Continue to play the best schedule, although modify it a bit; Elder, St. X, & Watterson is murderer's row; a good Louisville school would work.

Continue to two platoon at the Varsity level; two platoon at the JV and Freshmen level; those levels are to develop as much talent as possible.

Look to develop more consistency on defense; giving up as many points to Highlands in the 1st game and to LexCath is unacceptable for a CovCath team.

Continue to develop excellent kickers; that is an incredible weapon at the high school level, or any level for that matter.

Start a flag football program at the youth levels that plays at CCH on the weekends; there are hundreds of kids in Kenton & Boone County that are on youth teams that NEVER see the field; they need to shown how fun football can be.

Encourage every Catholic school boy in Kenton & Boone County to continue their football playing and their Catholic education.

Cov Cath should get into the jr. high school football league. This will be a big expense, but it will get the kids in to their program sooner and spend less time on the freshman level of teaching the system. This is a great feeder program that has worked for years for New Cath and especially Highlands. Highlands has perfected the junior football program. I believe that is why year after year they have great freshman football teams. Their kids know the system and have played together. Boone County has also done a good job with their youth league. I believe this is the key to the future.

Holy Cross has made the investment and saw it pay off this year at the FROSH level. Those coaches said they spent much less time showing players how to get in a stance, how to hold a football, etc and could work on the finer points.

I have no idea how much of an investment it takes though. My guess is that CCH will continue to rely on the Spartans/Raiders/Bengal Tigers to send them players plus get other athletes.

A+ for Wildcat. Good view of the big picture.

Next year's kicker will be very good. He probably will not be at the level of the last 3 but still will be very good from what I've seen. He'll continue to get stronger (he's a bean pole now) but he has a good leg already. Working with Pop couldn't have hurt his cause.

FROSH: I agree with WC saying this level is about development of players even at the expense of winning some games here and there. You cannot have 60+ kids come out and only play 15. I have no idea how CCH's frosh coach thinks as I've not watched them play in a while.

I agree this level should be about development with less empahsis on the wins/loses. This year though should have been all development as I understand of the 42 players on the team, only 14 had played football previously.

A one dimensional Birds team scored more than they should have in the first game, but this year's game with LexCath was destined to be a track meet. The style of play the Knights played offense/defense with and the athletes they put on the field meant it was going to be a high scoring game.

You might run into a little problem with the flag football league on weekends since Cov. Caths. home games are on Saturday. The Fort Thomas Jr. league plays all day on Highlands field on Sat. They start around 8 in the morning and end around 4. When there is a JV game, we work around it but sometimes we don't get out of there til 6 or 6:30. Makes for a long Saturday.

Speed kills. Ask OSU.

Adjust to yet another system for this year's offense. Learn it fast.

Also they need to find a leader. Only a few players got significant Varsity time (Buckley, Brueggeman, Schulte, Jacobs)

No one should EVER be able to run the ball down the Colonels throats the way Highlands did.

A sound passing defense can shut down an offense, or at least make them take time to drive it down the field; in high school, if a defense does this, high school athletes are more likely to make a drive stalling mistake; heck, that even happens at the college and pro level (I think the key is to mix up the pressure on the QB-sometimes rush 3 and drop 8, other times rush one more than they have blocking and drop the rest, and every other combination in between-if Peyton Manning can be confused at times, then so can a HS QB).

I realize good offenses are going to score at times, but Lynn Ray would never have a defense with that talent, give up 40+ points (I realize they would never have scored 49 either!)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those Saturday games only after the daylight savings time change?

To promote CCH and get more kids involved in the joys and lessons of football, working out a plan for those few weekends would be worth the trouble and CCH football would reap the benefits!!!

Beechwood shut down CAPE's speed in 1984, and they had more than any HHS team ever dreamed of!!!!!

CCH handled BG's speed!

My comment was directed towards CCH's D against LC. LC's passing game and its speed are different than a Carlos Snow/Vinnie Clark running game speed.

BG, while considered fast, was nowhere near LC's speed.
