There are "if onlys" in every game both ways. No need to play that game. The game could have been much closer "if only" Ryle did not hand the ball over in Birds territory 3 times early. The score was what it was. Ryle will improve drastically over the season and the Birds will improve to a lesser extent (they are that good already). It will be another good year for NKY football with a number of teams that get pretty darn good by the end of the year.

Dixie will have a good year and in the world of woulda, coulda, shoulda, this is a game they probably win under the lights. It had to be hotter on the field this morning than it would have been last night. If the Beechies don't win 1A, I will be shocked. They'll have a bunch of boring games and must guard against complacency.

Congrats to the Birds and Coach Mueller on #200. Is that correct - #200? Can't turn it over in your own land and have success against an excellent team. I was impressed that better conditioning by one team vs. the other was not a factor. We just got beat by a better team but showed heart for 4 quarters. It will be difficult for any NKY team to hang with the Birds this year as they pursue a state title. I am optimistic about Ryle's chances for success this year. Good luck to both teams.

Was wondering the same thing about a later start. I have not heard any chatter about a change but I would assume the 2 coaches, ADs or other school officials would need to make a decision tomorrow. I'm sure the boys on both teams could care less about start time. They are all ready to play.

Ryle welcomes an excellent, well-coached football team to town on Friday. I'm not sure how you could expand on such a statement. Grandma Mueller is a darn good coach IMO.

I am really surprised at how most BGP'ers think this will be a blowout. Just don't see anything but a great, hard-hitting battle and close ball game at Union.

The S32 rankings make no sense to me. Campbell is an upper tier NKY team. Raiders return a lot and are jelling quite nicely, thank you. To rate CovCath above Ryle right now after the head to head scrimmage where CovCath gained 4 yards of total offense is a real head scratcher. Campbell not in the top 10 and Ryle at #10 with some of the other teams you rated above them???? You asked for a fire back, I fired.

Yes. Even though he is a great h.s. player, there are lots of stud players out there across the country. I hope he does reach that goal, but, it takes some breaks and good fortune plus lots of hard work and avoiding the injury bug.

I'm pretty sure that Noel would laugh at the notion that this is Beechwood's best team ever. They are top dog in 1A this year - all of us agree on that.

TOG, Ryle got literally killed last year in the scrimmage vs. CovCath and looked terrible. Not sure what you are remembering but your statement is totally incorrect. This past Saturday, CovCath had 4 yards net offense, 1 or 2 first downs, 0 completed passes, no sustained drives yet Ryle moved the ball, completed passes, had first downs and looked almost as bad. Interesting that you say the Birds will name the score vs. Ryle in the season opener. Have a great week!

IMO, he would have treated him the same way he treated Vince Murray. Remember, Corey is a 1-way all-star. Vince Murray was a 2-way all star and player of the year in Northern Kentucky. So, I believe he would have treated both athletes the same. He would have said that he expected Corey to be at mandatory practice. If not, he would go on without him. Tough but equal policy for all and I certainly see both sides of the coin.

I totally understand your thinking for multi-sport athletes and I understand coaches that want their players to be present once mandatory practice begins. I know that Vince played summer baseball until dead period was over in mid July and then he quit to be there at mandatory practices. To the best of my knowledge, Coach Warner has stuck to that philosophy for multiple-sport players, even very good ones like Vince Murray. I really believe he would have treated Corey the same way as Vince because I have not seen Coach Warner play favorites during the 4+ years that I have watched him operate.

It was not the HS baseball team but rather a summer baseball team. The Ryle team ended in mid-June due to their success and, obviously, players are expected to finish the season. A good number of football players played baseball on the frosh, JV and varsity teams and they are playing football this fall. Coach Warner expects kids planning to play varsity football to be present once football practice is mandatory in mid-July. So, kids need to make a decision about whether to play baseball past mid-July or choose to play football. There is nothing wrong with that. Life is about making choices and this expectation is fair.

CSHS is correct so much of the time it is scary. I agree totally with him as usual.

I know for sure that Ryle's policy under Coach Warner is that players are actually encouraged to play whatever sports they can. However, they are expected to be at football once the mandatory period begins. It's called commitment to the team. Commitment has led to success at Ryle and will continue to do so this year. Ryle will not experience a dropoff from last year's level of play. People doubted them last year and people already doubt them this year. Good news - the Raider players don't doubt themselves or their coaches.

I agree with you that Murray had good size and strength that is not easy to replace. So, Ryle reloaded just like all other teams have to do. More of a balanced mix of passing and running will make the Raiders harder to defend this year IMO. We'll certainly know a lot more as scrimmages and opening games play out.

Bad news for Campbell based on your assessment: Ryle's line is bigger and better than last year's line with 4 returning starters and averages 260 up front. They will not be hurting at RB either. Plus, having a third-year starting SR at QB is a very big plus for Ryle. Plus, Ryle has an excellent PK again this year that can hit FG's from 50+. District games will be great this year. I don't see any easy games like in the past. I really like Ryle's chances to go a long way again this year.

Congrats to Dunbar. The Dawgs and Lex Cath were neck and neck as far as the two best teams in our state this year IMO. You earned the title after surviving Apollo.
