LCA led at the half and at one point in the third quarter were leading by 8. At the end of the 3rd quarter they were leading by 2. Before the start of the 4th quarter, an LCA player had a seizure and LCA was without her. Lex Cath led by 3 with 1 minute left and Anna Martin missed a three point shot that would have tied it. After that it was free throws, etc.

 

I would hate to be Lex Cath and maybe have to face this team another time in the postseason.

I can only surmise that LCA had more fouls called. Seriously, that is quite a dispariity. LCA did commit a lot of the fouls when LexCath either broke the press or were in the process of breaking the press. LCA pressed the entire game while LexCath played mostly half-cout defense for the second half. Perhaps someone with less bias than me saw it different.

Once again , LCA's coach cost them the game. His philosophy in both of their meetings was "if we cannot press them and win we will lose" . Totally pathetic coaching for LCA. Catholic basically played 3 on 1 basketball up until about 4 minutes left in the game.

In the first half the fouls at one point was 17 fouls commited for LCA and 4 against LC. Mostly due to the aggressive play from trying to press a team you aren't capable of pressing. Anna fouled out at 3:07 left in the game seconds before the LCA player had the seizure. LCA quit pressing in the fourth quarter after almost every single starter had 4 fouls and the rest of the game they couldn't play aggressively even in a half court defense. I may be a little biased but this LCA team has the ability to play with anyone in the state and should have won both games against Catholic. I didn't see the game against Henry Clay but the coach lost both games against Catholic

Those are some pretty harsh comments about a coach.

I agree that LCA has the talent to win against any team that I have seen this year. The fact that they're so young (starting a Freshman and three Sohpmores) could spell trouble for the Lady Knights not only later this year but for the next few years. By the way, I ran into one of the LCA players at the mall yesterday and she said the young lady that collapsed is doing fine.

The 3 losses: 2 close games to Lex. Catholic who is the number 1 team in the state and top team in the nation, and 1 game to a top 20 team (Henry Clay) and the coach is an idoit.

 

That lack of support is amazing. However, maybe that is why your current quality coach is the 3rd coach in what 4 years?

First off, I don't have any kids playing high school basketball, so he isn't my current coach. LCA's coach is probably a wonderful person with a great heart, but straight from his mouth to a couple of his players and one of the LCA dads was "we are going to press regardless if they beat it or not, so quit telling me about it".

 

I am 100% confident that the coach cost them both games against catholic, I have both games on dvd. This last game LC had 36 made foul shots, 90% of them came from LCA fouling on the press. At some point you have to back off and concede that you aren't good enough to press. I would also say that 65% of the time LC had a 3 on1 game.

 

I used to believe that 80% of the game was up to the players and 20% on the coach, and with my team its probably 90% players (they have a mediocre coach), but I really believe with most high school games the coach plays a lot bigger part of the game.

I have watched both games between Lex. Catholic and LCA this year. In both games, the LCA coach refused to drop the press. In both games, Lex. Catholic broke the press with ease scoring lay up after lay up. In both games, LCA players naturally got into foul trouble.

 

When playing most teams, pressing the entire game may not be a problem, however, if you’re playing a team that breaks the press each and every possession, and all of your starters are in foul trouble, don’t you think you should drop the press?

Catholic and Scott County are the two best teams in the state. LCA is good, but they should have won both games over Catholic and didn't. Catholic is a tournament tested team and knows what it takes to win it all. LCA will have a much tougher time come tournament to play with them.

It all came down to the LCA press. Catholic kept beating it and LCA kept fouling the Lady Knights on break away layups. Normally with such disparity I'd say the refs were bad but honestly the game was pretty evenly called.

 

I'll also support Coach K's comments about LCA's press. I think it played them out of a win. The entire game their starters were in foul trouble. It wasn't slowing the Lady Knights and in fact seemed to help them get over a poor shooting game.

 

I also heard that the girl who had the seizure w/ three minutes left in the game is doing much better. I've never seen a scarier moment at a sporting event.

I don’t have to be on the bench to know I would have switched to another defense. The LCA Coach didn’t even try different presses. Lex Catholic got into a rhythm and LCA’s starters kept fouling trying to stop lay-ups.

 

We all make mistakes as coaches. The best coaches learn from their mistakes, instead of being stubborn. 0-2.
