  1. Wonderful post, LN! Very well thought out and written. My Mama always told me that "silence is agreement." To sit there and not say anything implies agreement. He should have left the church. MLK would have with no doubt. Would Obama have followed?
  2. Congrats to Coach Floyd! and to Coach Baker and all the players that made the team!
  3. Best wishes to the Eutons! My own children go to college in Lexington and if either of us lost our jobs, we would also move that direction. In fact, it is still a possibility. It is tough for any 16 year old to change schools, much less one that is a stand out like Dakota. Good luck Eutons!
  4. I am not sure how I feel about Obama. I personally feel that the parties are not putting any standout candidates out there to be elected. Can some expand on how America can elect someone president that won't participate in pledging the flag? I am open to any thoughts that may share insight on this.
  5. Mine too bellaumni40. I put a heating pad on mine...works everytime!
  6. Good question, LBBC. I'm not a coach, but I heard one coach say a few seasons ago that it didn't matter if there was a 2 man crew or a 3 man crew. I said I felt a 3 man crew covered the game better. The coach said it sometimes just gives the crew as a whole some breathing room, and thus they miss some calls the 2 man crew would have caught because they had to be "more on their toes."
  7. Wow, sounds like this was a great game! I must say I am surprised at how close this was. Great season for the Kittens! Congrats and Good Luck at Diddle, Lady Vikings!
  8. Division III schools, such as Transy, do not give athletic scholarships. Their tuition, including room and board are $30,000. They do give wonderful academic scholarships, but a certain GPA must be maintained in order to keep those scholarships year to year. Occasionally, the student athlete will get an endowment of a few thousand dollars. While mine received offers to play both softball and basketball, once they dedicated time to their studies, there wasn't a lot of time left for sports. They both chose to forego sports for their freshmen year, and are now considering walking on for their sophomore years. They needed time to adjust to college life, to learn time-management skills, and to squeeze in 25+ hours of practice a week, not including travel time. They both have work-studies and work 10 hours per week for spending money. When they were making the decision to forego sports for their freshmen year, it simply came down to money. If they didn't maintain the GPA requirement to keep their academic scholarships, we didn't have to worry about sports because there would be no Transy at all. We certainly didn't have another 10G's each to cover the added costs if they lost their academic scholarships. We are more than satisfied with the school and the girls love attending there. I told them life is about choices and sometimes the choice is a very difficult one. They both love sporst so much. I was proud of their decision, but it took many phone conversations and many, many tears to make this decision. Welcome to LIFE 101...
  9. It should be a great game. Rowan by 7 in a very physical game.
  10. Over the past few years, Raceland has been to Cocoa Expo, Disney World of Sports, and last year to the Myrtle Beach tournament. I personally liked the Disney trip best, but I was very surprised how much we liked the Myrtle Beach trip. Ofcourse we had excellent weather, but that time of year in Myrtle Beach, good weather is no guarantee. Cocoa Expo was my least favorite, but I hear a new softball complex will be used. It was actually built in Titusville, a few miles north of Cocoa.
  11. I heard on the radio today that his tickets for this show sold out in 30 minutes.
  12. Ofcourse I have to take my Lady Rams over Ashland and Rowan County over Morgan. If Ashland wins and plays Rowan, Rowan will win by 12+. I don't think it will be a close game.
  13. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Samantha Sparks is a clutch performer. She has proven that many times over in the last 5 years. I personally have enjoyed watching her play. Good luck Sam, in the upcoming softball season and also as you begin your college career.
  14. Wow, the score indicates a very tough defensive game.
  15. Boyd takes the lead at 2-0. Rowan County passes them and never looks back. Congrats Rowan on the win.
  16. Congrats to Morgan Co. GoRadio reported that all three winners so far the champions of their districts. If Rowan wins, it'll make all four.
  17. I can't say enough for Trimble and Co. He took over a good foundation from Sexton and continued to build on it and has turned it into a school record setting team. Good luck Lady Rams and stay injury-free for the rest of this season.
  18. Thanks HHS. I was definitely misinformed. I'll tell you tho, that makes me feel better.
  19. That thought crossed my mind last night, GR. Besides, not many girls make it to the region every year, so getting to play at MSU in the 'big gym' is a big deal to some. Also it is a neutral court and gives no team a home advantage.
  20. Ugly, Ugly game. There was much confusion on a few different occassions during the game last night, for both teams, I felt. As for the officiating, I thought the first game's crew was much better. During both games, however, the players kept sliding all over the floor. Many, many walks went without being called. That alone could have changed the outcome of the game. Also, I didn't think the officials let the girls play ball. I am not sure of the total fouls, but during the Raceland game, it seemed the whistle was blowing like crazy. I know both teams were in the bonus in both halves of the game. As for the venue, GoRadio, I can't ever remember disagreeing with you, but I have to this time. It was nostalgic of sorts, and that I liked but I heard many comments about how dark it was. My girls had driven up from Transy and asked if that is where the MSU teams played when I went there. I answered, "Not quite." LOL I will be glad to be back at Johnson on for the next game. I understand from a tournament director that MSU didn't know until last Thursday that their boys would be playing at Johnson on Monday and Tuesday. Stephenson and crew did a good job pulling everything together at the 13th hour.
  21. From The Daily Independent: “Raceland is a well-coached team and their post players had good games,’’ said Russell coach Merle Kidwell. “There’s no shame in losing to Raceland anymore. They have had a good run of girls.’’ http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_059234558.html There has been no shame in "losing to Raceland" in the past several years. They have made showings in the Regionals for at least the last 6 years that I can remember, perhaps longer. Those same teams have set school records, had top players and had very successful seasons.
  22. Or perhaps hoping it can be brushed under a rug...
