No one should EVER be able to run the ball down the Colonels throats the way Highlands did.

I agreed with this point. The Birds did not do so in the rematch.

A sound passing defense can shut down an offense, or at least make them take time to drive it down the field; in high school, if a defense does this, high school athletes are more likely to make a drive stalling mistake; heck, that even happens at the college and pro level (I think the key is to mix up the pressure on the QB-sometimes rush 3 and drop 8, other times rush one more than they have blocking and drop the rest, and every other combination in between-if Peyton Manning can be confused at times, then so can a HS QB).

I realize good offenses are going to score at times, but Lynn Ray would never have a defense with that talent, give up 40+ points (I realize they would never have scored 49 either!)

Did you see the LexCath game? They were much faster than BG. I can't recall CovCath playing a team designed like LexCath during the Ray years. Short passes could go the distance on one missed tackle at any time. No other team CovCath played this year had that ability. On defense the Knights played 10 in the box and challenged you to score. Either you did or didn't, but either way the offense wasn't going to have long clock buring drives to keep the Knights off the field. While not the preferred way to play football in NKY, that strategy nearly worked for the Knights, the second best AAA team I saw this year. Could the Colonels have playe better on defense? There is always room for improvment when you give up 49 points and 500 yards of offense, but a talented LexCath team earned most of those yards.

It will be interesting to see how the offensive schemes change. Buckley will be the #1 weapon. This will allow the new qb to get settled and not have to carry the offense early in the season.

Replacing 18 to 20 seniors is a major task and the schedule is unforgiving on the newbies.

Granted it was their 1st game of the year, but X shut LC out, and I thought CCH was better than X.

Maybe you thought wrong.

You are exactly right. I believe both teams together ran over 160 plays. The last two games between CovCath and LexCath were played the same way. I believe the year before the final was 42-39. Two great high school football games.

It was Catholic's first game with a new QB, new head coach and new offensive coordinator and St. X already had a game under it's belt. Catholic moved the ball up and down the field, but made too many early season mistakes to get the ball in the endzone. Had Catholic played them at the end of the season, they would have scored on St. X. too. Don't take anything away from CovCath, because they made the plays when they had to (2 big interceptions)

Maybe you thought wrong.

Maybe X's dismantling of LexCath was due to it being LexCath's first game under a new coach.

CovCath did beat Bowling Green worse than X did.

There is no way that BG can be considered to be faster than LexCath. The wideouts for LexCath had blazing speed. But, Joseph C. for CCH was hurt and played hurt during that game. I am not saying that one healthy cornerback can make a difference but, it couldn't hurt.

Also, you can't gauge how good a team is from there first game of the season because the good teams peak in the playoffs. So, I agree that if LexCath played X later on in the year they would have lit up the scoreboard.

Is CCH's Coach Rodenberg still going to be the head coach for the Colonels next year? I read these stories about him going back to Ohio. What's going on?

Just curious...Has CCH's kicker from this year signed yet?

The kicker has not signed yet. He is at Wake Forest today on an official visit.

I am hoping this weekend is Christmas and we can put this game to rest.

ND has pulled out of the hunt last night when their big running back declared for the NFL.

Those stories seem to have all originated in Ft. Thomas strangely enough.

Going to be a very interesting year next year and specifically early. Lot's of new names as 19 out of the 24 starters graduated( I'm including K and P for those wondering about my math).

Buckley will be the star of the show and look for great things from Pat VanSant who will have to go both ways, VonLehman and Bruggeman at LB, Furnish at either Safety or QB if they go that way. Could take a few BIG lumps early with the VERY tough schedule including Elder, LaSalle and Louisville St. X.

True, very true. But there are a whole lot of CovCath people that I talk to that have the belief that Coach R. wants to get back to Ohio as soon as the right job opens up and its not a matter of "if", but "when". So you can some what understand why, when folks hear these rumors, they believe that there is some validity to them.

And I talk to Highlands people who, since they want Rodenburg to go, treat every wild snippet they hear as gospel truth. In the end, nobody knows for sure one way of the other.
