  1. Time will tell, but I heard Saturday that the #2 QB came in and threw for 4 or 5 Td.s in that game. They say the #2 is very solid, probably a little stronger passer. This late in the season the key will be the chemistry that is developed with the #2 guy. Many a team's dreams have been lost not due to the dropoff in talent but by the loss of chemistry. Good luck to the young man (Hurley). Good luck Bombers. Let's have "St.X - state champs" in Ohio and Ky!:thumb:
  2. Add: Brad Schmitt - Dayton Donnie Bowers - Navy
  3. It's good to hear that they are replacing the old Astro turf. I can't imagine anyone playing on that surface anymore. I have also heard they are going to do some renovations to the stadium. He'll be joining two other Tigers up there. Should be a great experience for him.
  4. I just heard Brad Schmitt, defensive end for the Tigers, has accepted an invitation to play for the Dayton Flyers. Word is they are looking to possibly move him in to defensive tackle. Dayton is a great school and with a very good football program. Should be a very good fit for #83. Good Luck and Congratulations Brad!!!
  5. Yes, he's high profile, but I know some of the other kids playing in this game have either high interest from schools or offers as well. They are all taking some degree of risk to play in this game. But, it's his own choie as to play or not. I did hear he has another option for how to spend his day. That just opens up an opportunity for some other young man to have a big day and help himself on the college scene.
  6. Haven't seen a roster and have not seen the full layout of how the teams are divided but do know that Male, Manual, PRP and others are on the west and that STX is with Ballard, Fern Creek, S. Oldham for the East. Don't know what other teams and how they are divided just yet. The organizers have contacted 40 some colleges and numerous media outlets to get word out for the boys that were selected to play. One more chance to 'strap em up' and play on the high school field. This is a nice reward to be acknowledged for all their hard work all season and a chance to show the college coaches that they can play at the next level. Congratulations to the boys selected. No injuries. Play hard. Have fun.
  7. Jeff Androla got a torn ACL and either strained or torn MCL. Surgery is going to be over the Xmas holidays. Hard nosed ballplayer and a great young man. I wish him well.
  8. What is up with you Trinity guys? There is NO chemistry problem with the Tigers. This group of seniors has come a VERY long way since the first half of their freshman year and they are a close nit group because of that. Not putting every facet of the game together does not indicate a 'chemistry' problem. Try another angle or let it go:mad: I agree with Ox that this group of players has all the ingredients to be playing on the last day and I agree that they have not fully shown their 'best team' on any given gameday. However, I believe that they will be ready to play from the beginning of the game tonight instead of spotting the Dawgs a half before they decide to play. Yes, the fast field would appear to favor H but it will also give the St X line a chance to get some traction in the trenches and stay on their feet when going after Gainey. Oh yeah, I think Vic will be able to run a little more effectively behind a line that is ready for redemption. Redman said this morning 'that there will always be an eye on Vic'. There are other weapons that can beat Male IF Glaser and Chitwood are willing to loosen up the playbook and be creative. If they do this , then Vic will eventually break one of his patented big plays. I predict the Tigers accept the challenge, step up , and beat the Dawgs in a close one. Final St X 24 (yes we hit a field goal!) - Male 21:ylsuper:
  9. First game Vic was a relative non-factor, the D-line was not given the green light to be aggressive till the 2nd half, and the offense showed no imagination until the 2nd half. Do you really think they will nuetralize Vic twice, much less on a fast field? IF the X offense and defense come out fired out and play a full game... the Tigers win the rematch:ylsuper:
  10. Exactly why the gold shoes shouldn't happen! Simple as that! Your other comparisons are not the same by any measure. If you are a Xgrad you should understand. For that matter, you don't need to be an Xgrad to appreciate the value in teaching young men the value of TEAM, not allowing this 'it's all about me' mentality. I'll agree with you only on the fact : WE ARE ST.X
  11. It should be an issue for you and any other fan of team unity and discipline. Maybe coach G gave his approval but I would bet a large amount that if ANY other player had shown up in those shoes he would have been told to 'get in uniform or sit and watch'. ( The other player in diff. colored shoes was the new kicker). What this is about is Glaser has spent the last 25 years preaching Band of Brothers(which is great!) and telling the boys and their parents 'it's all about team' and 'there are no stars' on this team. This allowance screams of favoritism and letting the star have his way and it should not be allowed to happen at St X. I guarantee the players noticed just like the fans. Consistency is one of the ingredients for respect and unfaltering allegeance. Glaser needs to tell Vic to get in uniform and play. I don't like all the calls for attention at any level and I sure don't like it at X.
  12. Wow!, Got to love the attention from the Trinity fans. I guess when you don't play anyone until the third round, you might as well place your interest in the district where there is some competition;)
  13. Get over it. This WAS a St.X - Male thread and I would like to get back to it. Trust me it's not all about Trinity. There are other games, and many other facets of life and high school football that include NO thought of your beloved rocks.:creepy: Now, back to the thread.
  14. I'm OK, for the most part, with most picking the Dogs in this one. BUT--- I think the X-Men are going to be fine in this game. In reference to some of Jimmmyref's and Ox's synopsis, I agree with the areas of concern. On defense: I believe the run defense will be just fine. They have stepped up for the most part all season. Yes, I know Highlands got good yardage and Phillips broke a big run against us but they aren't the 2nd best run defense in 4A for nothing. They swarm to the ball. The poor tackling can and will be corrected. One thing they must do this game is get to the QB on pass plays (it will help to have good coverage so he has to go thru his progressions)., My concern, also, is the passing game. Particularly the short and intermediate passes. I'm sure that is being addressed this week in the game plan. Coach Walsh usually does a good job with adjustments for Male. I think the D will do their part to keep the Tigers in the game! As for the offense, the O-Line has to step up and have a huge game. Give Vic and Duece a gap and they match Male's speed and athleticism and they will get thier yardage. Zoeller has to play smart. He can't get rattled because Male's D will put pressure on him. The play calling is going to be sooo important so as to keep Male off balance. Vic and Beumont on the same field---It's games like this that make high school football so much fun!! Regarding the various talk of negativity, team fire, lack of consistency ect., I've heard similar talk but I think Glaser should and will appeal to the seniors to rise to new levels of enthusiasm and intensity. They are a good group of kids who have had something to prove ever since their slow start Freshman year and they have come a very long way. I know the drive, talent and determination is there. Coach just has to show them he has confidence in them to lead this team. He will find a way to do this and the Tigers will step up and make it the game of the year!! No prediction on this one, just going to enjoy the show.
  15. All this green, you need to add a little GOLD with that to be in style... That would be me.
  16. Or is he pumping the Tigers up for a 'little game' to be played later in the month
  17. Kramer and Cecil were both very impressive and fun to watch! Great players and competitors:thumb: I think this game goes along way towards helping to get X ready to play the Rocks and Bulldogs. The Defense had not seen speed like that yet this season and as a result, maybe thought they were a little better than they are at this stage. I think the D will get a lot out of this as the Highlands line was certainly more aggressive and won the battle for the most part. By seasons end I think the X D-line and backers will be really good, but they learned a little about themselves Saturday. X O-line really stepped up in the 2nd half and made it look like St X football is supposed to look., Nice job guys. Overall, very intertaining and hard fought football game:ylsuper: . That's what I love about high school ball.
  18. Thanks! need to set the VCR (old school, I know..but I have ordered my DVR:D ) before we go up on Friday. We're going to have a loooong tailgate:ylsuper:
  19. I like your optimism but there is not a 'chance in hades' that Highlands an beat X "not haviving to throw the ball". In fact, I hope they go in with that approach, then I can relax and enjoy the game. Your O-line may be good but they will not dominate the St X D-line. To use your logic...they 'are not last years team' either. This line is bigger and quicker to the ball than last years line ever was. Also, the LB's pursue the ball incredibly well. There is a reason they have only allowed 97 yards total rushing in three games. Good luck trying to cram the ball down their throats----not going to happen. Enjoy your little world. It's all going to change Saturday afternoon.:ylsuper:
  20. I think this is a battle of strengths. HHS has been running the ball very well. X has not allowed anyone to run the ball. Who wins this battle? X does. The Tiger D may finally see a team put up some yards on the ground, but not enough. Their D has been very strong against some pretty good teams. HHS has a strong O-line so it should be a great battle, but X wins the battle on the line and they win the game. HHS defense has not seen anyone like Victor. The X line is coming together and opening holes for him. He only needs a gap and he's gone. Now that X has realized they can mix in the forward pass you can't focus totally on Vic. X wins this battle. Should be a GREAT game! :ylsuper: and the tigers win. Prediction comes later in the week.
  21. Another solid game for the Tigers. The offense seems to be getting into a good rhythm with mixing the pass and the run. They have some talented receivers this year with more spped than usual. Chris Wade throws a nice ball. I think having a passing threat for a change helps take some focus off Vic. He seems to run with more determination each game, he just refuses to go down, several times last night carying three or four guys with him. The defese is looking solid for early in the year. The secondary looked improved against the pass. I think they learned a lot from the LexCath game. Against the run , the front seven looks extremely strong. The D-line seems to be in the back field all night. If not for Lawtons quick feet they would have recorded a big number of sacks. Lots of pressure on the QB. At one point in the 3rd quarter Fern Creek had a -50 yards rushing. The d-linemen are getting better each week. The LB's attack the ball well. Still some serious issues with the special teams, notably, the extra point unit. A couple more botched attempts. This has to be worked out before the big games or it could cost the Tigers. Overall, another solid game. Still some issues to improve but really looking forward to HHS at Bengals stadium. Should be a great game.
  22. Trinity will win easily but not that big. Trinity 42 - 21.
  23. This is why we need it to be a blowout. So the special teams can get in more practice on a real goalpost instead of kicking the ball into the trees. Right now, I'm thinking 38-7 as a final. Offense continues to improve their game while the defensive secondary gets to work out the kinks and practice what they learned this week. I don't see the Creek doing much damage with their running game.
