That's really terrible that someone would have to set through a "dreaded" girls game, since Breathitt has such a horrible team!!! But, on the other hand, I thought Breathitt had a pretty good girls team, with one of the best girls coaches in the state, not to mention a pretty good ballplayer in her time.

Sounds like this was a great game to watch. Seems like alot of the games are coming down to the wire. You never know what will happen when it gets close to tournament time.

I don't know what you are saying about Title IX, but it doesn't have anything to do with the girls and boys playing on the same night. We have only had one game with our boys and girls team that was played on the same night, and that was only because a game was rescheduled and it was the only time the game could be made up. Title IX section that you are talking about is about prime time games. Our girls sometimes play on Fridays and Saturdays now instead of only Mondays and Thursdays, and likewise, our boys play on Mondays and Thursdays sometimes, instead of always on Tuesdays, Fridays or Saturdays. I think it is one of the best rulings that happened to girls basketball. I know it is for our team, the girls now have as many fans out as the boys and I feel it is because 1/3 of their games are now on the weekends.

Another good regional win for the Lady Owls. Keep up the good work, especially since it's getting ready for tourney time!!!!

You are correct. It won't be an easy game for either team, I suspect. But the Lady Owls are playing extremely well right now and I think they are ready for the Lady Pirates.

What two teams will represent the 53rd - Cordia, June Buchanan, Knott, and Letcher, 54th - Buckhorn, Hazard, Leslie and Perry, 55th - Breathitt, Jackson City, Wolfe and Riverside, and 56th - Estill, Lee, Owsley and Powell, districts and who will win each district?? My Predictions: 53rd KCC Letcher 54th Hazard PCC 55th Breathitt Wolfe 56th Estill Owsley The 56th district tournament schedule has already been set. Owsley County Jessica Murrell Kendra Combs Corina Thacker Mika Turner The 5th spot is rotated between: Candi Combs Sheri Gilbert Teri Gilbert The coach rotates between these three, according to the team they're playing. I think that is a pretty good strategy. Jessica Murrell is center and in January reached the 1000th point club; Kendra Combs, is power forward/guard and also reached the 1000th point club the same night Jessica Murrell did. (That never happened before in our school's history). Mika Turner is a guard and has improved her defense this year. Corina Thacker is probably the most overlooked player on this team for what she does. She is the "garbage girl": setting picks, making passes, putting back shots and rebounding. The other three: Candi Combs is a forward/center, but her defense is not played like a big girl. Sheri Gilbert, is a good point guard, but is out at this time for knee injuries. Hopefully she will be back for district. Her sister Teri, is another player that is sometimes overlooked. She can shoot the ball extremely well. ....And that is the Owsley team, from a #1 fan's perspective. :banana:

My Mistake: At the 14th Region Policy Board Meeting, the game dates were changed. The Girls Play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with the same teams, just a day earlier. Sorry about the confusion.

You're right!!! The way I posted it first, was what was voted on at the meeting, but they found out at the 14th region policy board meeting that they had to be changed. So the 56th District Boys teams play Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Sorry about the confusion and thanks Einstein for catching my mistake. :thumb:

On Monday, the 56th district held their meeting to set the dates and times for the tournament which is held this year at Owsley County. District play begins on Tuesday, February 28 and ends with the championship on Saturday, March 3. (The 56th district seeds) On Tuesday, #1 ranked Estill County takes on #4 ranked Lee County. On Thursday, #2 ranked Powell County takes on #3 ranked Owsley County. All games begin at 7:00pm. Good luck to all the 56th district teams. :ylsuper:
