How do you all feel about the $300,000.00 the Commonwealth of Kentucky is giving to Fairdale High School to subsidize the building of a new football stadium with an 8 lane track? I think it's odd that this "community school" (with enrollment from all over Jefferson County) is struggling to raise the $110,000.00 balance to pay for this new "community center". That's how it is referred to in the official state budget according to the Courier-Journal. The article states the total cost is expected to be $500,000.00 and Fairdale has raised $90,000.00. My understanding is the Weston family is responsible for the state donation. Trinity cannot plan ahead with teams leaving and entering the district so often. The MBA game is set each year. The St. X game is set. Manual is the other non-district foe for now. We will not know our district schedule for 2007-08 until this fall. By then, many of the "big dogs" already have their schedules in place. The Cincy private schools have such a small conference schedule that they have many open dates to work with each year. The conference record doesn't get them in the playoffs, only their computer ranking. They get credit for every game they play and those results are weighted by enrollment of these other schools and the records of those schools throughout the year. Kentucky disallows any competition with out of state schools in the tie breaker format for making the KHSAA playoffs.

Looking forward to Trinity taking on the Briar Jumpers in May at Male High. I hope Mr. Sears makes the trip.

This is why you have an AD and a Principal to make these choices. If they deem a search committee to be helpful, so be it. Personnel situations are handled by administrators. Do you think the average person gets a vote on who their boss is in the workplace? You must learn to go with the flow or move on.

I have mentioned before the last time the football state final in 4A was played at Commonwealth, Trinity battled Henderson County. The attendance was OK at best. The city of Lexington didn't support this like basketball. The city of Louisville failed to generate the interest or $$$ to keep basketball here, so it moved to Lexington. Now, many folks take a whole week and spend it in Lexington regardless of who is playing. Can't say that same interest works in football. Football fans tend to support their team and not nearly as many folks will show up just for the sake of seeing who is playing....... The turf is a definite advantage for Papa John's. I believe all state finals/ tournaments are awarded via the bid process. Whoever can guarantee the KHSAA the largest slice of $$$$ is going to the host. If Louisville builds an arena, watch the bidding war for basketball to resume full force.

High School Football! Mostly night games! Almost always on Friday nights, thus easy to attend. Relatively inexpensive entertainment that becomes a weekly social event 11 to 15 weeks each year plus scrimmages My particular posse ranges from those in their 20s to those in their 60s with Trinity grads from every decade from the 1960s thru 2000s and a 1958 Flaget grad who adopted the Rocks once his alma mater closed. These are friendships for life.

Trinity won 4A and over all championship for the 5th time in a row:dancingpa 3A- Madisonville 2A- Trigg. co 1A- Russell co.

Yes, the QB is going to Marshall, I believe. Male is hurting at JV and Frosh levels. They aren't getting as many talented athletes as in past years because of stricter enforcement of their feeder school system.Via one of their assistants, I hear that Coach R is considering sticking around a couple of more seasons and then moving to another school and starting fresh.

In basketball, it's not that simple locally. Trinity and St. X would probably defeat at least half of the teams in the Sweet 16. To win the eastern half of Jefferson County is a little tougher. Just think of the public outcry if Trinity and St. X start winning in this sport as well.. You think it's bad in football, just wait for the day Trinity wins their first or St. X gets another basketball title ('62 was the last I believe). The year Trinity won their only 7th region title, I do not believe there was a NCAA division one basketball player senior in the region. Male, Ballard, Fern Creek....none of them had one to my knowledge. Lofton (now playing at UT) put us out practically by himself by forcing OT and then burying the Rocks.

Gentlemen, first of all, the private school feeder system in general turns out more football players in quantity and quality, especially since there are no cuts locally. Basketball is for "everyone" and the level of play is not as competitive as AAU or Metro Parks leagues. Locally, greater emphasis is placed on football in the private school arena. You don't have to be 6'8" to play football. You don't have to dunk or be able to make a 20 foot jumper. The private high schools simply do not attract the better athletes for basketball as well as football or baseball or wrestling, etc. The tradition of winning isn't there. If the privates ever do turn this corner, it will be more like Ohio, where private schools win across the board (Ohio does have many classes in all sports). As in other posts, football is more of a numbers game. Basketball takes two talented players and it's over in many cases. Sacred Heart had Carly Olmerod and Crystal Kelly and won three consecutive titles in girl's basketball. As soon as one was gone, they couldn't win their district! This year's district was redrawn(with Assumption removed) and Sacred Heart did make the regional final. BTW, one girl mentioned was a product of the usual feeder system and the other was not and created a huge outcry from several local schools when she received a legitimate scholarship to attend SHA.

He preceded Coach Beatty. He coached at Trinity for one year.

I was there in the 80's and the rock band was pretty cool , I can't remember the teachers name who was in charge but he is the one who made it work. Thanks for bringing back those memories

I was shocked Kevin Wright left Indy Warren Central to become the AD and Head Coach at Tulsa, OK Union High. They have 3500 students compared to the 5000 he had at Warren Central. They do have 6A football there and this school has won 3 of the past 4 AAAAAA titles. I understand from the Indy Star Newspaper his salary will approach $100,000.00! He left Trinity after one season because of family issues. I suppose those are all cleared up now.

Good news. The netting is temporary and will be removed after lacrosse season. The ball used for lacrosse fits through the fence. Bellarmine is playing several matches as well as practicing at Marshall Stadium in addition to the Shamrocks.

The KHSAA doesn't like that formula for some reason. Indiana uses it. The numbers appear on the KHSAA website. Sure, it should be based on male enrollment. I also agree that a multiplier like Indiana is considering for private schools (each boy counts as 1.5). Could bump LexCath and CovCath up a level or two. The single gender schools already have their numbers doubled based on the KHSAA formula in place now.

Well, it certainly changes what you see from the street. Passers-by won't be able to see anything from Sherrin Ave. It's black and mounted from the top to 4 inches or so from the bottom. It's well secured. Could prevent a potential accident from rubber-necking. I'll find out the "rest of the story" this evening.

Trinity has added wind screen to the wrought iron fence around their stadium. No more freebies by watching from beyond the fence!

Get Commonwealth some chair back seating and turf and then we can talk. Same goes for Rupp as far as seating goes. At least U of L provides a chair to every fan that purchases a ticket. As far as profit goes, the KHSAA is the one who wins in this situation which helps maintain lower membership fees to the schools at large.

Apparently so. Jeff Rutledge confirmed the Rocks game is still set! Nice of MBA to save Trinity extra travel time by playing in Lexington. Should make scouting fairly simple :thumb:

If Manual can get field turf or some other artificial playing surface installed by December 1, awesome! The KHSAA could always return to Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center and old Cardinal Stadium.....if the state would do some fix up work :thumb: Word from my KHSAA connection is no plan in place yet but there will be Championship football the first week of December.

Lexington would have to guarantee as many fans for the four games. The safety of the players is at issue as far as playing multiple games on a grass field. The KHSAA doesn't have a definite plan as of this date. The costs involved of using mutluple venues is part of what led the games to Louisville in the first place. Ohio does it because they have the popluation base to support their games all over their state. Indiana keeps them all in Indy for similar reasons as KY.
