There are two little leagues in Lexington, Gardenside and Eastern. As you said, there are three Cal Ripken leagues, Northern, Southeastern and South Lexington and there are VERY defined boundaries. The kids on that team all lived in a fairly concentrated area, I think they all could have walked or ridden a bike to Shillito Park easily. There are also three Babe Ruth leagues in Lexington, and 6 players from one of those leagues were playing for the East in the East/West All-Star game on Sunday.

The Cal Ripken team from Lexington has done pretty well for themselves. Of the 15 boys on that team, 11 of them were playing HS baseball in Lexington this year. Of those 11, 7 have won a state championship and 3 have a runner-up medal. There are 9 that are seniors this year, 4 of them signed early for D1 schools, (that were announced) and others might be going and just not announced. 6 of those seniors will be playing tomorrow in the Senior East-West Game. All in all, a very good team.

CCHS Dad...I have no problem with the throw to the SS in a 1st and 3d situation to catch the runner at 3d. That's a standard play and doesn't rely on infielders yelling at the runners, it's just a matter of catching a runner sleeping. However, this is a play solely designed to get a runner at first to think that the ball was popped up and freeze or run back to the bag by having the infielders yell that it is a pop fly. Like I said, before, bush league at any level.

Did it display arrogance or a realistic decision from a coach? If you know your ace is going to only throw one game, and you have two left, which do you start your ace against? A team that entered the playoffs with a losing record, or a team that has been ranked #2 in the state the whole year? To be sure, Dunbar saved their ace and it almost cost them, although the kid who did pitch wasn't their #2, he was their #3 or #4, and held Apollo to 2 runs, so it's hard to complain about that.

When Dunbar played Lexington Catholic at Catholic, the JV players dressed and sat on top of the dugout. I was surprised that the umpire didn't make them move (there were 4 there for that game, by the way). The chanting and stuff goes on from the dugout every single game.

Regardless of whether it is legal or illegal at whatever level, plays like that are one thing.....bush league. What you are telling your kids when you resort to plays like that is "we can't beat the other team straight up." That's the reason you won't see that kind of stuff when you watch the CWS or MLB this week.

Well, it's not going to be a run-rule game, which is good, I would hate to see Shelby go out that way.

Looks like we're on our way to that with the score 9-0 Dunbar in the 3rd. Has it ever happened before?

Given that it's 8-0 Dunbar in the 3rd, the answer to that would be....no.

Dunbar did not play their best, but they came through at the end of the game...it's going to take Cinderella to stop them tomorrow, and I think SC might have run out of help from the fairy godmother after tonight's game, since Dunbar's ace is ready to go.

Final, Dunbar wins in 6. Lucchese pitches a no hitter, Johnson Central makes 7 errors.

At the end of 2, it's Dunbar 5 - Johnson 0....another error, a passed ball, 3 hits, and Dunbar is cementing a lead. They play very well when ahead, so it's going to be an uphill battle for Johnson Central.

2 HBP, a walk and two errors, all after two outs, and Dunbar has the lead.

PD....chaz has had some strange outings this year, there was a streak of 3 games in May where he gave up 1 hit over 6 innings, 3 hits over 8, 2 hits over 7, only one earned run in all three of those games, and his record in those 3 games was 1-1. He's still figuring it out, I'm sure!

Nah, you aren't inept, I just had an advantage...I got to see him pitch from the time he was 11 until he graduated from HS.

I hate to correct you Pat Dad.....but Chaz Roe is a RH pitcher As for why Revere's bonus was less than Roe's however, you hit the nail on the head, he's a pitcher.

This is an excellent idea, if we can have double elimination tournaments for Little League and Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth, why not for HS baseball? It would be a better test of the teams' depth and resilience than the present system. It would, in my opinion, be worth shortening the regular season to do, although I would prefer that we get to start the baseball season in the middle of March rather than the end. However, I KNOW that they will never switch things to allow baseball season to begin before the basketball champion is crowned.

The system they use now has been in place since 2003. Every team that has won the title in the last four years has come from the teams that play on Wednesday, not the teams that play on Thursday. So, the teams to look for based on this will be PRP, Greenup County, Ryle and Shelby County. If this happens again, I think that the KHSAA needs to take a serious look at having all four teams play on the same day to start, whether that is Wednesday or Thursday.

That's right Lex33, what I remembered is that it did NOT work out well for LCA, I had forgotten that it did not occur in the middle of that game.

It rained really hard for a while, and sometimes, it rains way harder on one part of town than another. This doesn't really help Dunbar at all, the thing that would help them most is ANOTHER rainout that would allow them to pitch Royse again. On this day when Josh Ellis (former Dunbar pitcher) got drafted, it's good to remember the fortuitous rain that occurred when Dunbar won their state championship. They were in a tight game with LCA for the regional championship, and rain came when Josh was pitching and Dunbar was only up 1-0. Well, the game got rained out the next day, and the day after was Dunbar's graduation, so they had to play the game the NEXT day, which allowed Ellis to pitch again, and, well, you guys know the rest of the story.

Congratulations to Ben....he's a great kid and a great player and deserves all of this attention. That's 3 first round draft choices out of Lexington in the last 10 years, folks....pretty amazing!

I can actually see GRC winning one game in this series, but only if, as I said, they can manage to jump out first. Dunbar's pitchers do not walk many, so if one starts uncharacteristically wild, that might give GRC the opening they need. However, I do think that Dunbar will win this series in the end.

This series is going to be GRCs sternest test of the year by far. GRC may have a gaudy record, but they only played two games against Lexington teams before this, losing 15-3 to Henry Clay and beating Bryan Station 3-2. They played no games against teams from Louisville. Their other losses were to a team from Florida, Bishop Brossart, and Rowan County. Two wins over Harrison County and some wins in Florida however, show that they can beat teams that are typically strong. Dunbar's similar record was built on a brutal schedule. Not only did they play the most difficult district schedule in the state by being in the 43d district, they played Beechwood 3 times, Trinity twice, Ballard twice, PRP, Male, and a couple of top teams from Missouri. Playing those types of teams week in and week out is a huge advantage at this stage of the tournament. Having said that, the key for GRC to win is to jump out ahead of Dunbar. If they fall behind Dunbar, Dunbar's pitching is far too strong to mount a comeback against. Also, GRC cannot afford to make errors, because Dunbar's team speed is second to none, and they run the bases aggressively. Dunbar likes to jump on teams quickly and once they get things rolling, they are difficult to stop.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that Alvey wasn't playing baseball any more, might be playing football.

I haven't seen Jones on any of the prospect lists from Baseball America or Perfect Game, but that doesn't mean he isn't getting some notice. Going to a JUCO (and Logan is a good one, that has produced other guys who got drafted) will mean he's eligible to be drafted again next year, and someone might be advising him that he can do better after he shows how he can pitch in college ball first.
