Field/Facility Renovations for 2006??

Featured Replies

That's what I wondered when I saw it. They do have parking in the concept as a road runs between the stadium and the ballfields. Starting where the Concession and ticket booth is presently and dividing the Baseball fields from the Football field. There will be a road on either side of the bball fields too from what I remember.

Any word on when this will start?

Russell High School is renaming their field after it's legendary coach Ivan McGlone. They also just got approval to construct a "wall of fame" using laser engraved bricks bought by past and present football players, coaches, etc. Will be erected hopefully by beginning of season this fall.

Great for Russell. But what they need is a new field house. 40 yrs of football in the one they have now. Seems the $$$$$$$$ would be there by now????

They need a field house in the worst kind of way.

It appears that North Laurel finally had their practice field upgraded, resurfaced and leveled. From what I have been told, it should have been done years ago as it had become one big rock covered with a lot of little rocks surrounded by a few pockets of dirt and grass (complete with holes) and a desperate need of leveling. It sure seems that their new AD is a busy man. I hope that South Laurel gets some work done to their practice field as well. It seemed to be rock hard the last time I was on it. Not nearly as bad as North's, but in need of work.

I talked to a coach last week. They have started with the initial architect layout for the football field, marking the installation for the new turf and putting stands on both sides. They are hoping for a dry summer so they can be ready for the season opener vs. Highlands. Right now they don't think it will be ready by then which means either moving the game to Highlands and then having Highlands playing us 2 years back to back at home to make up the home-home series or maybe moving the game to Beechwood. Dixie then has scheduled 2 road games, then a bye, which gives them another month to prepare for the official grand dedication. It least it's coming together! :ylsuper:

A couple things i missed that my son told me Russell is also getting a new practice field beside the new Tennis Courts and yes i agree they do need a new field house the old one smells like crap I mean you expect that from a locker room but the lockers are pretty shabby and there just need to be more room. Although i heard there has been talk about.

It's my inderstanding that they are looking into putting turf on the field to try to alleviate the drainage problem. Then possibly go towards the fieldhouse. Talking possibly adding a second floor because when it was built it was designed to add a second floor.

I got to look at the plans last night for the new setup at Dixie.

Football: The field will be moved, and it will be angled like SM32 said. Basically, take the field and twist it about 45 degrees along with moving it away from Dixie Highway some. It will contain two sets of stands. One will hold 2,350 fans while the other side will hold 750. A new building will be built on the corner closest to Dixie Highway which looks as though it will contain concessions and locker rooms, possibly new weight room and offices. Not certain on that though. The field will be surrounded by a track.

Baseball: The new baseball field will be placed where the old BOE building was. It will be situated where left field will be Kenton Lands road. Therefore, a shot to left could land on the road. The fences are short at 310' down the lines and 350' straight away to center, and they stand at 8' tall.

Practice field: A practice field will be nestled between the football field and baseball field. This area will contain a goal post and discus area.

Softball field: The field will be placed where Caywood used to be. It will be lined up with the way the roads run, so home plate will be down at the intersection of Summit and Dixie Lane like SM32 stated above.

Parking: They're losing a lot. It looks as though a lot will remain where the small Caywood lot currently sits. This may be slightly expanded. There will be parking along the 3rd base line of the baseball field and next to the practice field. It's still not a lot though. If coming late to a football game, have fun walking from KMart.

I went by the other day...well actually I've been by several times recently... ANYWAY...Although I understand not wanting the rubbernecking, I REALLY think it detracts from the beautiful fence! I thought the fencing was really nice, I liked the iron rail fence! I guess I wish they'd have built a solid wall bordering Sherrin Avenue, versus covering up the fence with the wind screen.

Good news. The netting is temporary and will be removed after lacrosse season. The ball used for lacrosse fits through the fence. Bellarmine is playing several matches as well as practicing at Marshall Stadium in addition to the Shamrocks.

That makes a ton of sense! Whew! Thanks! :thumb:

Any news on Holy Cross Covington, I know that they just got a good amount of money for the facilities. Seems like this is a very drawn out process, and I'm sure the Indians can't wait to have a field to call their own.
