GRC will take on #1 team in the state in the Semi-States Best-of-three series at Tates Creek starting Wednesday. GRC record is 34-4 and winner of the 10th region. PLD is 33-5 and winner of the 11th region. What are your thoughts on this match up?

This series is going to be GRCs sternest test of the year by far.

 

GRC may have a gaudy record, but they only played two games against Lexington teams before this, losing 15-3 to Henry Clay and beating Bryan Station 3-2. They played no games against teams from Louisville. Their other losses were to a team from Florida, Bishop Brossart, and Rowan County. Two wins over Harrison County and some wins in Florida however, show that they can beat teams that are typically strong.

 

Dunbar's similar record was built on a brutal schedule. Not only did they play the most difficult district schedule in the state by being in the 43d district, they played Beechwood 3 times, Trinity twice, Ballard twice, PRP, Male, and a couple of top teams from Missouri. Playing those types of teams week in and week out is a huge advantage at this stage of the tournament.

 

Having said that, the key for GRC to win is to jump out ahead of Dunbar. If they fall behind Dunbar, Dunbar's pitching is far too strong to mount a comeback against. Also, GRC cannot afford to make errors, because Dunbar's team speed is second to none, and they run the bases aggressively. Dunbar likes to jump on teams quickly and once they get things rolling, they are difficult to stop.

Is Clark coached by the same guy that used to coach at Deming? Name sounds familiar,if so how did he get to Clark(being such a hugh school)? Thanks.

I don't believe they do, at Dunbar.

Evan Bennett for Clark is an impact player on the basketball team for Clark. I think he hit a buzzer beater shot in the regional finals to send Clark to the Sweet 16.

The 2007 10th region champion baseball players that also were members of the 2007 10th region champion basketball team are:

 

Senior Captain Josh Wood (Center Field)

Junior Evan Bennett (Shortstop)

Soph. Patrick Bailey (2nd)

Soph. Jarran Thomas (Outfield)

 

Josh Wood ( Woody) started for the Cards. Evan Bennett is the"little red-head" that did hit a 3 pointer to put the Cards up 4 points in the regional finals. He did not play in the game against Mason in the regular season, he had injuried his wrist. He did not start, but was the first sub off the bench and played a huge role in GRC's success this past year.

Partick Bailey and Jarran Thomas are both sophomores, they played JV and saw some varsity action.

 

The Cards will be a underdog in this contest. We were to Mason Co too in the Basketball regionals, and we won. The Cards will give their best effort and hopefully can pull off the upset.

Just a Note... Two of the four loses were when somebody other than the 3 regular starters pitched(brossart and rowan).

 

I think a lot of people will be surprised in this series. Both teams have good pitching and great defense so look for it to be exciting and closer than some might think.

GRC has had a great season but it will be 2-0 Dunbar in this series.

I can actually see GRC winning one game in this series, but only if, as I said, they can manage to jump out first. Dunbar's pitchers do not walk many, so if one starts uncharacteristically wild, that might give GRC the opening they need. However, I do think that Dunbar will win this series in the end.

I will go with Dunbar to win the series.

Did some checking ALL_IN and Coach Allison was at Deming for 14yrs. where he coached boys and girls basketball along with baseball. Actually sent a kid to Morehead and then drafted by Milwaukee Brewers. He then spent 8 yrs. at Harrison Co. coaching Girls Basketball and Fast pitch softball and was also an Asst. with the baseball team when his son was there. Then he has been at Clark Co. ever since coaching baseball and was the girls basketball coach for several yrs. then became an Asst. coach with the boys.

I'll take Dunbar to win the series, but I think it will be closer than people might think. GRC has a good club this year, but Dunbar is my pick to win the state title.
