Congrats to Dunbar. The Dawgs and Lex Cath were neck and neck as far as the two best teams in our state this year IMO. You earned the title after surviving Apollo.

The kid from Shelby Co, (#6) did a good job one time around. In the third however, he was pounded for 9 runs. Dunbars pitcher carried a no hitter thru the 4th inning throwing 95% fastballs consistently at 84MPH. Shelby had trouble with the fastball.

 

If we would have scouted them better over three or four games, I think Weis could have beat them. But who has the personel to scout four or five teams at the same time for a week or two.

Congrats to Paul Dunbar H.S. on State Baseball Champonship. That is a great accomplishment that you will always remember and no one can take away.

Another thing, we were told the gun at Applebees was about 3 mph off, so really he was throwing about 87 through the whole game.

Wow does that mean the Webb kid from Heath was consistantly around 95mph. Webb was the best pitcher I seen this year and the 1st Region representive didnt even know his name. "What a shame"!

The gun at Applebee's Park was about 2-3 mph fast a few years ago. Now it's about right on. Webb has been clocked at 95 once, last summer, but the gun on Wednesday night had his last three fastballs at 88-90 in the seventh inning. Considering that he was throwing with a broken foot, Webb surely wasn't throwing 91-93 at that point.

It looked like Royse was throwing harder than it was showing. I also heard somebody say that the radar gun wasn't accurate.

I just have a question...

 

I was at the Shelby and PRP game on Friday, I stuck around long enought to watch players of the year for each region and then the infield. I witnessed something that I had never ever seen before in my life during infield. The coach was hitting ground balls and the kids were throwing them to first. The coach hit one to third and the 3rd baseman just unleashed on one, I thought it slipped or something out of his hand...but I kid you not, the ball sailed over the Budweiser tent and into the parking lot on the right field side. Did anyone else see this? Is this part of the Dunbar pre-game infield?

What is Royse's normal velocity?

 

I wasn't there so I don't know for sure, but I would assume it's possible that Royse wasn't throwing as hard as he usually does since he had pitched an inning the night before.

I have been told for several years that the posted velocities on the scoreboard generally run about 3 miles an hour slower than what scouts will show on either a JUGS gun or a Stalker.

 

I have gunned pitchers, and have seen many others gun pitchers over the last several years and those descrepincies are about what I have witnessed as well based on either what my gun read,what other guns close to me read, and/or my knowledge of where a certain pitcher normally throws.

 

 

If there was not a question in ones mind about the acurracy of what was posted, then why would any scout choose to use their own guns? If they felt the posted velocities were correct, there would be no need in it.
