With a talented corp of athletes to choose from and a great head coach, Jerry Lucas, I look forward to a successful first year for the program.

Sheldon Clark opens the season at M.L.C. and I am worried to say the least. The type of athletes this team will be able to put on the field will be hard to match for most teams, espically Eastern Kentucky teams.

They should be a powerhouse for years to come. Shelby West traditionally has some really really good athletes.

They need to make sure they have big numbers and I think they will. Should be fun to watch.

Defeat the cross town rival Shelby County.......

Shelby County/Shelbyville. 20-30 miles east of Louisville off of I-64.

If they come out .500 that will be a successful year for the new school. They will be in a district with a lot of size. They will have some speed, but I don't see them being very big. Should be fun to watch it evolve. Good luck Titans.

Good question, ColonelMike! Personally, I hope that they go by the full name or MLC.

In today's society everything is shortened. I'm thinking both Collins and MLC will be used.

Ashland is "Ashland Independent Schools", but each school in the district has a separate name, for instance the High School is "Paul Blazer". Now Ashland used to have several schools, like Louisville and Lexington, so Ashland Schools was called Ashland Blazer, and Holy Family was called Ashland Holy Family, even though it was not part of the Ashalnd Independent School District. It got the Ashland from the city not the school. This was in similar fashion to "Louisville St. X", "Louisville Male", and the like.

 

No one in North-Eastern Kentucky calls Ashland, "Ashland Blazer", Ashland is just called Ashland.

 

Paul Dunbar is actually called Paul Lawrence Dunbar, a lot of people just shorten it to Paul Dunbar, or just Dunbar.

 

As for what Martha Layne Collins will be called, I expect it be commonly referred to as "Collins". But, that is yet to be seen.
