Field/Facility Renovations for 2006??

Featured Replies

This time of year I like to hear about new Field/Facility Renovations that are going on across the state. New Staiums, Weight Rooms, Fields, Locker Rooms, etc.....Tell us about your school's changes.........

Im sure some have heard, but Mercer County has the construction of their new field house/indoor facility/weight room under way. It will be, without a doubt, the best high school facility in the state. As a matter of fact, it will be the third best overall in the state, behind UK and UL's. NO JOKE!! 40,000 sq. ft., 50 yds of turf(the stuff like UL, LexCath, etc. have), a walking/running track around the top, football coaches office, womens locker rooms, batting cages, the whole she'bang....

I heard that JC was going to be getting something but I dont know if it will be this next year or later on

Trinity has added wind screen to the wrought iron fence around their stadium. No more freebies by watching from beyond the fence!

Dixie is suppose to be getting a new football stadium with the synthetic turf and surrounded by a track, something they don't currently have. The last I've heard was the football field was going to get pushed back about 20 yards or so way from the highway. However, there's also be rumors that it'll take a 90 degree turn and run parallel with the highway. Along with the new football field will be new baseball and softball fields along with a new practice field. Construction is suppose to begin this year, but then again, it keeps getting pushed back.

When this happens, where will the softball team play?

Good question. I would think they would build the new softball field before building/moving the football field. The last plans I heard of called for moving the softball field over to where Caywood Elementary used to be. The baseball field is moving to where the old BOE building used to be. The biggest question after all of this is parking.

What will the look like around the exterior, I like it on a baseball field, trying to picture it at Trinity.

Owensboro Catholic will be partners with Kentucky Wesleyan College on their two year old "top notch" artifical turf field. Money has been raised and new press boxes, bleachers, locker rooms, lights, concessions, and even private sky boxes will make this one of the nicest stadiums to play in throughout Kentucky. Coach Edge had a lot to do with making this happen. Aces will begin play in their new home this year, 2006.

Well, it certainly changes what you see from the street. Passers-by won't be able to see anything from Sherrin Ave. It's black and mounted from the top to 4 inches or so from the bottom. It's well secured. Could prevent a potential accident from rubber-necking. I'll find out the "rest of the story" this evening.

Here's what I saw on an archetic's conceptual drawing.

If you know the property, Where the upper lot is now, (the old BOE location  ), there will be two ball fields. The baseball diamonds will be closer to Kenton Lands Rd. The present football field will be moved about 50 yards and diagnolly towards Dixie Lane (ie... if your standing front of the school, left to right diagnolly. Whether there will be a track is questionable though, I believe that they were trying to buy some additional land off of Kenton Lands Rd which will hold an additional football/soccer field and there was talk of putiing the track around that field. There is to be a softball field placed near Summit Dr. and Dixie Lane. Clear as mud now?

I went by the other day...well actually I've been by several times recently... ANYWAY...Although I understand not wanting the rubbernecking, I REALLY think it detracts from the beautiful fence! I thought the fencing was really nice, I liked the iron rail fence! I guess I wish they'd have built a solid wall bordering Sherrin Avenue, versus covering up the fence with the wind screen.

Here's a map so you can visualize a little better.

What's the reasoning behind two baseball fields? (and is there really enough room?)

Also, where's parking going to be?

That's what I wondered when I saw it. They do have parking in the concept as a road runs between the stadium and the ballfields. Starting where the Concession and ticket booth is presently and dividing the Baseball fields from the Football field. There will be a road on either side of the bball fields too from what I remember.
