10 Good
  1. Wow, this must have been a strange game to watch.
  2. Good win for SK but they will have their hands full tomorrow with Montgomery Co.
  3. imo, the highlands team i saw last night wasn't any better than the highlands team i saw last yr. I have watched Boone,Conner,Notre Dame, and NCC this season and imo they are all 4 more than a handful for the highlands team i saw last night. Can highlands beat them and win the region ? Sure , crazier things have happened, this is girls basketball ! I wish Highlands the best of luck this yr. . I've enjoyed watching all of the "Cutter" girls play since they were 10.
  4. lots of fouls, probably 10-12 walks called, at least 10 jump balls, 1 technical calls were bad on both sides but when SK went up 16 , I think the officials really tried to bring the game closer. They called at least 4 fouls in a row that was rediculous.
  5. SK wins by 10. Ugly game on both sides of the ball. Sk was up 16 a couple of times but turnovers and missed layups and foul shots hurt them. Sk missed 6 foul shots in the last minute. If they were to play again I would say SK by 20. I thought HHS would really make a run at the 9th this yr. but after watching the game tonight I believe they are a yr. away. They are really young still but have alot of talent. HHS will be tough the next couple of years.
  6. I watched the game and I believe Catholic deserved the win. Natalie couldn't be stopped. Alot of fouls called against LCA that i didn't agree with ,BUT when a game is being called that way a team has to realize it and back off on the physical play. It will be interesting come march with both of these teams and Dunbar in the mix. I have to disagree with Martin being the best LCA player . She is a great player no doubt, but I believe Clifton does it all very well. I would have to take Clifton as my 2009 and Barnette as my 2010 player. (I may be a little biased.) Imo LCA has the best 4 girls to step on the court but they certianly do not have the best 8 or 9. The question will be , can LCA's big 4 carry them to another state title?
  7. Maybe the folks in Harrison co. don't know how to get noticed , haven't tried, don't care, etc.... but I can almost guarantee they could have had several kids go D1 and I know absolutely nothing about them. The sad thing for alot of young athletes is that alot of schools hire someone to coach them who know absolutely nothing about getting kids recruited nor care to spend the hours and hours it takes to do it. I had an athletic director tell me getting a kid recruited wasn't their goal or their job, "if the kids good enough they will get noticed". That is a terrible misconception. I am in an urban area. (at least more than Harrison co.)
  8. I don't know if people are saying it Never works , but I am saying there is a better way. I have 10 players and they all 10 have D1 scholarships on the table.(and they just began their junior yr.) We aren't a high school team so its a little different talent level but my point is there are 379 D1 schools, its not real hard to get a scholarship to one of them. Its harder to get a scholarship to the top 50, but the work is getting yourself noticed. Does that mean that because your not good enough to play for one of the big aau or exposure programs you cannot get noticed? Absolutely not, but you and your parents have to get to work on making sure the colleges know your there. They aren't going to notice everyone even at the National events. The work is on the parents and players because most coaches aren't going to do the leg work for you. He may be a great coach but getting 2 kids into D1 ball isn't saying much;) Maybe he should try a different approach.
  9. Trust me its not out of her element, she posted up some serious guards at D1 nationals and scored almost at will ! When things aren't working sometimes a coach needs to switch it up;) I do agree with you , they should have Smith playing more inside , although she is one of their best outside shooters. There aren't hardly any coaches in high school ball who teach guards to post up and do it in a game. With that said they don't really teach guards to play post defense either. If any of these coaches catch on to this philosophy in NKY they will have a completely new weapon in their arsenal. If you have a guard who is really good at posting up the other team will almost always do one of two things. They either try to play your guard with a big girl which always creates a mismatch on the other side or they have to go to a zone.( they may also have a guard who can play post d but thats not usually the case. Usually their good guard picks up a couple quick fouls trying to block shots:ylsuper:
  10. If you have ever had to say "why did i just say that to that kid for?", you probably need some coaching etiquette classes. I also don't understand fully , "the heat of the moment". At Div.1 nationals we had a team down by 18, they came back and had us down by 11, we came back and beat them by 10. I never once recall screaming at them, belittling them , cursing, telling them they suck or any of the above. Is this "heat of the moment" ,about the coaches ? I have seen numerous coaches get louder and louder the closer the game gets on the scoreboard, why? This is the time when as a coach you should be calm and let the kids know everything is ok. You have complete trust in them and just relax. If we lose so what, is winning a game worth hurting even one players feelings?
  11. I'm not putting Conley down whatsoever she is a very good player, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I don't think she is the best ball handler or defender and I think Coach Stowers should have made a change and was just outcoached. It would surprise me if Fookes would have moved Bradley over to guard Tolliver. BC doesn't have a guard Tolliver couldn't have posted up. Im not taking anything away from BC , they played to win and they did a great job ! Jacy and Katie did their thing and the younger girls hit big shots as well. I am sure they both learned somethings about themselves and each other. BC deserved to win the game and thats why we play the game. Looking at it on paper doesn't mean much in girls basketball.
