  1. This won't change things for years to come, if at all. A media person told me the KHSAA has thought about 1 Thurs, 2 Fri and 1 Sat. They have known this could happen all along and U of L's schedule does dictate what takes place at "The Slice".
  2. I just looked at the KHSAA master schedule on their website and believe it or not, the next several years show three days for the football finals. It clearly shows 12/1-12/3 for 2006! I guess some of you will need to bring your favorite minister to Louisville! :thumb:
  3. This won't have any effect except for possible reqrouping of teams into different districts. A change in the "multiplier" wasn't discussed and must be approved by the board of control, etc. Anything else regarding the non-public vs public is years away from becoming a reality.
  4. Still looking for that football scoreboard! I had not heard the baseball field would be artificial as well. Soccer/Lacrosse practice field as well?
  5. I have e-mailed the KHSAA. We'll see what they say. I was hoping the U of L game versus UConn would be a Thursday game, thus ending the conflict. Apparently that is not the case. The only time the 4A was played at Commonwealth, back when all games were played at different stadiums, Trinity and Henderson County made it. The drive was hard on the Henderson faithful. Lexington didn't support the football game as Louisville has failed to support the Sweet Sixteen in the past.
  6. The conflict has come up with Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. I am surprised the KHSAA doesn't have a long term agreement in place for the "finals" weekend. Play one Friday and three on Sunday? Move to Dec 9? Move to a smaller venue with artificial turf? What do you feel the best solution would be?
  7. I have yet to see an artist's rendering showing a scoreboard at Page Stadium. I know defense wins championships, but a scoreboard is a nice perk. I hope St. X has plans to name the new turf field after Paul M Young. Appears field house is under the home stands. Home side concrete? Visitors aluminum? Very short left field down the line in the sketch on St. X website. Football is planning to practice full time on the new turf? Where will the Frosh go? Possibly where the current baseball diamond is? Or will that be paved for parking? Appears the seats behind home plate may be sold since this appears to be a fenced area with access via the football stadium only.
  8. I suppose Trinity can always refer to the Celtics or the Yankees! Or Ft. Thomas Highlands for that matter Makes it harder to come up with T-shirt designs too!
  9. Let's see if I have this right. Freedom Hall is used for the basketball game. Slugger field is the site of the baseball game. Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is home to the football game. It is true the Alumni make these events happen at these venues. Bitterness or hatred has been down played by both schools. I recall the first football game I saw between the two in 1974 many fights took place in the stands. Brass knuckles were used. Things have calmed down as far as violence. Many Alumni still verbalize their hatred for the other and the two are fortunate to be able to capitalize on this rivalry financially. If St. X doesn't feel the emotion of playing Trinity more so than playing anyone else, then shame on them. That could help "explain" some of what took place this past December. Their alumni who care generally do and always will want a defeat of the other regardless of what the event is!
  10. A bar after midnight and just before closing!!!!
  11. BR90, you are apparently not familiar with the mission of private high schools. Trinity offers 9 different levels of education. Trinity attempts to prepare the young men for life. The attendees come from 14 counties. Believe me, they are all not well to do financially. They are all not gifted in the classroom. They are presented the opportunity to succeed or fail. Some have learning disabilities. Most families make great financial sacrifices so their son(s) can attend. As far as not allowing their sons to play a sport for two years because they want or need a "different" learning experience is wrong. This is a civil liberties question that will be debated for years. Remember, this panel has already decided separation is wrong. They have agreed with the KHSAA Board of Control. That was their number once task. Anything else would be gravy. The local Catholic paper has an article that reflects there are much wider gaps between public and private "solutions". Don't expect any changes soon as an almost new Board of Education takes office in May! They will have a few other pressing issues to discuss like future financing of the entire system and why Kentucky lags behind.
  12. I have been told by the reporter covering this for the Courier Journal in Louisville that Jefferson County Public Schools and Archdiocese of Louisville schools would remain the same. The two systems are separate as far as "transfers" are concerned. Each Catholic grade school is considered to be a feeder school for all the Catholic schools in Jefferson County and the JCPS current system would be unchanged (open enrolment for the most part inside Jefferson County). Those living outside these systems(including out of state) and those who move between the two systems would be subject to the plan adopted. The public forces want the kids who change systems after 6th grade to be ineligible for two years for all sports at all levels(including frosh and JV) at the high school level. It wil be interesting to see what the retired judge suggests. Those who have a legitimate change of address from outside the system to inside the system would be subject to the rules already in place. Remember, all of this is still subject to final approval by the Kentucky Board of Education.
  13. Warren County started the separation process this year politicking all summer long. Yet, they are building another school. Warren Central was very good in the late 90s. Now, Greenwood takes some kids. The new school will take some more. Lexington has griped the whole time about LexCath. They have some of the larger schools in the state. The they had not opened Paul Dunbar, Tates Creek, Lafayette, Bryan Station and Henry Clay would have another 200 boys each because district boundaries would have been redrawn (or left alone). Jefferson County has way too many schools. back in the day, Southern had 2500 plus and was very competitive in football. Most metropolitan areas in the USA have much larger schools than Jefferson County. I am not convinced smaller is always better. Student-teacher ratio yes. Overall enrollment, no. Busing is another issue that helped kill booster support and most school "spirit" in general. You have to care about the place you are representing to get out and bust your tail year 'round for the football team. These changes in public policy are not the fault of the private schools.
  14. I simply don't see the KHSAA giving up the pay day. It would be a financial windfall for Trinity and St. X. Unless another Clark County type team rises up this year with 3 or 4 quality offensive backs and the linemen needed to protect them, then the Rocks should make it. St. Xavier will have a tougher time, especially in their district. I'd enjoy seeing LexCath and CovCath bumped up to 4A to increase the competition. As long as the public schools statewide insist on keeping enrollments hovering around a 1000 or less, then they cannot expect to win very many 4A football titles. It is a numbers game at that level. Ryle hurt the other Boone County schools. Lexington adding the new and improved Paul Dunbar years ago depleted the other schools somewhat. Oldham County High was just making some noise when South Oldham opened. Then North Oldham was created. Another new school is slated later this decade in Oldham. Warren County continues to build more schools, thus decreasing enrollments at the other schools in and around Bowling Green. My understanding is many school districts feel holding their enrollments down to 1000 per school is better for the students and teachers. You can't expect to win the 4A state football title very often as long as this practice takes place.
  15. I noticed his name on the roster this year and there were only 6 JV games, of which I saw three. The Rocks will be OK.
  16. Papa John's in December is always nice. :thumb: From the cushioned seats up high on home side. Manual Stadium, sidelines, you can get up high and see the whole field Old Cardinal Stadium from the end zone. Clark County...I like to battle the home team for seats. Paul Dunbar, very nice from both sides.
  17. Probably so, but I do remember he refused to talk to anyone after the game. No media, not a word. I hope he does win. He seems to lead a great life and is respectful of all those around him. I believe a Seahawks victory will mean a Super Bowl ring for broadcaster Steve Raible, Trinity's first NFL player!
  18. I forgot about Donovan's return. He was very unhappy at Jeff, chose to come back. That's his choice. He wishes he had never left Rock Heaven. He will help. Tim Phillips is not related to Vince. Hopefully pro $$$ won't lure Bobby Petrino away this season. Still four NFL jobs open. Difficult for Nick to walk in and start at another high school as a Senior.
  19. Look for Soph to be Kirksey and his fellow Soph Phillips to take on most of the load. Plethera of receivers should help free up the run. Key of course will be if Coach Petrino takes everybody with him if he moves.
  20. Per the Courier Journal reporter, if a "feeder system" already exists, it's not up for debate. The Archdiocese of Louisville school system is the feeder system for Catholic high schools and will not be compromised locally. Same goes for the Jefferson County Public Schools. They have a system, albeit, open enrollment county-wide, this will not be touched. The rules in place in your diocese will not be changed. Also, kids do not sit out freshman and JV sports. Only ineligible for varsity competition until their Junior year if they go from public to private, private to public or come from another system in another county or state
  21. Per AD, 480 were expected at $20.00 per head. It was held in the Grand Ball Room of the Galt House East Hotel. It was to begin at 12:30PM and ended just past 5:00PM. People were still there at 5:30PM when I decided to make my exit.
  22. If football is the main problem, then let's return to separating Jefferson County from the rest of the state as was done from 1959 to 1974. Throw in Fayette County and you have a AAAAA class with 20 or so teams. Throw in some of Northern Ky as well by enrollment and that would be a a minimum of 24 teams, or go to 28 with everyone making the playoffs. That leaves 47 teams per division for the other four levels. Make CovCath, LexCath and Highlands (they draw from a wide area...accepting students far and wide) also play in the Super division in this sport only. There is one area that is totally unfair. Basketball is stacked against Jefferson County. If everything is to be based on population, then Jefferson County should have 4 or 6 representatives, not only two. By the way, Trinity and St. X are both hovering around .500 in basketball. Girls basketball is unlike Boy's basketball. Again, separate the rural from the large population area teams. Of course this destroys the Sweet Sixteen. So, at what price do you all want to go for the so called level playing field? Any complaints about wrestling, baseball, tennis, soccer, swimming, golf and volleyball should be solved by adding classes as most states do. Trinity has never won a baseball crown. X has won twice in the past 40 years or so. Track and Cross Country have classes and apparently the complaints are not coming from these areas. Every sport has different teams that excel. Urban areas tend to have more success than rural, especially when all the teams are lumped together. Ask for more classes in more sports or cherry pick the sports with the most publicity? Destroy the tradition of the Sweet Sixteen or not?
  23. That makes my point as far as needing more classes in all sports, including basketball if you want to take it that far and bust up the Sweet Sixteen. As far as I am concerned, Louisville gets under represented based on population in the Sweet Sixteen. Jefferson County should get at least 4 teams of the 16. Another option is to choose to leave basketball alone. As far as the other sports including swimming, volleyball, baseball, softball, wrestling, golf...demand more classes from the KHSAA. I don't hear complaints about cross country or track. The answer is not expulsion of privates and the politics involved will keep that from happening at the higher levels in government. Have class A, AA, AAA, AAAA in all sports. Add a AAAAA in some sports. Agree to allow the KHSAA to up the ticket prices or increase their cut of the first round games on up to cover their increased expenses. Rotate sites except for basketball, cross country and football.
  24. The biggest equalizer in girls athletics would have been to ban off season play for AAU, "Club Teams", etc. Many colleges recruit during the summer months and watch these all-star teams more than they watch high school teams. Many girls would have chosen to play for their club team over their high school team. In Louisville, the better grade schoolers and high schoolers are playing sports non-stop year round. Most of those girls attend private schools. The better public school girls are invited but many drop out after they find out the cost involved in playing on travel type teams. A typical 8th grade AAU team in basketball may have 5 Sacred Heart, 3 Mercy and 2 Manual players. This is an instant advantage for the private school students and their teams. Similar teams exist for swimming, volleyball, soccer, and softball. The rural teams or teams with less affluent parents may not have the opportunity or the finances to participate in these "off-season" endeavors. Except for football, similar advantages are created for the private boys teams as well. Football is the one sport where "voluntary" workouts, 7 on 7 camps, etc. pave the way for success during the high school season.
  25. Rockmom, you must also test well at St.X to gain entrance. They do not have a 3 tier /9 level learning system that Trinity offers. I recently discussed this with a current Trinity family and St. X's loss was Trinity's gain as the couple has four sons, the oldest has a learning disability.
