We have all seen it in the past with our teams...the offense or defense scores a momentum changing touchdown and then the kicker misses the extra point to give the other team "OLE MO" back...or a punter shanking one that goes five yards. With that being said...how is your teams kickers and punters for the upcoming years...as a good special teams can win several games and a bad kicking game will lose you even more.

 

Mayfield got hit hard by graduation last year, but the one constant this year will be the kicking game with Aaron Williams back as the Cards punter who averaged over 45 yards per punt last year and with place kicker Tommy McNutt booming the ball into the end zone on kickoffs and virtually automatic on PAT's and FG's inside of 50-yards the Cards will be able to count on the kicking game to give them a distinct advantage until the younger players get their wings underneath them.

Middlesboro had a lot of trouble last year kicking extra points and IMO it cost us a couple of games ,Finally toward the end of the season we just started going for the two point conversion.

 

Punting we are so so (not great but not bad either).

 

I don't see 2006 being any different.

Raceland's young kicker is looking very good. With the right coaching this kid could be the real deal.

Trinity returns Ryan Tydlacka to handle the punting duties. He might also do the kicking but Zlatan Petrovic is also a very good kicker so he might challenge Ryan for that role. All in all I'd say the Rocks are good shape in the kicking game.

Williamsburg returns Chase Hamblin at punter and place kicker. I have heard he is really booming his punts this year with good hang time. Also heard he is fairly accurate up to about 35 to 40 yards on placements.

Cory Gilbert of Ludlow can kick a ball all the way to Covington.....Unfortunately he was facing towards Bromley...

Once again, CCH has a very strong combo in K Shane Popham and P/QB Josh Bleser.

 

Unfortunately for Shane, he has had to wait his turn behind Awadalla and Roch. He's very good. I haven't watched him kick yet this year but last year, he was a legit threat from 45 to 47 yards and in.

 

Bleser simply booms the ball. I still say his punt at Beechwood his SOPH year is one of the best I have seen in a long time. He also boomed a bunch that year against HHS (unfortunately, he had lots of chances).

Ryne Wilfong of Newport made the Coaches All Star 2nd Team last year for punting. I believe he averaged around 40-45 yards per punt. I'm assuming he'll take over the place kicking which was Atkins job last season.

John Wright Polk will be doing most of the kicking and punting this year for the Jumpers. He has a great leg and pretty good accuracy to boot.

I heard McNutt of Mayfield won the main contest at a collegiate kicking camp this summer, booming a field goal of some 54 yards!

He is going to be a great weapon this year for the Cards...and to just think that he is only a Junior this season...he could be a legitimate DI kicker if he keeps progressing the way he has the past two seasons...plus pinning the other teams back and making them start on their own 20 with his kickoffs. I wonder what the most points ever by a Mayfield kicker is...McNutt will have to be close to breaking it or not shattering it by the time he graduates in 2008!:ylsuper:

Belfry has a pretty good kicker hsi nick name is Hoss and I cant think of his real name as we speak. He is improved from what I hear though and he done a very good job last year. Our pinter graduated so Im not for sure about punting duties but Im sure theyw ill have someone to step up and do the job.

Mitchell Jett should be Dixie's K'er this year again !:ylsuper: Only a Jr. this year , Jett has a very strong leg ! Not sure if he's doing the punting this year or not ?

I had forgotten about these two kids, it will be nice to have a good kicking game once again. It really made a difference back when Adam Ivey was kicking those balls out of the field, lol.

Has he added any distance since last year? He was a decent kicker last year.
