I was very impressed with Kayla Parsley. She has truly improved over the past couple of years. This game was not the normal intensity you see between Raceland and Russell. Both teams played like they were sleepy. Raceland didn't play like they did against Rowan County. That's a little troubling to me. Congrats to Russell on the win. Russell vs. Ashland tonight should be a great game.

I also remember when East Carter first opened, their colors were red and sky blue, not the red and navy they sport today.

As I understand it, when Raceland High School formed it first football team, they bought Ironton's used uniforms, thus adopting the colors orange and black. They also didn't have a field to play on, hence "Ramblers" became their mascot name, which was shortened later when the football field was ready. I remember also as a freshman cheerleader, the color white being introduced as a primary color. Uniforms were orange and white, no black. I didn't like this at the time, but I've grown used to it. Since then, orange, black and white have been the norm. When my brothers all played football, I remember my dear mother wishing the pants were black. They have used orange or black pants in recent years.

agreed, IF. The girls in the 16th Region have been playing very physical ball for the last 3 years that I know of. I can't count the number of bruises, busted lips, or knots on the head my girls came home with over the last 4 years. That is part of the game, imo. My dad would have been so proud!

no stats, but it was a great game. Very close 25-24 at the half. Very physical game and much more close than the final score shows. The Lady Vikings got a lot more than they bargained for in Raceland tonight. I believe the Lady Rams are showing just starting to gel with the return of the injured Brooke Keeton. When Jesse Clark returns after the new year, the Lady Rams will only continue to improve. Go Lady Rams!

Yes, I was a bit concerned about a concussion, but West's trainer seemed to think everything was ok. (and it was.) Raceland's Coach Sexton promised Katelynd milkshake for that charge. I think Sexton still owes her. LOL

Two years ago, I saw a Raceland Lady Ram take a true charge from highly respected West Carter's Brandi Rayburn. Katelynd Porter had her feet firmly planted and took the charge, hit her head on the floor, injury time out, trainer aid, and helped off the court. She sat out the 3rd quarter, but returned to finish the game in the 4th. She said it was her honor to take a charge from such a great player! To this day, if we see Brandi out, she always comes over to speak to us. I think Brandi gained respect for Katelynd that same day since she didn't move when Brandi was coming toward her.

Most kids on academic scholarships must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to keep those scholarships for upcoming years. If keeping said scholarships will make a difference in whether or not that kid stays at college, then it makes sense to concentrate on studies. In other words, no academic scholarships means no college which equates to no sports at the end of the day anyway. Kudos to Kayla for keeping her education her top priority. With that said, congrats to each of the 16th Region girls doing so well at the college level. The 16th Region is certainly very proud! I would love to travel to Nashville to see Seals play!

Hearing good news about Jessie. She didn't tear her ACL after all. She has a Grade 2 sprain and starts physical therapy next week. She could return as early as 2 - 3 weeks, but the important thing is that she comes back fully healed in order avoid further injury. Good luck Jessie, in your recovery. We all love you!
