Proposal for more schools to participate in All A Classic

The linked (hopefully) article from the Kentucky Post indicates they may be expanding the All A Classic to more schools. Anyone with insight on the likelihood of this being approved? Also, can anybody point me to the high school numbers as to who would be included in the "smallest 125 school classification". Am I correct that generally would include the smallest 3 football classes? Perhaps not as I am not sure how many small nonfootball playing schools are around? Any thoughts?

Exclude the private schools.

Yes please add them that way it can be called the ALL 6-A Classic

Nothing was said when the tournament started about having 125 teams statewide. It was for the true Class A schools in Kentucky, which is why the original numbers corresponded with Class A football enrollment limitations, as well as those small schools that didn't have football.

It's starting to appear is if the All "A" is more worried about bringing in dollars than being a showcase for the state's small schools.

You nailed it.:thumb:

And...the name "All A" needs to be changed to something else, because the tournament has.

Its becoming the "All A's" Classic (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, etc.)

But they help to start the All A classic, so why should they get kicked out?

Nice post Old Guy. One guy that also played a huge role in starting this was Mike swauger at Bellevue. He and Stan were and probably are very tight and I know they coached against each other in the first All A Classic finals I believe in 1980. I still remember that game as a youngster, Sunday afternoon game, uh I think I was 9 or something like that. It was a battle.

But it has come a long way and when it gets this big....usually sponsoship takes over and it comes down to money.

Exclude the private schools.

You're exactly right. I think they should go back to the original design and leave it at that. If they continue to increase the numbers, they will only be excluding a few schools and this will be like having another state tournament. If they do this, they might as well cancel it.

What is the current #? Does it have anything to do with being in Class A?

From what I know, it mostly is comprised of what would be 1-A & 2-A football sized schools. However, with the influx of prep schools like Rose Hill & University Heights, plus the smaller Christian & Catholic schools the number of teams is probably around 70-75. Any more participants and it will lose its flavor because it is for the schools that rarely see a shot at Rupp.

It is a pretty good tourny overall and it doesn't need any more larger schools to make it an early state tourney.

I do think that the teams should have players from Kentucky playing and not W. Virginia, Ohio & others that come for Prep school b-ball. Just MHO.

It is currently for set up for schools that have 425 in the top 3 classes, This is different from the Football classes. For example Carroll County is in the all A basketball tourney but 2A in football.

I am not sure what the new proposal is but right now there are about 113 schools in it. I believe they want to change the way they count, and use all 4 grades to come up with a number, due to class sizes that vary from class to class.

You gotta be kidding! I guess the larger schools want a piece of the pie...and leave the private schools in there. Good small school competition and needs remain the same or even scale back the enrollment numbers to qualify.
