Good Win. Defense and Offense played well. One let down on kickoff return and a fumble recovery for a TD after it was decided. Defense against the pass getting better, and GOOD against the run. D looked fast and all over the field. Pressure on the QB all night, nothing between the tackles and a posse of guys waiting around the corners. Offense scored 58 points. Enough said.

Another solid game for the Tigers. The offense seems to be getting into a good rhythm with mixing the pass and the run. They have some talented receivers this year with more spped than usual. Chris Wade throws a nice ball. I think having a passing threat for a change helps take some focus off Vic. He seems to run with more determination each game, he just refuses to go down, several times last night carying three or four guys with him.

The defese is looking solid for early in the year. The secondary looked improved against the pass. I think they learned a lot from the LexCath game. Against the run , the front seven looks extremely strong. The D-line seems to be in the back field all night. If not for Lawtons quick feet they would have recorded a big number of sacks. Lots of pressure on the QB. At one point in the 3rd quarter Fern Creek had a -50 yards rushing. The d-linemen are getting better each week. The LB's attack the ball well.

Still some serious issues with the special teams, notably, the extra point unit. A couple more botched attempts. This has to be worked out before the big games or it could cost the Tigers.

Overall, another solid game. Still some issues to improve but really looking forward to HHS at Bengals stadium. Should be a great game.

Except for a few miscues in the extra -point and KO coverage an overall good game. The offense is looking better and the D is really looking good. I love the "pickle" uniforms and hope we get to see them against trinity or male. The game this week against the birds will give us an idea of where this St.X team is right now. I can't wait to hit the road to Cinn.

I didn't get a reply on the other thread. What's up with the freshman kicker? Is Glaser looking for anyone to get the job done, or is the kid that good? Last freshman to play varsity for X was Dicky Lyons I think.

X's starting D held FC to -50 yards rushing....awesome.....After X emptied the bench FC finished with a total of 6 yards rushing on 26 attempts. Very impressive.

FC only had 91 yards passing for the game for a total of 97 yards of total Offense.....Outstanding!

Vic, again, was a man playing among boys....14 carries for 149 yards and 3 Tds. ...over 10 yards a carry.....

X must improve on special teams....

X's defense has only given up 97 total yards rushing in 3 games. :ylsuper:

In 3 games Vic Anderson has averaged 10.8 yards a carry and a TD every 4 carries...:ylsuper:

Outstanding!

As XCard and Xman85 mentioned above, the special teams play, which has always been a strength at X, had it's third straight poor outing. It's kind of hard to win a game by 58-13 and come away feeling concerned, but that's what happened last night.

We had one extra point missed and another blocked. A majority of the snaps seemed to be off target, but thankfully Passifume was able to snag most of them. Even on the successful extra point conversions, the defense poured through the line repeatedly and were within a hair's breath of blocking every kick.

In addition, one kickoff was returned for a touchdown, and only a last second tackle kept the following kickoff from going all the way also. Players were not staying in their lanes, over pursuing instead of breaking down properly ahead of the ball carrier, and arm tackling.

By saying this, I don't want to come off as Mr. Negative, because there were many positive attributes displayed last night:

Vic Anderson once again displayed unbelievable moves and acelleration. The last two games have really been astounding.

All three of the QB's who played last night (Wade, Zoeller, and Brutcher) looked very good throwing the ball.

Finch, Ash, and Simmons have looked very sharp as receivers.

The defense has far exceeded early season expectations considering the inexperience level. They are flat flying to the ball and laying some wood.

There will come a game or two this season, however, where the score is close and the weak special teams play will bite us in the rear. Hopefully this week a lot of time is spent on reviewing the film, identifying the causes for the problems, and defining and implementing appropriate corrective action steps before true disaster strikes. To be all that we can be, we need to get this facet of our game straightened out.

Is the St. Xavier kicking game an issue. I know that we both have had tremendous kicking games in the past, and I for one am suprised that a return came against X, especially because I feel their coverage is superior than most in the state.

Reason is: All but on of our kicks have gone in the endzone, we have only missed one kick (PAT or FG), and we are averaging over 47 yards per punt. Not to mention, that our returners seem to be quite dangerous this season. No prodding, just wondering, what is up with the special teams play at X this season? Is it top notch, like normal?
