You gotta be kidding! I guess the larger schools want a piece of the pie...and leave the private schools in there. Good small school competition and needs remain the same or even scale back the enrollment numbers to qualify.

 

 

I think this is the most mis-understood discussion ever.. Changing the way they count will not necessarily let new schools in it. It is an attempt to not throw someone out one year only to have them back in the next due fluctuating class sizes in the top 3 grades. So what if they use all 4 grades and a new total number, the intent stays the same.

 

For example School A is 425 one year then 430 the next, guess what they are out..oh then the next year they are 421 due to the Fresh class from last year being smaller. What is the issue with using all 4 grades in High School for the total.

I have the utmost respect for Stan Steidel and the things he has done for NKY small school athletics but I think he and the powers that be need to cautious in that they turn this very nice small school tourney into something it wasn't intended to be. It's a wonderful tournament that doesn't need alot of tweaking just because we have a handful of schools who has seen their enrollment increase. If I'm not mistaken the vote was very close on this (7-6) in favor of expanding but where were the other 3 regional representatives and why didn't they get the chance to vote? Honestly I'm surprised it was even this close of a vote. I thought that when Stan spoke people tend to fall in line.

Regardless the All A is a great little tournament and it's my hope that we don't continue to make changes to it every few years to satisfy a few.

All four grades should be used for the total. The number shouldn't be too large though in an effort to get more teams.

I would also use all four grades and probably even decrease the maximum from the current levels. Instead of 425 in the upper 3 grades, I would prefer around 425 for grades 9-12.

That would eliminate about 20% of the schools that are in it now.

The linked (hopefully) article from the Kentucky Post indicates they may be expanding the All A Classic to more schools. Anyone with insight on the likelihood of this being approved? Also, can anybody point me to the high school numbers as to who would be included in the "smallest 125 school classification". Am I correct that generally would include the smallest 3 football classes? Perhaps not as I am not sure how many small nonfootball playing schools are around? Any thoughts?

 

Let's see, you need to first survive a regional tourney, and then win four games in four days at EKU to emerge as the best of 125 schools to win the All "A" State Championship; but only need to be the best of about 35 or so to win a football championship?? Tell me again which of these is harder to accomplish??

I don't think this is much of a stretch, as I believe there are routinely about 115-120 schools that qualify (119 last year I think I heard)??

The debate will probably come down to something between 550 and 650 in grades 9-12.

Private schools do not need to be excluded, or not all of them. Schools like Bishop Brossart and St. Patrick run like small schools. I have never heard of this two private schools recruit. They might for all I know, but I have never heard of them being question about that. I’m bringing that up because I guess that’s the only reason why someone would want the private schools out!! They have the same right to be there as any other small school!!
