I agree. I wish our school would start a wrestling program. I know several students that are interested and I don't think the start up costs are huge. Does anyone have any ideas on the cost of starting a team up?

In the championship game of the Baker Lady Bulldog Basketball Holliday Tournament in sunny Fort Meyers Florida, the Lady Owls defeated the Port Charolette Lady Pirates in a close game of 48-45. The Lady Pirates led most of the game, but the Lady Owls never gave up and came out with the title. Sophomore Mika Turner was named MVP of the tournament. Senior Kendra Combs and Junior Candi Combs was named to the all tournament team. Congratulations to the Lady Owls!!!!!

They must be celebrating, Professor. I haven't heard from them today. From what I have been hearing, the girls have been playing like their old selves during this tournament. They really needed this turn around since the All A is just around the corner.

I believe that the coaches over the last four years have left on their own. Coach Noble is a great person and is extremely knowledgeable about basketball and I believe he will build a great program at Owsley. The faithful knows that it takes time to build a strong program and also that over the last 5-6 years the changes have hurt the program. I know I believe in Coach Noble and the Owls and I'm not going to give up on them just yet!!!! The season has only been going on for 3 weeks, so it's to early to tell what this team will look like come tournament time - 8 weeks away!!!!!.

Owsley also has Brewer back from last year's team.

Owsley and Lee are always a favorite to see play in the 56th district because of the strong rivalry. Any thoughts or predictions? Mine - Owsley by 15.

Great win on the road Lady Owls!!!! As I said in an earlier thread, Payton Wright will be something to watch in a couple of years.

I was there and neither team played very well. Leslie is a very aggressive team and there were lots of rough play, in which the game could have easily gotten out of hand. Leslie has has alot of depth and is a good defensive team. Their players seemed pretty even, so it didn't seem to matter who was on the floor for the Eagles, so they kept playing aggressively and this defense hurt Owsley. One thing I can say for Owsley is they never gave up, kept fighting back, even though their field goal and free throw shooting was poor. It was said earlier, a win's a win. Congrats Owsley!!!!

I agree totally Professor. I have followed girls basketball at Owsley since it began in 1974 and I don't recall a girl that has as much natural ability and talent as this young girl. She only began last year as a 7th grader and her improvement is phenomenal in 1 year. If she continues to improve at this rate, she will be something to watch in a couple of years. (But she already is now). As Augger stated, she lacks confidence, but she is getting better, the more playing time she gets. As you said earlier, this year and the future looks bright for the Lady Owls. Looking down to the elementary school team, I don't see any lapse of talent for Owsley. :ylsuper: Go Lady Owls!!!

So sad to hear the news. Smokey's been around the 14th for as long as I can remember. Prayers go out to the family.

I think Owsley has made the right call in the coaching staff this year. (Not putting the former coach down, he left because of a shot at a job close to his home and young family. Coach Parrett was a class act, a super person!) Coach Noble and his staff have the team moving in the right direction. Number one, the change in the boys attitudes, including confidence, is a major improvement. Number two, there are 6-7 boys on the team that have played together since 5th grade. I think this is their year to shine. Because of the many coaching changes over the past 5 years, this team has suffered. But Coach Noble seems to have pulled the team back together. We will see a glimpse at Maroon/White Night on November 9 and the following weekend at the Panarama on November 17 at Owsley.

You're exactly right. I think they should go back to the original design and leave it at that. If they continue to increase the numbers, they will only be excluding a few schools and this will be like having another state tournament. If they do this, they might as well cancel it.

Owsley has this kind of event. They call it maroon/white night. It is coming up November 9th. It's a great event and it usually brings a huge crowd.

In the first round of the 14th region, Hazard defeated Powell. Hazard will play Letcher County Central in the semifinals tomorrow night at LCC beginning at 6:00pm. In the second round, Owsley defeated Knott County Central. Owsley will play Leslie in the semifinals also tomorrow night at LCC beginning at 7:30pm. The winners of tomorrow night will play at 9:00 also on Tuesday night for the title of 14th regional championship.

I was at a 14th region game this year and had a student beside me hollering. She was told, by the ref that this was breaking a rule of volleyball, to holler during a serve. He told her to be quiet or he would ask her to leave the gym. If this is a rule, I think it's stupid and needs to be changed. I also think changing sides, with inside volleyball is also stupid.

Powell won the district.

Not heard anything our way, but you never know.
