant and see all the schools and fans. It gives the kids a good feeling to be recognized. I'm pumped and look forward to what each year is a unique tournament with different matchups and the colorful history that is written. Nothing wrong with wanting the best formula for these kids, To change the format would be like Coke changing their formula, uhm, that didn't work out too well did it.

I attended a physical therapy conference last year, and the discussion became focused on the change to one sport athletes. A major clinic reported the athletes they are seeing are typically the best of the best, but unfortunately this is from overuse, not taking any time off. Those who remember the late 60's and early 70's may remember Coach Mitchell Bailey, basketball coach at Shelby County. He also coached baseball. He was assistant with Bill Harrell winning the state championship in 1966. He was assistant under Coach Herky Rupp, and then in 1969-1970 took over as head coach. Despite a small team(6'2 tallest) he led his first team to the state tournament. We all appreciate coaches who are overlooked for their talent, their commitment, and their ability to change/challenge individuals. He was not only a great x/o man, but had the ability to find that special trait within ourself. He was a TOUGH US history teacher, but I wish kids now had him as an instructor, we might appreciate our past. He once said he gave an apple to anyone getting a hundred on his exams. He had given away six in 1970. He also gave a candy bar to the person getting the highest score on his big test. I still have my wrapper.......I definitely still have his philosophies. He let me drive his beautiful car to get hamburgers and drinks for the freshman team that was leaving, on way back, a car pulled in front of me. I wasn't used to real brakes, and they instantly locked, sending the Orange Drinks in the back seat into the floorboard. I'm sure that still today, if you put your foot on those mats it would feel like super glue. But he never raised his voice. We went to the state baseball tournament in 1970 and true to form, school had finished for the year. We continued to practice, and after practice since the school was locked, we put our bats in his car. The practice before the first state tournament game, someone put them in the school. Yes we went to play Valley in the state tournament, and had no bats. I think he did yell a little that time. Most people on this board, know the positives of the argument of the benefit of athletics in high school. I'm sure each of you has a person who has made those times special. Don't be afraid to tell them. Even if they already know.
