St. X announces new assistant coach

Featured Replies

Coach Glaser introduced Rashad Harris to the team this week as the new DE coach. Coach Harris will replace Coach Bruner who is now the head coach at Nelson County. Coach Harris spent the last 2 years as a graduate assistant coach at Michigan State. He played 2 years of NFL Europe football for Barcelona after graduating from UL in 2001.

This looks like a great pickup for the Tigers. A great defense might get even better.

Some of the players said he still is in playing shape. Already pushing (and teaching) them in the weight room. First impressions from the players was very favorable. Could be a great addition to the staff. Especially helps that he is a former CARD:ylsuper:

Is Coach Harris an X alum?

Coach Harris is from Athens AL. He played football for John L Smith at UL.

What will coach Harris teach at X? Sounds like a solid addition.

Right now Coach Harris is slated to fill Coach Bruner's position in the Health and PE department.

Harris was a great player for U of L. He started from the day he stepped foot on campus. He played the game and carried himself, with class. He is an excellent young man.

Coach Bruner is a good coach. One I thought would be hard to replace; but, from the sounds of it, Coach Glazer made an upgrade in his coaching staff.

A great addition, hope he stays for a long time.

Isn't this a departure from the St.X tradition of promoting from within the family?

Not exactly.

Coach Glaser probably has hired more varsity coaches from outside his staff rather from within the past 15-20 years. Here is a list of a few. I am sure there are some more . .

Terry Bean - Oldham

Jim Wagner - Oldham

Rick Sorrells - Oldham

Lonnie Oldham - From a small college??

Rob Willman - Hanover

Willie Foster - Bullitt East

Pat Chitwood - Elizabethtown

Frank Espinosa - DeSales

Ken Wade - CSAA team???

Bart Bruner - Southern

The only frosh coaches who have bumped up have been Jay Stalberg (sp??) and Troy Johnson.

Although X often promotes from within, there is flexibility in this policy. For example, the Assistant AD is from T. Bart Bruner, the departing coach in this thread, was not an X grad. Of the 10 coaches on the staff listed at the X website, I believe either 5 or 6 are not X grads.

What is the norm at other schools? What mixture of alum/non-grads at high schools in the Commonwealth?

Interesting... I was always told that promoting from within was a strength at X. I guess that was just another urban legend. By the numbers you guys are posting, the Rocks have more "home-grown" coaches than the X-men.

I don't think for Coach Glaser it is about keeping it in the family. He focuses on finding men who know the game, have great character, and most of all are great people. I believe one of his strongest attributes is the molding of his staff. He has the ability to bring together a very wide variety of backgrounds and experiences and to get the most out of them year in and year out. He gives each coach control of his position while guiding them.

In regards to the "home-grown" coaches, I think there is a climate on the staff at X that molds all of the coaches together and they all leave there feeling "home grown".
