I do understand the decision to save Cox for the finals and probably would have done the same thing if I was coaching PRP. Not a lack of respect for Shelby, just having confidence that your guys would score 8-10 runs off Shelby's #2 and having equal confidence that your #2 or #3 could limit Shelby to a few runs. Obviously, anyone can second guess the calculated risk.

We did not play like our record tonight and all credit goes to the SC pitcher, who kept us looking very bad all night. Congrats to the Rockets. You were the better team for a night and that's all that mattered. Great job, Raiders, this season, and don't beat yourselves up thinking about what went wrong tonight. That kind of unexplainable stuff just happens in sports where Cinderella bites you in the rear end some times. You are an awesome bunch of young men and we stand behind you win or lose!

Vince Murray from Ryle starts at third base on the baseball team headed to the final 8 at Applebee's. Not sure about a replacement.

:thumb: Greenwood is very good and it would have been a great battle had both teams been rested. They were the better team this year, especially by 7:00 p.m. with Ryle playing so many games and the Greenies deserved the championship this year. Congrats to Greenwood. Ryle and Greenwood would have to be the two faves heading into next year.

Errors were not the real story of the night as Somerset probably made 3 and Ryle made 2. Ryle absolutely pounded shot after shot all night with a dinger and probably 7-8 other extra base hits. Even a lot of the outs were shots right at people. I would guess that Ryle had 16 hits, maybe a season high. Congrats to Somerset on a very good season.

I think he is talking about runners on 1st and 3rd and the runner from first starts to walk off the bag to intentionally provoke a rundown to try to allow the runner from third to score.

Vince Murray hit a one-hopper off the fence in right center. Ryle forced Somerset to make plays in the 4th and 5th innings, which they did not make, and the Raiders were very aggressive on the paths. Good to get a leg up on the Jumpers.

Ryle played once at St. Henry this year.

Worst first round draw award goes to GRC. I bet this will be a fine series even though Dunbar is the heavy favorite. Good luck to both fine ball teams.

These things you say are true. Should be some interesting softball down state. Go Lady Raiders!

Hopefully, some other locals can give their opinions, too. Here's my 2 cents worth: I would guess that all prime seats would be locked up by 6. Other seats should be available until 6:30. Seats along the outfield would be available all night. Some places to stand are available all night. I would guess that the first 500 people would actually get decent seats. I've heard of unhappy campers and now unhappy jumpers. If your son is playing, I would recommend arriving by 5:30 to get the better seats.

For whatever reason, Ryle did not play well for the 1st 6 innings vs. CovCath so I understand your viewpoint. I look for the normal Ryle team (the 7th inning team) to show up vs. Somerset and the Raiders to take the series.

Ryle's catcher is above average for high school but does not have a rocket. He blocks the ball well and releases fairly quickly. The Ryle pitchers do a pretty good job of holding runners on and getting the ball to the plate quickly.

I think you will see less student support simply because school is now out and kids are going their different ways. And, CovCath has a huge following. So, the crowd will be much smaller than the regional final. Plus, there is not a rivalry between Somerset and Ryle. In addition, the very nice location at Freedom entices a crowd. Lots of people won't go to St. Henry because they can't afford to spend two hours waiting for the game to start just to get a good seat and they are not interested in standing down the outfield line to watch a game. Absolutely no knock intended on St. Henry, it is by far the best place to watch a game of any NKY high school stadiums. H.S. fields/stands are designed to accommodate regular season crowds, which are small. I'll be there, but won't arrive in time to get a good seat. Should be great baseball.

Looks like a great series to me. Each team only stubbed their toe once during the year to a team that did not end up with at least 20 wins. Hopefully, the Raiders got their sloppy game out of their system with the thrilling come-from-behind victory vs. CovCath. Two base running mistakes and several errors were not typical for the year. Sounds like Somerset likes to run. They lost back-to-back 1 run games to Tates Creek and Dunbar in April so I am expecting two very good baseball teams to match up at St. Henry. Good luck to the Raiders and safe travels to the Jumpers!

I meant to bring up a question the other day and forgot: Why do the CovCath crazies not get involved in baseball? They are so much fun to watch in basketball and I expected to see them in full force at the regional final. The CovCath students seemed passive and that surprised me. The Ryle students really supported their team and I think it helped to build momentum during the incredible rally in the bottom of the 7th.

It was foul when it left the park, no question a bad call. Umps did a great job overall but were questioned heavily on two plays during the game as Krumps and Roesel unloaded on them.

I don't think there were many opportunities for steals against him in the 3 games. Dustin only had a couple of small blips in the tourney and did a great job at the plate. I think he was the best choice for Ryle's MVP.
