Dunbar vs. Montgomery Bell Academy

Featured Replies

Dunbar will open their season against Montgomery Bell Academy on Friday August 18th at Dunbar in Lexington. This should be a great game to open the 2006 football season.

Big game, should be a nice draw.

What does MBA bring back next year?

I could have sworn Manual would be playing them this year as well. MBA loves playing these Kentucky teams.

I thought the Rocks would be playing MBA as well. Will MBA travel to Lexington and Louisville the same month?

I believe we play them on the 25th.

Am I correct in that Dunbar will play MBA but not Lex Cath?

Thanks RM. The 25th is on a Friday. We've normally played them on Saturday night. At any rate, it appears MBA will be in KY for a few games in 2006.

Oops...well, then I'm sure I'm wrong! We played them on Sat the 27th in 2005...That would make it the 26th for 2006.

In his defense, Dunbar's coach isn't allowed to play Lexington Catholic.

I was critical of Dunbar because of its opening-game change last season, but they deserve credit for this one.

That's fine.

Seems ironic for Dunbar's administration or FCPS to prohibit playing a school who can't give athletic scholarships, but play a school who gives athletic scholarships.

Fantastic point!

While the Trinity series is fresh on the mind, MBA has a long history with Kentucky schools. MBA had a two-game series with Central Hardin in 1993-1994 and a four-game series with Warren Central from 1989-1992. MBA also locked horns with St. X in 1958-1959 and had some tilts with Paducah Tilghman (2 games), Manual (3 games), and Hopkinsville (4 games) periodically throughout 1914-1949.

I hadn't heard about this matchup with Dunbar yet. Thanks for the update.

The game was made just a few days ago. It should be fun.

Dunbar can play anone they want to Trinity, St. X MBA whoever. Lexington Catholic was boycotted but now that boycott is not as black and white as it once was.

Their have been games such as girls soccer who have scheduled Lexington Catholic in a regular season game and it's hard to say girls can play Lexington Cathoic in their sports but boys can't. It's a fuzzy issue. It's never happend but it will happen pretty soon.

Lexington Christian played Dunbar and Tates Creek in boys basketball this year so it isn't a private school boycott. It was a Lexington Catholic boycott and that's not set in stone now.

That's not what Westsider said:

What's the truth?
