Being from Knoxville, Central has a ton of replacing to do. The head coach almost "graduated" with his senior class last season. From what I understand the players had to talk him into coming back. With that being said, Central typically reloads and I expect they will be a good team again this year. I know Middlesboro is experienced and has decent speed, but will they have enough to compete with Central's overall team speed. Central always seems to step up with the fastest players in the KFL. Remeber also, Central plays Maryville in district play and its always a dogfight. Not sure who will win, but fans should have a great treat in this one!

As much as I would like to see Coach Black have a successful debut at Whitley, I think Bell has a few too many weapons. I have to agree with this asessment.

TR is back at Bell.

Bell was very impressive, really good team speed. Williamsburg was outmanned as was to be expected. Williamsburg appeared to play this pretty close to the vest and it appeared they only ran a base defense and were very vanilla on offense running what looked like 1 to 2 formations and only 6 or 7 plays. Frazier had a couple of nice runs from the QB spot, Root blocked very well out of the FB spot and was steady at linebacker, Hamlin had a couple of catches and possibly the surprise of the night were freshmen Alex Patrick (long TD catch) and Dusty Brown. I look for this team, in spite of the scrimmage results to surprise some folks this year. Also Bell will do very well with the open attack they showed. To me, Number 2 for Bell was the most impressive player on the field.

Williamsburg scrimmaged Wayne County last week and from what I heard Aaron Root did quite well at the fullback position. Ran hard behind his pads and caught the ball well out of the backfield also. I was told he had over 150 yards total offense and held on to the ball well.

Thunder, thanks for your kind words about the Root kid. We have followed him awhile and really have enjoyed watching him develop not only into a fine football player but a wonderful young man!

Williamsburg returns Chase Hamblin at punter and place kicker. I have heard he is really booming his punts this year with good hang time. Also heard he is fairly accurate up to about 35 to 40 yards on placements.

Williamsburg's Aaron Root. Already proven at linebacker (SEKC LB of the Year in 05), but should be a very pleasant surprise for the Jackets at Fullback. Also, look for Tyler Rollins to have a big year at DE.

Maybe I'm wrong, but to me it seems this is a problem for adults (the move to 6 classes). I think a state title is a state title, and in no way will that be diminished in a young persons mind. I asked a relative who plays HS ball in Ky. about this and he gave a very enthusiastic reply to winning a state title. Having been a part of coaching staffs that have won state championships, and seeing the look on the faces of the kids reaping this reward, I can't see any youngster feeling a state championship being de-valued.

There is no equity when a school has the enrollment of boys to dress 65 kids and be single a and the opponent can dress only 20 . I love this plan for the small schools!

I whole heartedly agree. As a Coach I have been fortunate to be on staffs that have won state HS championships, and conference championships in college. Yes I remember those wins, but what really defines sucess for me is running in to a kid I have coached that 10 years later has a good job, a young family, and says coach you really had an impact on my life, thank you for taking the time to help me grow. That feeling is ten times more rewarding and humbling than any ring or trophy I have.

Look for Thomas Frazier to put up some big numbers for Williamsburg this fall. He's about 6'1", 220 lbs. and throws one of the nicest deep balls you'll see.

A couple of darkhorses for you....Williamsburg could surprise, nice senior class led by Frazier, Hamlin, and Root, and Cumberland could be a nice team as well.

We root for Williamsburg here, but being from Knoxville we follow the KFL teams here. Also, will be pulling for Whitley since Jim Black is the head guy there.

Root started at guard as a freshman due to numbers and was honarable mention all district. The past 2 seasons he anchored the line at center and was arguably the best blocker on the team and one of the best in the district. Pretty sure he did not give up a sack last year. Williamsburg asks different things out of the fullback position. Root may get 8 to 10 carries a game, and catch 2 to 4 passes a game. The key for him will be blitz pick up, which is where Bryant struggled so badly last year. He is a downhill runner and gets behind his pads well. 40 time is 4.7 to4.8 range, decent but not a burner. Pretty sure holding on to the ball won't be an issue as he has played the position before in middle school and has been well coached on ball security his whole life..lol (his dad is a coach). If he gains 600+ yards rushing this year, and catches 30 or so passes, Williamsburg will do well.

Mountain Mutt, I agree with you, this kid flat out plays ball. I have heard a number of NAIA, D2, and D3 schools have shown interest. I do know he worked out at Murray State earlier this summer and heard he did well. He also, from my understanding, is getting some interest in baseball as he's a pretty doggone good catcher as well. Heard he would love to go to Carson-Newman as thats where his dad played, but that might be a big stretch. Anyway, I sure hope this kid gets a shot, he'll make some coach really happy with his intensity, mindset, heart, and work ethic.

Hopefully Whitley's kids will learn to catch the ball and will make it to the playoffs. I heard Williamsburg looked pretty sharp at UK passing camp. Heard Frazier had made progress in his reads and really showed a nice touch as well as his arm strength. Chase Hamlin performed up to expectations as one of the top recievers in the state. There was one injury at receiver, Steven Jefferies pulled a Hamstring, haven't heard how serious, hope its not because those I talked with said he was making tremendous strides. It may have been a blessing in disguise as some of the younger kids got opportunities and showed they too could make plays. It appears that defensively alot is going to rest on the linebacker trio of Jusino, Root, and Will Moses. I heard Root was outstanding with 5 or 6 picks during the 7 on 7 scrimmages, and caught numerous passes out of the fullback position. Jusino struggled the fist couple of scrimmages but had a huge pick against Boyle County and seemed to improve with each scrimmage. Moses is pretty quick and could really help the defense in the fall. Williamsburg also took their lineman to UK and from what I heard Tyler Rollins was very impressive. He could be a great one for the 'Burg. Elias Abner also perfomed pretty well from what I've been told. All in all I think the line will be pretty good this fall. One last thing, I talked with some of the kids and they were very enthused about Jerry Herron as Head coach. He seems to be growing rapidly in that position from all reports.

How is Whitley adjusting to Jim Black's new system? When he went to Whitley Ithought it would take a year or so for the kids to adjust to a drastically different style. That being said, if Whitley continues in the current district they are now in, Coach Black's system could be a great equalizer for the Colonels, it sure was at Williamsburg. Hate to hear that injuries are a problem as we are big fans of coach Black and wish him every success.

Due to relatives I have involved in the Williamsburg program, I follow the Yellowjackets. I hear that for them to be successful this year they are counting on Thomas Frazier at QB, Chase Hamlin at Receiver, and Aaron Root at FB and LB. I have heard a few other names from other Southeast Ky schools, like Cashen at Corbin, Earls at Middlesboro, Slusher at Bell, and Rosskopf at Lynn Camp. Who are some players that will have to come up big at the Laurel County schools, and Whitley, Mcreary, Knox Central, or any others I've failed to mention in this area? I don't know about you folks but lets tee it up and kick it off...dying for the season to get here!

Chase Hamlin at Williamsburg led the state in class A in receptions last year as a junior. He is bigger, stronger and faster and should do great things in the Jackets pass happy offense this year as a senior.
