In the Game

This is one of the best rivilaries in the state year in and year out in boys basketball, girls basketball and football. It always seems to be an exciting game in all sports.

That is from your perspective, but someone may see it the other way. It should be one good basketball game!

I had not heard this (I know LexCath has Owensboro Apollo for week 10), but I do know that they were to play in the Bluegrass Bowl and CovCath pulled out to play Cincinnati LaSalle.

What is the status on Lafayette's chance to play Hoover?

I think the clean is the best lift. What use does the dead lift have as far as being a football lift?

I don't know if they have completed the schedule yet. I heard they could have completed it by scheduling Lexington Catholic, but they declined to play Catholic in week 11. So, Catholic will host Owensboro Apollo in week 10 instead.

I saw Lexington Catholic play Lexington Christian and I would say LCA is a contender.

Ammons will be tough to replace! Who will be Ammons replacement? Will Coach Walker stay because there was rumors last year of him leaving to take a job in Alabama?

Ammons was an awesome high school football player. Does the winner always come from the weekly winners? The reason I am asking is that several top players from the Lexington area (for example Wes Caldwell (Lexington Catholic) and Chase Minnefield (Henry Clay)) were not gridiron greats.

Why are the CovCath people down on him? HE WON A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! He found what he would consider a better situation.

Catholic and Scott County are the two best teams in the state. LCA is good, but they should have won both games over Catholic and didn't. Catholic is a tournament tested team and knows what it takes to win it all. LCA will have a much tougher time come tournament to play with them.

I believe he learned the passing game at Lexington Catholic, where he was an assistant coach for a couple years, and then expanded on it.

It was Catholic's first game with a new QB, new head coach and new offensive coordinator and St. X already had a game under it's belt. Catholic moved the ball up and down the field, but made too many early season mistakes to get the ball in the endzone. Had Catholic played them at the end of the season, they would have scored on St. X. too. Don't take anything away from CovCath, because they made the plays when they had to (2 big interceptions)

You are exactly right. I believe both teams together ran over 160 plays. The last two games between CovCath and LexCath were played the same way. I believe the year before the final was 42-39. Two great high school football games.

When is Lafayette or any Fayette County team going to step up and play the one of the best programs in the state in Lexington Catholic, which by the way is only 2 miles down the road? They could make a lot of money and not not have to pay a lot on travel expenses. This would be a hugh game and would be a great rivalry.

Justin Burke should have won it last year. He was probably the closest to ever winning it.

Lexington Catholic needs a game. Work something out with them.

That is what the KHSAA gets for changing the brackets. Sure it gave someone else a chance to play in the finals, but honestly more people would have rather seen Trinity vs Male or Trinity vs St. X. Not taking anything away from Ryle, but the best teams were in the east bracket in 4A. Plus, the Thursday & Friday set-up didn't help.

That is very impressive, but Ammons only threw 10 interceptions in 362 attempts, which is also pretty impressive. Ammons also ran over 1200 yards. Heck, Tyler Hancock from Lexington Catholic only threw 9 in 316 attempts, so lets mention his name in that category. They are all great high school QBs!

I heard Ammons and Petrino may end up at Georgetown College together. If that happens, we will see who the better is because that QB will be starting.

Boyle should be battle tested come playoff time with this schedule. It is awesome to see LexCath and Boyle play again. They have played some of the best games I have ever seen.

This argument is sort of like comparing Tom Brady to Peyton Manning. Kaelin was probably the better QB as far as stats go, but Nick Petrino is the Brady of Kentucky High School football because he wins championships. I think Tyler Hancock from Lexington Catholic should be mentioned in the top 3 or 4. He had a great season and had to fill some big shoes to fill.

LexCath was really good at making teams play their game. Remember those mistakes can go the other way and JC could have made them and been down several TDs. Also remember, LexCath has been in those pressure games and they were the defending champs. LexCaths defense was better than you think. Remember JC gave up 35 or more to CovCath and that was a slow down game. The LexCath vs CovCath game was a shootout and neither team stopped the other.
