Population Numbers And Class Splits

Featured Replies

This was a topic in another thread, and I thought it was interesting enough for its own. Here are the KY population numbers and a break down from 1970-(projected)2008 and the population per state football title...

1970 population 3,218,706

3 Titles

1,072,902 people per title

1975 population (projected between 1970-1980 census) 3,388,228

4 titles

847,057 people per title

1980- 3,557,750

4 titles

889,427 per title

2000 4,041,769

4

1,010,442 per title

2008 (projected using same growth as 1990-2000) 4,355,411

6

725,901 per title

Does this change anything in some peoples minds???

Most of the credit goes to BuddyBW. I just filled in a few holes... ;)

That should give something for some people to thin about. Very interesting.

Immediately this becomes 14% more watered down than the move to 4 classes in '75. In 2007 there will be 1,075,000 per title, while in '08 there will be 847,047 per title. That is an immediate watering down of 21%. Draw your own conclusions...

And we went from 1,016,408 per in 1974 to 847,057 in 1975. At best your argument supports 5 classes over 6. It does do a great job of showing what a split at almost the exact same number did for football in the mid 70s and should do for the future of KY football...

For the record, 5 classes would equal 871,082 per title in 08. That's as identical as it can get, and these numbers make me like the split more...

And what would be the split in other states?

Figure it out. That wasn't my thought process...

More ammunition for the "watered-down" argument ...

How? This is the same population number that split in 1975. A case for 5 over 6? Sure. A case that no new class(es) are needed? Hardly...

No, it isn't. The "population per title" is down approximately 15 percent.

By any standard, six classes is the definition of watered-down.

Only if the state stops growing. It looks to be far from that based on these numbers...

Actually, the number of football-playing schools is a more relevant barometer of how many classes are needed. At the moment, I don't have a way to determine what the numbers were 30 years ago.

I don't think I can make it any clearer than I did in post #5. It immediatly waters down the field by 21% and waters it down 14% more than the previous expansion in 1975. If you can't understand that, I can't make it any more simple for you.
