  1. In my Eng. 102 class, I was given this question to expand on: Who was the prostitute that Jesus befriended? I had never been taught that Mary was a prostitute so I started researching that point. I was amazed at how many preachers/pastors had conflicting points on the matter. I wrote my papar in defense of Mary Magdelene and at least planted doubt that she was ever a prostitute. It was an interesting paper to research. I commented in the paper that even if she was a prostitute, Jesus befriended many people of what we deem as lowly character. I got an A on the paper, btw.
  2. Gooch, before leaving Cumberlands, make a phone call to your financial aid office and explain that due to unforeseen circumstances, you as an independent student may not be able to return in the fall. There is always more aid money available and they do not want to lose students. If they can help you, they will. I would also call the financial aid offices of other schools on this board and see what they have to offer you. The most important thing tho...is to finish school and get your degree, whether it be a public or a private university. Good Luck!
  3. My husband and I watch this show alot. He lived in Odessa, TX in the early 80's when the stadium was being built. He says the show is pretty true. The whole town shut down on Friday and the lights of the stadium lit up the surrounding desert.
  4. This was also the game my group played.
  5. I have a fear of large dogs. I was attacked by a german shepherd when I was 15, and although my brothers and I always had dogs growing up, my fear of large dogs still persists. My dog is a small house dog...a yorkie poo. And I am severely allergic to cats.
  6. I agree with you Ram. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. And that is what the Lady Rams have had to do during V'hoof's injuries the past few years. The others have had to step up their games and if there is a silver lining in the midst of injury, this has been it for the Lady Rams.
  7. Once a player has requested a waiver Bylaw 6, his request is denied, and his appeal is denied, what are his options? Can the player return to his previous school and be eligible to play, or is he ineligible for the next year regardless?
  8. This is great, Birdsfan. Wishing her all the luck she needs from Eastern KY!
  9. I completely agree. Whose rights are being violated here? Suppose a local resident who is a medical professional decides to accept an better offer for employment in Lexington? No layoffs, no job loss; just the opportunity to climb the ladder of success. He/she accepts the offer, sells the local home, buys a new home in the Lexington area, and bases that location/school district decision on what best suits his/her children. Eligible or ineligible? What good parent wouldn't consider the many schools in that area and choose the one that is the best fit for their child before purchasing a home? I agree rules have to be followed, but exactly where does one draw the line on how much influence the KHSAA has on where one can choose to live?
  10. Thanks for the update, OR. Better safe than sorry on those staples, but I know she is uncomfortable. If she needs to take a ride, I'll be glad to come this evening and chauffer her around. Maybe we can catch a movie if she feels up to it. Just call. You have my cell number.
  11. Congrats to Lawrence Co, although I expected GC to win. Both teams represented this region well. Good luck to LC in the next game.
  12. My father passed away five years ago this June 26th. I miss him terribly. My children are getting their dad a gift card to the local Harley Davidson Shop. I have no idea the cost on chrome for his handlebar levers but that is what he has looked at the last few times were in Harley shops.
  13. Lawrence Co. 4 - 0 bottom of the 5th...
  14. Fantastic News! As I said in pm, please don't hesitate to call if you need anything at all!
  15. That is the beauty of message boards. We all debate, agree or disagree, and move on. If we all see it the same way everytime, we'd only need a news report for clarification.
  16. I absolutely love Norris Lake. It has to be heaven on earth...
  17. Fantastic news, OR! God IS good, isn't He? We will continue to pray for a speedy recovery. If you need anything at all, I am a mere 10 minutes away!
  18. I must retract my first impression of the video. I shared the video with the authorities of the household, (two softball players and one baseball player.) They all concur that the pitch did not hit the batter's helmet because of his reaction. He holds his hand out to signal the runner to stay on third, instead of advancing toward first base as he would had he been hit by the pitch.
  19. I am checking out the youtube video right now. IMO the pitch hits the helmet of the batter, hits the ump in the arm, and then hits the catcher in the back. I feel the catcher was merely reacting to the sound of the ball hitting the batter's helmet and ducking to protect himself. I don't think this was premeditated at all. Just mho.
  20. I can attest that Mrs. OR is definitely an angel in our midst. When my mother was in and out of the hospital over a period of years, there were days that I just didn't think I could face it anymore. I'd be walking down the hall, praying to God for strength and courage, and in no more than a few seconds, Mrs. OR would be there with a beautiful smile and her arms stretched out to give me a big hug! God allowed our paths to cross at precisely the moment I needed it most, over and over again. I've shared that story with both OR and Mrs. OR, they both are wonderful people! Still praying for you guys!
  21. On a side note, after I've completed my shopping and head to the checkouts, I hate having to wait in line. Now, I don't mean just 2 or 3 people in front of me, I mean 5 or 6 and more registers closed than open. It makes me want to leave my full grocery basket and walk out. Why aren't more lines open when so many customers are waiting to pay? I remember years ago, the walmart in Ashland had a sign that said something regarding no more than a 3 minute wait. I wish they still had that policy.
