Williamsburg Football Coach

Featured Replies

Word on the street is that the Head Coaching Position at Williamsburg has been offered to Jerry" Flounder " Herron. Herron was a star lineman at WHS in the late 80's for Coach Robert T. Rose and later went on to play at Tennessee Tech. If the rumors prove to be true, good luck to Coach Herron.

What type of coaching background does he have? Will Williamsburg stay with the same offense they have now?

He has been an assistsant at Williamsburg for a couple of years and he coached elementary football in the county for 3 or 4 years. I think he is probably 33 or 34 years old.

He is a good young coach but I think he is probably 3 or 4 years away from having enough experience for most of the Big Orange Fans to feel comfortable with him as the head coach. I guess he may end up getting on the job training. He is a hard worker and he has the kind of personality that will make him popular with the kids and parents.

I would think that Coach Campbell from Whitley or maybe Coach Root from Cumberland College would have been the top choices from the area based on their age and experience.

There should be little change in the offense, Darrell Woods has always had control of the offense and will continue to do so. Jerry is a good guy and the kids will respond well to him. IMO you will notice very little difference in Jacket football.

Wow, Williamsburg gets it right on the first try! Coach Herron will do a great job. He is enthusiastic, energetic, and bright. Look for minimal changes in the offense, you'll find Jerry is a gunslinger! The coaching staff looks to remain intact, Hatcher will take on more defensive responsibility, and I would surmise Woods will coach QB's and DB's. Coach Root will stay on staff I'm sure as he has a son Aaron, who will be a senior, and from what I understand is getting quite a bit of interest from NAIA, D2 and 3 schools, and will be a stud once again this year on "D". All in all, Jerry's youth will not be a hinderance, and I think you may even see a bit more hard nosed Jacket team this fall.

Is their a possibility he could ask Coach Rose to come back and be an assistant, there are alot of former players that were very fond of him.

And maybe Corbin can get Cotton Adams back as an asst. :thumb:

I think there is an opening for an assistant Coach at Corbin high school for the upcoming season. Not sure which one is not coming back or if they are just adding another position. Coach Adams would certainly be a nice addition if he choose to apply.

Saw a bit of Williamsburg's workouts last night. Looked pretty sharp. They had 30 or so kids out (good numbers for them) and looked to be fairly athletic. Was really impressed with the enthusiasm and tempo of practice! Coach Herron seems to have these guys excited!

I wasn't aware that football teams could practice right now.

It is my understanding that they can get ready for passing camps and things like that, they may also work in the weight room.

That is exactly what is going on. They go to passing camp at UK in a week or so.

Are there any local passing scrimmages in the willamsburg area?

Don't quote me on this but I think Williamsburg has one this week, maybe with Clay?
