That is exactly what is going on. They go to passing camp at UK in a week or so.

Saw a bit of Williamsburg's workouts last night. Looked pretty sharp. They had 30 or so kids out (good numbers for them) and looked to be fairly athletic. Was really impressed with the enthusiasm and tempo of practice! Coach Herron seems to have these guys excited!

Wow, Williamsburg gets it right on the first try! Coach Herron will do a great job. He is enthusiastic, energetic, and bright. Look for minimal changes in the offense, you'll find Jerry is a gunslinger! The coaching staff looks to remain intact, Hatcher will take on more defensive responsibility, and I would surmise Woods will coach QB's and DB's. Coach Root will stay on staff I'm sure as he has a son Aaron, who will be a senior, and from what I understand is getting quite a bit of interest from NAIA, D2 and 3 schools, and will be a stud once again this year on "D". All in all, Jerry's youth will not be a hinderance, and I think you may even see a bit more hard nosed Jacket team this fall.

In all my years as a player and a coach (going on a total of 40 years now) I honestly believe I learned more life lessons from those times I got my face kicked in. I remember those signifigant big wins (state championships in HS, Conference and playoffs in College) but havent forgot a single one where I got my fanny royally kicked and my feelings hurt. What a dumb rule, hope I never ever have to deal with it.

Add Williamsburg to your list as it seems to be certain Jim Black will be the man at Whitley County.

Naw, not his agent...lol. Just have a relative that has played the past three years for him and the kid loves him dearly. He will be heartbroken over this for sure. But what a difference coach Black has been in his life.

In last year's game against Harlan, Williamburg's Aaron Root was in on 32 tackles, 24 solo, 8 assists. Heck of a game for a linebacker!

If Jim goes to Whitley, they are indeed fortunate to get him. The man has my undying respect. He may not have been the first choice, but he is the right choice. Too bad folks had blinders on when he interviewed previously and were deceived by the great lie. As far as the Jackets are concerned, although Woods would be a good choice, I'm not sure he could or would take it. For the little its worth, I would love to see the job offered to Jerry Herron. He is bright, energetic, the kids love and respect him, and continuity would occur (which if Black does leave would be imperative). I hope administration at Williamsburg would see this and make a good, no even more, the right choice! To coach Black, if you go, God speed, best of luck, and thanks for the great memories. You sir are a gentleman, a great leader and molder of young men, and although sad to see you go, happy for you and your family and only the best to you.

After all the leaks that occured with Gentry's hiring and subsequent leaving, one would think that Lonnie would be playing his cards closer to the vest than having info like this floating around again. How ceratin is this information? And if true who will be Williamsburg's new coach?

If Jim Black were to leave, I would pray administration at the burg would, for continuity's sake look at Herron or Woods. A new offense was installed in the spring and lets face it, Williamsburg does not have the numbers to play a power running game, but can compete well in their district with the passing game, as has been proven in the past. Maybe its false hope on my part but, if I was Williamsburg I would find a way to keep Black.

Loyalty to family is fine, but I was raised in a situation where a man's word is his bond, contracts were meant to be fulfilled, and a handshake sealed the deal. I'm not niave, but geesh, how can you promise and not fulfill? I have had the opporunity in life to have left commitments for greener pastures, but when I have given my word, someone else had to mow those pastures

We follow the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets here. Jim Black looks to be poised to bring the Jackets back to playoff contention after a re-building year in '05. Senior Quarterback Thomas Frazier has a major league arm and in the new offense could put up huge numbers. Chase Hamlin,(District Reciever of the year, SEKC Reciever of the year), who led class A in receiving last year returns with expectations of another big year. Williamsburg had difficulties last year with having only one real threat at reciever (Hamlin), but some changes in personnel on offense in the spring showed the potential for some others to become theats. Aaron Root (SEKC Linebacker of the year, 1st Team All District) moves from center, where though undersized (5'9", 185 lbs.) he led the Jacket line, to full back where he showed excellent hands out of the backfield, as well as a nice burst of speed and a nasty attitude when the ball was in his hands. Will Moses, a rising junior, is cat quick, and showed much improvement in catching the ball. A bevy of young, fast receivers also demonstrated potential in the spring. Look for nice things out of Aaron Brock, Dusty Brown, Daniel Pettit, and Alex Patrick. The O-Line will be anchored by vetean AJ Jusino (2nd team district and SEKC). Elias Abner should step up at center, and Soph. Tyler Rollins(Honorable mention all district as a freshman), has the potential to be a beast. Where I look to see the Jackets really improve is on the defensive side of the ball. The defense will be led by Aaron Root who is a tremendous natural linebacker. He had 164 tackles in 8 games before a knee injury last year and was voted SEKC linebacker of the year. His knee is now healthy and the kid has been a beast in the weight room. He has doubled as catcher on the baseball team showing no signs of knee trouble. AJ Jusino, whether with his hand down, or possibly at linebacker is a big play guy with outstanding quickness. Hamlin will be at a DB slot and has good ball hawing abilities. I expect to see Black put 11 on this side of the ball who can flat out run. Lynn Camp and Somerset should be picked to be frontrunners in the district, but don't be surprised to see Williamsburg in the thick of things at the end. The Jackets have both at home this year. Overall, look for an exciting year from Jim Black's charges at Williamsburg.

Clevenger took an offensive coordinators position at another high school (think I heard Lincoln County), Brown is a good young coach but I don't think he's ever been a coordinator.

I would agree with Al, however, having worked with Teague and seeing the way kids respond to him it wouldn't be bad. I'm not sure Bear Bryant would have done too much better at Adair...no tradition, not great numbers, and mediocrity the norm.

Mountain Thunder, to put it succinctly, the situation at Whitley is that someone is a fibber...lol...maybe we'll know something firm soon. Or maybe we'll no something later. Or maybe I've gotten to the point of who knows, who cares...lol

Mountain thunder, as always you are direct and to the point. I always appreciate your posts, and 99 times out of 100 agree. Yes, lets get this settled so the kids (who really are the important people in this whole matter) can get settled and plan on the upcoming season. Whitley may have a few seniors with college aspirations, and believe me, from my own life experience as a player and coach, nothing helps a kid get on to college ball like a head coach's reccomendation.

This is unconfirmed, however late last night I heard (grapevine only so I can't take it to the bank, but since this is such a hot topic I'll post) that there may be re-consideration on the head coaches part. If we get the opportunity to dig a bit today we'll let you all know. Beginning to wonder if this isn't becoming a soap opera or a new reality series made for t.v.....lol!

Since you know it all, I would expect you would understand sarcasm and humour, obviously this was over your head. As far as what I know, when you get things directly from the horse's mouth its usually reliable. I do not post on hearsay and never have, and as my pappy used to say its better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are ignorant, than to open it and reveal your ignorance. Hence I only post what I firmly believe and usually know to be true.

The word is there will be an official announcement after May 16....Hmmm isn't May 16 election day?
